why does pearl jam suck so much?
They don't suck, they just influenced at lot of shit that sucked.

First album was god tier and was copied by every band for the next 10 years.
They then made pure shit for next 30 years.
2nd and 3rd albums r good tho

Grunge is a scene, not a sound. The Smashing Pumpkins don't sound like actual grunge bands, "grunge", or post-"grunge", anyway.

The Pumpkins did kinda ride the grunge wave, though. Lots of songs off of Gish and Siamese Dream are pretty grungy-sounding.
