Thinking about picking up one of these soon.

Any experiences?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sXPSo2Eymes

>>66137204
they are a lot of fun

Reverends are built so fucking well, the one I have is built better and plays better than my Gretsch and Gibson.
>>
>Ibanez RG321, Big Muff, Boss DS-2
Im looking for an upgrade to play some stoner/classic rock.
I was thinking about Tokai LC-85, what else should i look into in about 400-600euro price range?
>>
>>66137432
dope

They look it. I was even creaming my pants over the railhammer pickups that come installed. They look great and sound great from what I can hear.
>>
>>66137204
I've tried a 26.5" 7 string schecter and boy that B string felt great. Completely responsive and articulate. I really like the idea of the bass contour knob.

I just picked up a used american deluxe jazz bass (pic related) for 1100 euros.
Almost no signs of usage, plays well, sounds great.

Did I get screwed over?
>>
>>66137774
You can get a new one for 1800 I think, so you saved 700 for the inconvenience of not being able to pick the colour and whatnot. Seems okay to me, but I wouldn't buy a fender at that price honestly.
>>
>>66137865
Not that much of a fender fan?
>>
>>66137765
Most of them sound like ass, if your amp has distortion in its preamp, then you can try sticking an OD/Boost to get a better response from it.
The only one I'm considering is the HM-2, there's also some rather high end pedals that seem nice but I don't see the point in spending 200$ on a pedal.

>>66137774
that's a rather fair price
>>
>>66137889
In europe you simply get better instruments at the same price point, Fenders are fine, but they still have the same problems and design flaws that they had 50 years ago because they refuse to change the design. Just my opinion obviously, but I really prefer better bridge designs and more ergonomic necks.
>>
>>66137985
I see your point. I just have a personal sort of obsession for them, if you like.
What to do you personally play?

>>66138135
I have a sandberg, maruszczyk are also amazing, or you check with local luthiers/builders. I get the whole image thing, a Fender is a status symbol and most of our favourite musicians have played them in the past, but I kinda got over that and just look at them as what they are, a slab of wood with some electronics inside. And if I can get a nicer slab of wood with nicer electronics from a different manufacturer then I'll pick that. Obviously if a Fender sounds and feels perfect to you then there's no need to buy something else, but I always encourage people to try out different brands and builders.
>>
>>66138214
I've played a few sandbergs in the past, they're great as well. Regarding local luthiers, I really, really want to get a lafey at some point, unfortunately they're a bit out of my price range.
Ever played mayones basses? Heard great things, never got to play them

Yeah, I see.
Just a lot of stuff worth getting and a lot more I want out there.
I mainly play double bass thought so its not really worth spending lots on electric basses, though its tempting.
>>

Ah, I see. It's the other way around for me, I just want several really nice electric basses and then I have an EUB if the need arises or if I feel like playing upright (not exactly the same thing but good enough).

No, I do have a day job but I'm basically busy the rest of the time with practice and rehearsals and gigs. It brings in a bit of money but it's not too big of a deal. I bought an NS NXT 5-string EUB, and I have to say I'm pretty happy with it now that I switched to their classic strings. The sound comes very close to an amplified upright bass from my experience.
>>
>>66138974
No, I meant the neckthrough in the middle, it sorta looks like one of the early musicians

>>
>>66139308
Speaker size isn't related to power.
Recording bass through a mic'd 8" amp when you could just go in DI and tweak a little bit is stupid.
>>
>>66139213
Yeah, they're basically the same thing as the CR models (which cost twice as much), both are made in the czech republic by the same people, the NXT just uses cheaper tuners (swap them out for hipshots if you want), doesn't have an onboard pre-amp (who cares honestly), comes with a mediocre stand and apparently the ebony of the fingerboard isn't quite as nice quality-wise (although it looks fantastic IMO). Those are all really minor things that are either cosmetic or can be fixed/upgraded for maybe another 200 bucks, I'd strongly recommend the NXT line if anyone is looking for an electrical classical instrument, they're amazing especially at that price.
>>
>>66139308
I know that micing up bass amps is a thing, I'm just a player not an engineer, but I'm pretty sure that speaker size influences the tone severely.

Also, why not just go direct
>>
>>66139063
Then maybe I've just had bad luck with the ones I've tried, but they never quite came close to what I wanted. But its a valid thing if its just something on the side, and I'm sort of envious of how much less you have to carry

>>
>>66139376
Not only that but knowing Ned Steinberger's behind the whole company gives some sense of trust.
Too bad I won't be able to drop 1,5k on an EUB until probably a decade. I still have too much stuff to buy.
>>
>>66137774

>>66137985
to each his own. i'm more of a fender amp fan myself. there are loads of great bass manufactures out there and if you don't like one you can always custom build one. fender and other big name brands is just a nice starting point always like gaming on a console like an xbox or playstation as opposed to a pc. i also like their accountability, if i ever got a problem i known fender is there to help.
>>

>>66139669
pc is better if you got the money and knowhow to build it

xbox, playstation, gibson, fender and etc give you an overall product easy for the consumer to get and is flexible for anyone. if i want something specifically tailor for yourself then you would have to go out your way to get it. look at billy sheehan he did his own rerouting of pickups to different amps until yahama gave him a signature model.
>>
>>66139798
but a fender's going to be as easy and flexible as any other obscure brand, and you are going to get more money out of your purchase in the second case
>>
>>66139647
It's a tc electronics ditto looper.
>Is it any good?
I personally quite like it, it just plain works. Working with multiple layers on such a small thing surprisingly works quite intuitively.
The only thing bothering me is that you can't save loops over the USB-port.
If you just want to mess around, its perfect

With dual coils and a tune-o-matic bridge
and the
>Descent HC
http://www.reverendguitars.com/instrument/descent-hc-baritone/
with single coils and a Wilkinson WVS50 IIK vibe

I've never played vibe before, but I don't necessarily think it's too late to learn.

I like the humbuckers on the RA better, and the tune-o-matic seems like a better option intonation-wise (especially when considering that it's a baritone). But no vibe to mess with.

What should I do /gg/?

Can someone explain to me why necks with extended ranges have longer scale lengths?

On the left is a 6 string 25.5 and on the right is a 10 string 31-27.5
>>
>>66140696
Because normally extended range tunes lower. Longer scale helps to get better tension on lower tuned strings.
>>
>>66140482
notice how pretty much all of these are off of epiphones not gibsons
>>
>>66140825
Because people will actually pay to get Gibsons fixed.
>>
>>66140696
>>66140785
It's not that much about tension, you can get some nice tension on a Les Paul tuned to B, you just need some really thick strings. Frequency's inversely related to scale lenght, without touching tension and changing string, a longer scale equals to a lower frequency.
Tension and String gauge (or rather linear mass, as different strings won't have the same linear mass even for equal gauge) both affect the instrument's tone, strings too thick or not enough tension may result in muddy tones.
Also extended range on a bass usually goes higher, not lower; except in the rare case of an added low F#. This would be something along 23Hz, which takes too much power to run and needs a really long scale, which is why pretty much nobody does it.

How does a person with bad social anxiety join a band? Played in one back in highschool with a group of friends but that was 6 years ago
>>
>>66141114
I have done nothing but exercices for three days

>>66141324
Roundwound or flatwounds ? It doesn't matter much for the latter, but for roundwounds if you want the bright tone that cuts through the mix, you need to change them rather often, depending on how much you play.
>>
>>66141113
And even on bass some people prefer 35'' or 36'' scale length once you have a low B just so you can have better tension on the B string, on a normal set (40-100) you'd usually need a 135 string to have the same tension as the other strings, but a 135 is pretty damn muddy.
>>
>>66141324
You only have to worry about that when you are actually recording or playing for other people, and even then it comes down to what sounds best to you. Depends on strings and the guitar.
>>
>>66141453
Wish I knew, man. I tried to join a cover band off craigslist and they were really nice but I had an actual panic attack while playing. Forgot all the songs and choked like crazy. It's a lot harder to play when you can't feel your hands.

I guess alcohol in moderation can help until you can get to know them. I had to drive to the thing so I dunno. I don't normally drink.
>>
>>66141114
>Martin

Should have bought a Taylor mate
>>
>>66141491
It always bothered me how unequal the tension on bass is. I can somewhat tolerate it on guitar, the biggest difference's about 3lbs (from A to B) on my string set, but I think it's even worse on bass.
There's not even much choice for fanned fret basses either, I think there's just the Ibanez SRFF805/6 and probably some rondos
>>
>>66141807
Correct, which is why I'm buying my own string sets from single strings. See: http://stringtensionpro.com/

With daddario round wounds I'm at 40, 55, 75, 100 and 135, but I'm thinking about using a lighter B string because it's just so muddy and boomy. Normal string sets for bass are retarded in terms of tension.

I don't know what people generally do, but they aren't very adjustable. I'd want to change it, but I don't know how practical it'd be to do. It also might not matter to you. I guess you should look up what string gauge will give you decent intonation with it.
>>

Well, I see him muting it with his left hand, obviously it isn't a problem, only odd. Just kind of unusual that he doesn't move his thumb down or add his third finger when he plays the D string.

Those peavies sound better than good. I always preferred them to the jazz chorus(most of them anyway, particularly the bass models), so I feel pretty lucky that it was the JCs that ultimately caught on.

my cheap cable broke so im getting a new one.
im looking to not spent a lot of money but i still want something that doesnt fuck up my signal or breaks easiely. its just for playing at home. doesnt need to be long.

one option would be the the "Fender Custom Shop Angle Cable TW" for 13€. in the reviews i read nobody said the soundquality was bad or anything but idk how the resistance with those things is, i know there are cordial cables which are marked as "low resistance" so they might actually be better? idk. i heared ppl say they tend to curl up though and the plugs can re a bit loose.

then there are cordial cables like the "Cordial CSI 3 PP-Gold" for 18€. its low resistance which is good for sound. i heared its not very flexible but i think i can live with that. what i dont really get is where the differences between some cables are. for example the "Cordial CSI 3 PR-175" costs 21€ but i dont see where its different. i dont understand their naming convension. does anyone have any recommendations or experiences?

Learn your fretboard, inversions, chord construction and some basic structuration and you'll be better than most average guitar players. Music theory is a life saver when it comes to being stuck on songwriting. I believed the "guitar players dont need theory" meme till I joined a band. It kinda depends on who you are playing with aswell. You want to be on their level or even better since as a guitar player when writing songs the main melody and stuff will have to come from you.

I'm looking for my first gigging amp, stuck between this and a Marshall Dsl 40. The orange, I'd pair with a used 212 cab, the Marshall is a combo.

The Orange sounds really good on demos and seems to have plenty of versatility, plus it looks really really cool. The Marshall also sounds great and has tubes in it but it only comes in a 112 configuration.

I am leanning towards Orange because of the cool factor, and because I can get Marshall tones easily out a distortion pedal.

What are your thoughts, /mu/?
I am going to be playing noise rock/punk/grunge through these. Which should I go for?

>>
>>66153582
Not really, If you really want to see how good someone is at playing give them a good acoustic and see what they do with it. Too many people only play heavily distorted electric and are quite shit at playing in reality
>>
>>66153489
The Marshall is ridiculously better.
>>
>>66153637
Look, frankly it's going to be hard to make hookups to non-standard jacks. The orange amp clearly has 1/4" or smaller jacks, judging by the picture. That kind of seems like too much hassle for such an expensive amp.

What about the option of getting Marshall tones out of a pedal, namely an MXR Super Badass? Shouldn't that cover both bases nicely?

>>
>>66153671
I just think that high end is a misnomer when in comes to acoustic. You can get a $100 acoustic playing like a $∞ guitar with not a ton of work. There's diminishing returns when it comes to sound, too. Believe it or not, an acoustic can be too thin. Great sounding guitars strike a balance for the best sound. The construction costs are not very different between a high end guitar and a cheap one.

There's a target demographic when it comes to cheap guitars, students, that makes guitar makers choose thicker woods that have less resonance and high end. But just choosing thinner woods doesn't add much cost.
>>
>>66153764
also, shared eq on the marshall is a bit of a concern
>>
>>66148671

>>
>>66153764
Marshall makes a solid state head too, for a lot cheaper. You might want to consider that.
>>
>>66153254
Not that anon, but I wouldn't ever buy a Taylor. I'm not dropping that kind of money on an acoustic with a bolt on neck and scarf jointed headstock. I don't care for the slim neck profile either. I know some people swear by them, and they do sound good but no thanks. I'll stick with my Advanced Jumbo reissue.

I've heard they're pretty crappy.

Haven't played one, but I've heard that if turned up they sound really thin, as opposed to the Orange cr120 which supposedly reacts more like a tube amp.
>>
>>66144088
Very cool if you like humbuckers. The humbuckers on these are particularly good imo, they have a pretty clean sound and the switching system is cool
>>
>>66153841
> with a bolt on neck
This is the only thing I don't understand about not liking taylor. Now I'm a cheap guy I'll never end up with a fancy acoustic, but if I was in the market, the bolt on neck would be a huge selling point for me. The ability to shim the neck if needed would hopefully extend the life of the guitar quite a bit, as it could compensate for bridge lift.

That said, a trapeze would prevent the bridge lift in the first place.
>>
>>66153872
I've played one and it's pretty versatile. Switching system can be a bit confusing at first, especially if you are already familiar with traditional jaguar-jazzmaster switching.
Sounds pretty good though, and can get both good classic fendery tones and high gain ones

>>
>>66153866
Well, at least it has a real clean channel. I mean, to me it has tube character on the crunch channel, but the orange having a clean channel with breakup just seems stupid. The orange is concentrated on emulating tube features like this just so it seems more familiar to guitarists, but it neuters itself here by reducing the available headroom drastically.

The Marshall's strategy is to just have a dirty channel you can dial in that breakup on. Both are doing the same thing, the orange just makes it seem more like a tube amp.

Honestly the orange just reintroduces the problems of a real tube amp completely unnecessarily. They could have easily made the gain volume-independent.

The marshall does have a power amp simulation in terms of how the power amp interacts with the speakers, but it's separate from the clipping circuit.
>>
>>66144088
Only fender that might be considered worth the money
>>
>>66153764
You'll get better results out of boosting the DSL. That MXR into the orange just won't be as good.

>>66153775
It's not really a problem on DSLs due to the tonestack. No you can't dial both in perfectly, but when one is the other will sound fine. It's not a Mark III.

I'd get an original DSL50 head (not the one they make now) and run that into a cabinet.
>>
>>66154017
As long as the clean channel is touch responsive, meaning i can punch my way to a breakup tone, I don't care too much about the existence or absence of tubes
>>
>>66153489
DSL40C can be plugged to cab. a way better option.

Well, my opinion is also based on the fact that I fix guitars and amps for a living. The most time consuming part of any neck reset is setting the new angle. It only takes me a little longer to steam off a neck than it does to unbolt a Taylor. Also, if your construction is intended to make it easier to compensate for the bridge bellying up, what does that say about the overall quality? They expect it to belly up because it's not particularly well made? That's just my opinion.

>trapeze
kek
>>
>>66154151
No, I mean, the Marshall has that, it's just not called the clean channel. In addition to having that feature, it has a clean channel that has nearly endless headroom, and no distortion circuit at all. This is really, really useful.
>>
>>66154159
All acoustics belly up eventually.

>>
>>66154113
Aren't the previous dsl models prone to overheating? I live in a very hot climate so it's important.

>>66154178
I am pretty sure the crunch channel is not footswitchable, so you can't go from crystal clear clean, an ideal pedal platform, to slightly overdriven crunch, but only to lead 1 or 2
>>
>>66154195
Not necessarily. It can be avoided/minimized with proper truss rod adjustment. On a guitar with a bowed neck, the headstock is in a different position relative to the top. It pulls up on the bridge. I've played guitars from the 1930s that have no belly at all.

those Little Mark bass heads are a wonder to play through
>>
>>66154573
The reason I'm hesitant towards the Marshall is because of tube amp maintenance and the fact that it's a combo, which means:

a) it's harder to carry to a gig (i'm really skinny)
b) it doesn't look as cool (less important factor, obviously)

So the Orange head seems like a good choice, especially if I can get some more marshally tones out of it like Dave Simpson does. (Check his "how many tones you can get out of one amp", it's amazing)

They sound good to me. Definitely worth it if you can find them used for around$400-$500. For $800 I would just buy a used 15 series though. D15, 000-15 etc..

Why limit yourself to those two then when you've got Fender, Vox, Laney, Egnater, Randall, Hiwatt, Blackstar, Jet City, Peavey, (Bugera), Bogner, Palmer and DV Mark?

You should give it a pick guard and have that bulky midi thing sort of like in the pick guard, so it's like poking out just enough for you to press the little button but isn't as bulky and doesn't stick out as much and looks cool as shit

I just bought one a few days ago. Custom X Series X-000CE and I couldn't be happier with it. If you have a guitar center near you it's on sale for $600 from the usual $750 but that's assuming they have one in stock for you.

Well, what do you recommend for a giggable rig for less than 800 euros, prefferably head and cab?

I like british sounding amps such as Marshalls, Blackstars, Laneys, Oranges etc.

I've heard good things about the Blackstar ht-40, similarly priced to the Marshall, but the sole tone control for the clean channel worries me, mostly because I like using pedals, so I need to be able to fine tune a clean tone.

The Egnater Tweaker also seems like an amazing deal, and I'd get the 40 watt head they make, but unfortunately there are a lot of complaints on their reliability. Same thing for the Bugeras.

What's your recommendation, anon?

They are shockingly good sounding considering what they're made of.
>laminate veneer lumber neck
>body literally made of formica
>mfw

Are there any Deans worth a shit?

Not that anon, but I've had to replace several shitty chinese transformers in Egnater amps. They'll send you the replacement trans for free if you're the original owner, but it's the same chinese junk
