onna order a warmoth neck to transfer my tele's scale length to 24.5.Should I change the neck to mahogany with rosewood fretboard or should continue using maple neck?

is the epiphone les paul standard a good beginner guitar?

they are not suitable for people with little strength on left hands, and their bridge are pretty hard to adjust to get comfortable setup for a beginner

It's not horrible but it ain't great as far as guitars in that range go.

is walnut neck a meme?what fretboard material is good for walnut neck?
>>
>>66094163
Everyone I know who purchased an epiphones les Paul as a beginner ended up quitting guitar altogether only a few years in.

I don't know if it says something about the kind of people who buy them, or the guitar itself.

I would stray away from LPs though, find them extremely uncomfortable to play. There's the awful body shape which just doesnt sit right, the weird short scale, the tuneomatic bridge and etc.

Also, where does a mustang fit in all of this?

Currently writing a rock opera because reasons.

Just picked up pic related a few hours ago. Had a bunch of gear stolen years ago and then hit a patch of poorfag for a while. Finally being able to afford somewhat decent gear again is so nice.
>>
Thoughts on the fender modern player line? The tele looks nice
>>
>>66094517
if you can find used and it plays well and you like it, buy it. if the place you buy it from has good return policy and you're willing to pay return shipping back, buy it online.

I wouldn't buy one used unless I could try it out though. For me, they sit somewhere between a Squier and a MIM Fender. Finish and build quality is probably flashier than a MIM or Squier, but not necessarily better.

And I think a Classic Vibe tele is miles better than a Modern Player, if only for the tonerider pups which are killer and the vintage feel.

you are.
when you're playing clean or with just a bit of fuzz the strat has these beautiful vibrant tones with that top end sparkle a mememaster and a jag doesnt quite have. especially for lead types of sounds. though when you play more of a rythm guitar for certain styles the memeaster an jag might fit a tad bit better. atleast when we're talking grunge. for shoegaze it kind of depends which kind you're going for and for post rock lead tones the strat is really fucking good. my favourite post/math rock band has a memeaster ryythm and strat lead and that is a really good mix imo. but you also often see tele lead and some humbucker type as rythm when it comes to math rock atleast. i'd think of the strat more as a lead type guitar unless its the only guitar, while the memes fit better in the mix as rythm guitar with someone else playing lead..

>when you're playing clean or with just a bit of fuzz the strat has these beautiful vibrant tones with that top end sparkle a mememaster and a jag doesnt quite have

I always thought quite the opposite. To me a Jag and Jazzmaster sound more harmonically complex while a strat sounds tinny. well, not really tinny, but I feel like the strat is a blank slate. in other words, tone is reliant on the dynamics of the player more than anything.
>>
>>66094743
Good idea, let's all put on tripcodes too, credibility is important. After all, it's who says it that matters, not what is said.

Of course clyps are good in general though.
>>
>>66094866
I thought this when I started guitar. After a lot of fooling around with pickups and pickup configurations I realized that flat strat tone is the middle+neck position. The other positions are actually pretty good, or at least they aren't that generic sound.

The position 2 is really popular. It's actually really useful for its flatness sometimes.

The fact that they're playing guitar is the only good part about it.
Who knows, music might save an otherwise normal marriage where the two slowly come to resent each other and/or have kids.
Take up a morphine addiction instead, shit's relatively safe, easier and safer to get than heroin, and actually makes you feel good after it's emptied your pockets.
Don't do marriage kids, it's an uninspiring blackhole that leads to repressed depression, anger and boredom. As soon as you say your vows you might as well shoot yourself in the head, it'll make the rest of your life a lot easier.

It's not as hard as you think. You just scuff the surface (don't take the finish down to the wood) and you basically have a perfectly smooth surface to apply a new color.

You could practice refinishing something else to get the hang of it.

Hey /gg/

Don't know if you can help me, but i've been playing guitar for like 9 years, and after only playing on western guitars and e-guitars for that long, while initially having started out on a classical guitar, i really, really want to buy one (a classical guitar).

Only problem is that i don't any respectable good classical guitar brands. I heard Cordoba is good, but they mainly make Flamenco guitars, which i guess could work but i'm worried about too bright sound and string buzzing.

Any other brands i should be looking at?

I have both of the Classic Vibe 60's bass' that Squier put out, which I run through an old Fender amp. They are incredible instruments.
>>
>>66102847
Very P-Bass like, warm and thumpy sounding. Plus I'm running flatwounds on there which make the most of that kind of sound.

Nah, they make a little bit of everything. If you want a warmer guitar get one with a Cedar Top and Rosewood sides. The Cordoba C10 is what you want, that's as good as you're going to get without going into small builder territory.

Don't worry so much about brands with classical guitars. Most "good" classical guitars will be made by luthiers or small company. The quality with those is on a case by case basis, best to just try them out in person.

Almost. I've had a Jaguar from that range and it was made very well indeed, especially the frets, it had some minor imperfections in the finish, which was mainly the finish had sunk into some tiny pits where the wood wasn't properly filled. Other than that, it was flawless.

They are very capable pickups for what they are.

I swapped the neck pickup for a Fender 65, and it made a whole world of difference. It sounds like a genuine vintage Jag with so much definition.

I kept the treble pickup stock as it performs so well with overdrive. You can get tones reminiscent of Jack White when he used his Valco Airline in the white stripes, very nice indeed.

Guys I can't get past my noobishness. I'm playing a song where I need to play a Dm chord after an E chord. How do you stop the two low strings from playing after the E chord? It makes my Dm chord sound like shit.

>>
>>66104983
there are several different methods. either mute them with your first finger when you lift it up after the e chord, mute with your strumming hand or, the best option in your scenario: use your thumb. most of the time this will be your best bet and you'll only need to use the other techniques for really advanced stuff when you cant use your thumb.
>>
>>66104685
Surprisingly Ampeg-y for a solid state amp, if you like that SVT kind of sound then go for it. Otherwise if you're after something a bit more neutral then you might be better with the Fender. The cabs are both SVT-15s. Oh, and you're right on the 250!

I was using a Deluxe Reverb for a long time but I have since changed to using a Champ and a Blackstar now.

Also, unsure what you mean by classic vintage tone? What kind of players do you like to listen to? I use my P-Bass >>66102847 for playing Mowtown and R&B like a lot of the black American players, which is why I use flat wound strings and have a foam mute under the strings.

>>66105310
I love the scale length, it's really down to personal preference. I use regular .10 gauge strings, set hardtail with a buzzstop and it feels very sturdy. Although it doesn't resonate a lot now, so that's something to bear in mind.

Opinions on Breedlove? I just ordered pic related. I've been researching the brand before I committed to the purchase but in the end that guitar just felt so fucking perfect in my hands I couldn't say no. I played just about every $1000 guitar in the store and I just kept coming back to this little bitch, I love the bright sound and it's like it was made for me. Like "this is my guitar". Sounds Cheesey but no other guitar that Ive played has fit me the way this one did.

pickups are just magnets. Sure there are better pickups than epi pickups but chances are you have a shitty amp anyways and upgrading pickups would be a disappointment (i did this as a kid) it sounds stupid but try messing with the pickup height, pickup height makes a big difference

also Epi's and gibsons typically have "alnico" magnet PAF humbuckers and that 'muddiness' is what blueslawyers on mylespaul forums call 'warmth'

i honestly prefer ceramic buckers if you want to sound clean and bright. but if you're playing through a practice amp upgrading pickups is the stupidest thing you could do with your money

chances are your guitar would play like a motherfucker if you took it in to someone good for a setup or just learned how to do it yourself on the internet

srsly epiphone les pauls are legit guitars, don't give up on that thing so easily

I'll take it

>>
I'm looking for a fun practice amp...

Roland Micro Cube GX or Vox VT20X?
>>
>>66106482
yes the amp you're using is probably equally if not more important but that doesnt change the fact that the pickups are the most important thing to a guitar sound. people argue about tonewood, rosewood vs maple necks etc, but those differences are really really small compared to what the pickups make up. they are the most money efficient way of making a shitty sounding guitar sound ok.
and the playabillity, well, i don't doubt that you can set them up proberly but still les pauls in general are not that comfortable to play. and mine in particular had incredible high action and i couldnt really change too much about it.

>>
>>66106732

i agree w you on wood not making a difference. I agree that LP's are uncomfortable compared to fenders

but I strongly disagree on changing pickups if your amp sucks. The pickups would have to be SHIT TIER or broken to be the reason a guitar sounds like shit. I know Epi pickups because I've owned a few and played dozens, and they are not shit tier. Most upgrades are literally just louder. higher output pickups will not make a guitar sound better through a solid state practice amp

I guarantee you a (properly set up) Epi LP sounds better through a Fender Twin than a Gibson Les Paul with Bareknuckles through a Line 6

guys i'm thinking of popping in new pick ups in my Squier Jaguar bass

it's got both P and J style pick ups

for my P styled pick up i'm thinking of getting Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder or fender custom shop 62 p bass pickups

and for my J pickup, i want to do something crazy... would it be possible to put Single Coil P Bass Stack on the j slot??
i loved the pick up on Dusty Hill's Signature Precision Bass and i read that it had custom designed Seymour Duncan pickup so tried to find something similar and found this
http://customshop.seymourduncan.com/51-p-bass-stack/

Does anyone know of any good harmonica/holder combos in amazon?
>>
>>66107107
Just to weigh in on this...

Humbuckers are built very similar to each other. There's so little that one machine wound pickup can vary from another machine wound pickup it's hilarious. Assuming the pickups are alnico like the other anon says(I didn't think most of them were, though), I would guess the difference between those pickups and other pickups would be the pole piece material, the pickup covers, and the magnet gauss.

I think the pole piece material is likely to be similar enough, just because of how affordable the material is. Pickup covers could have some weirdness going on but it's hard for me to think that thicker, more ferrous covers are cheaper, and that's what would create muddiness.

There's huge variety among pickups, but a lot less among PAF alnico 5 machine wound humbuckers. I don't know what epi pickups are normally wound to but if they are wound very hot that definitely doesn't help.

I just think strings so thin on a short scale will give really poor tone, especially with low action where the attack of each note is killed by buzz. Having such little dynamic range would make playing rhythm horrible.

I don't think people ought to play thick strings for any sort of manliness or toughness or whatever. The tone should be a priority, thick strings aren't always better. But there's a limit to how floppy and low one can get without sounding bad and you have clearly surpassed it.

>>66108642
it's extremely easy. all you need is a ruler that can measure in mm or 32nds or 64s, and an allen wrench if you're setting up a fender style bridge, the allen wrenches come with the guitar. the only thing is to make sure the ruler starts measuring directly at the edge, if it's a cheapo ruler there's probably going to be a space between the edge and the 0, so it's going to be useless for measuring string height. i bought a string action gauge from stewmac, it's only $20.

you put the ruler on the 12th fret (or 15th fret if you want to go by fender's guidelines) and measure the space between the top of the fret and the bottom of the string (NOT the top of the string). how high or low you want it depends on how you like it. there's more to it than this, but this is just a general overview. you may need under string radius gauges if you want to set the strings up a certain way, but that is a specific setup.

If you're living in your van you want a sturdy, cheap guitar, not an expensive one. It will get banged up. I used to live in my van for a year after college, traveling. I'm a person who babies my gear, but in a van it's just not possible.

In other words buy a yamaha

I'm implying you sound like a 16-year-old faggot

Good point didnt think about that.

>should get the regular stomp box, the deluxe or the DI
if you want preset tones the go with deluxe but really save the cash an go with the regular pedal

haven't used the di box

Not really, I did buy the 250 after seeing his demo though as I was in the market for an OD.

I have a Squier Affinity Strat I bought off a friend because I want to play, in time i'd like to actually change the pickups and especially the tuners. Is it worth buying fender gear for it since it's a cheap guitar to begin with?
Also what amp/pedals would be good for emo
>>
>>66110528
no reason to spend that much
>>
>>66110622
You'd be better just selling it and using the money you were going to put into it to buy a better Squier (VM/CV).

What kind of bands do you like?
>>
>>66110622
If you are serious, please don't buy new tuners. It just isn't needed. Your tuning problems will come from the nut, bridge/trem setup.
>>
>>66110665
I know but think of the e-cred

Just received this bad boy <3
>>
>>66110622
you shouldn't be worrying that much about the sound if you're just starting to play, and it's not worth buying new parts for an affinity strat
>>
>>66110622

changing tuners is kinda a meme. the machine heads on even cheap strats will hold your strings in tune. the reason guitars, especially guitars with trems, go out of tune is 99 pct of the time because the strings are getting caught in the nut or under string tree

graphite dust/pencil shavings in nut under string tree so everything slides smoothly, along with properly stretched strings and you should be ok

dunno about pickups, if you playing punk/emo you might want a humbucker in bridge over a strat pickup

>>66110528
sure
>>
>>66110622
"If it ain't broke, don't fix it"

Assuming there's nothing wrong with your parts, don't replace them. The main trouble that usually comes with affinities is a flimsy neck. Believe it or not, a flimsy neck isn't the end of the world, but I would consider upgrading your guitar if you are having neck whip. If your neck is alright, by all means upgrade the pickups.

Fender pickups aren't that special these days, the budget brands are just as good if not better in some cases. GFS, caliguitar, and other artec brands are nice.

Or, it needs weathering, I've seen some others where the paint has faded to a calmer shade

It's a problematic giytar

Wilkinson tremolo is the best floating tremelo I've ever played with

It's starting to hold its tuning now , neck is as good as it'll get straight wise so new strings and intonation can be set

I'd go round wound for pure electric, flat wounds felt wrong

i am a manchild, my taste in music is what it is but I know a lot more about guitar and can play it better than you. Go talk to your high school counselor he can coach you through this hormonal hissy fit you are throwing in the guitar general
>>
>>66110783
also you can change the string trees to something lower friction

but if he's changing tuners, get height compensated tuners and just throw the string trees in the trash
