No the beginning of metal was deviating from the norm into more dangerous territory tone wise. Nu metal was where they started screaming really loud to communicate the majority of their anger rather than writing their feelings like intelligent people do. I didn't even get into music until 2010 so by that point I can study these eras with a clean mindset and I say it gets obnoxious in the late 80's with the advent of death metal and into the 90's it got even worse with nu metal and bands like pantera

Ghost Bath never was real DSBM, more like a Silencer/post rock fusion and Moonlover isn't even vaguely DSBM. Since about 95% of the people who will come out to Ghost Bath shows today got into them because of Moonlover, probably at most a third of the remaining 5% will be girls (if your scene is anything like mine) and out of those, at most half will be single.
This means we're already down to less than one percent of the audience. I don't know where your cutoff for qt is but at a metal show, it can't be more than top 20% of that .9%. So unless Ghost Bath sells way more tickets that I'd think they would, chances are there wont even be one single DSBM qt at the show.

I've never listened to much death metal before (Insomnium, Arsis, and Dark Tranquillity were closest I ever came, so melodeath, basically) but have been listening to it a bit lately, and liked it more than I expected.
I really liked Shadows of Past by Sentenced, and North From Here was also good. Also listened to a handful of Bolt Thrower albums, which were good. I liked Honour, Valour, Pride the most. Right now I'm just using the "Similar Artists" thing on metal-archives to find bands similar to those two. Listening to Transcend the Rubicon by Benediction right now, which is OK.
I don't know jackshit about death metal, so with that in mind, anything you guys would recommend?
