Lion in a Coma is the worst song on MPP.

Let me wait for you to stop frothing.

It kills the entire momentum of the album. The album begins a gradually slowdown starting with Daily Routine, reaching an excellent pace by Guys Eyes. And then Lion in a Coma absolutely rips that into pieces for really no reason.

It could've been placed better, or even more, just not included. No More Runnin works along with the intended structure, where the album slows down all the way until Brothersport kicks it into high gear for a last hurrah.

I like Lion in a Coma. It probably has some of the best lyricism on the album. But it fucks over the album, and its the worst song on it.
>>
>>66069374
I'm not saying it's a bad track at all. It's just overwhelmed by the other more standout tracks.

I get what you mean. It's absolutely worth discussing but is overlooked due to being the most popular AC song out there. But I'm not going to let that make me overrate what it is. It's a great track, surrounded by even better tracks.
>>
>>66069391
I can see where you're coming from but I think it works absolutely perfect. It's not supposed to be just a slow paced album, it's supposed to be a heavy synth accessible album which it does perfectly

>>
>>66069448
>it's supposed to be a heavy synth accessible album which it does perfectly

Even with that, Lion in a Coma doesn't really work with it. I can see where it's coming from, they did put effort in placing it after Taste's tropical rainforest soundscaping, but it's just so jarring from everything else on the album.

I'm not saying the whole album has to be slowly paced; in fact, the first four tracks and the beginning of the fifth are all quite high energy. It's those remaining four and a half tracks that allow the space the album needs. Most of their albums roughly follow this formula, setting up the first half with high energy jams and spreading out that feeling over the second half, with the last track picking up where we left off.

"Four walls and adobe slabs" is a metaphor for a stable and loving home.
>>
>>66069812
I've tried to defend this before as Panda treating something like social status as far more material and bound to this world, than something that is literally material but much more figuratively important to him like adobe slats for his girls.

Basically, Panda doesn't care about the immaterial fame, because it only brings material things. Panda DOES care about being able to provide a house for his loved ones, a material thing that brings immaterial concepts - love, fatherhood, being a good husband, family.

It's a mixed metaphor, granted, but I see what he means.

And a social stats is usually determined by material things.
>>
>>66069859
You mean a house? As in four walls and a roof?

Yes. That's definitely a material thing.

>>66069883
I'd be able to believe that if the lyrics preceding the chorus didn't include the line "I only want a proper house" and the song weren't about wanting a literal house for his family
>>
>>66069895
I mean so basically what we've learned here ladies and gents is that panda can sing whatever the fuck he wants and we'll have booker t. washington over here rationalize the ever-loving shit out of it til it "makes sense"
>>
>>66069895
This is an explanation I can get behind.
>>
>>66069812
A social status is based on superficial material things like wealth, while the importance of 'four walls and adobe slabs' is family.
>>
>>66069967
This is true for literally every musician.

>the song weren't about wanting a literal house for his family
Where? That one line that could also be a metaphor?
>>
>>66069967
>I will have sons and daughters
Panda makes the claim that he will provide a family for his dying father, achieving him the single goal of every father in the evolutionary sense.
>And I will say, here are your grandchildren
Not only does he claim he will achieve this goal, but he will do it prior to his father's death, letting him personally see his success as a father, as his son becomes a father himself
>And you will see them
The true tragedy of the lyric, is that Panda's father died before the birth of his daughter Nadja, denying him the intention of the song.

I can do this with any Panda song.

Not him, but Geo and Avey dominating CHz is one of it's downsides. Panda should have had a stronger presence, but due to the recording had a much weaker involvement. Deak is often given as example of it, but outside of Wide-Eyed and the guitar focus, is barely part of it.
>>
>>66070773
I completely disagree with you. And honestly, I think Deak contributed quite a bit to CHz and other albums. Some of my favorite moments on CHz are the guitar licks that Deak plays.

I don't know what you mean about the recording process either. How would that affect Panda Bear?

>I completely disagree with you.

That's cool, but it's pretty much understood. Avey and Geo dominated both the concept and recording method. The manic energy and the majority of the lyrical themes are entirely Avey's doing, which both gives it its strengths and its weakness.

>nd honestly, I think Deak contributed quite a bit to CHz and other albums.

Don't get me wrong, he's an immense influence on Feels and Campfire Songs, and on HCTI and Strawberry Jam he's an influential player, but outside Wide-Eyed, his presence on CHz is very minimal. Avey is the principal songwriter, Geo is the principal producer.

>Some of my favorite moments on CHz are the guitar licks that Deak plays.

This I can agree with, and it's one of the strengths of the album. Which is why I want more of Deak in terms of sound design for their future albums.

>How would that affect Panda Bear?

Panda is the only one of them to live outside the country. He had to move back in with his mother for Centipede Hz, which put a heavy amount of stress on him, bringing his whole family with him. This turned out positively on New Town Burnout, but he really phoned it in on Rosie Oh (even though I think it's a good song). He was tired and upset pretty much the entire recording of it, which reinforces how hectic and uncertain it is.

I think it's really difficult to debate that Avey and Geo were the architects of its themes and its sounds, respectively. The whole 'alien pop' thing is pretty clearly an Avey thing, given the entirety of Slasher Flicks.

My belief its a downside, is how strained it is. Compare MPP, how it has a wholly understood gasp for air. CHz doesn't have that until the very last track. The whole album is incredibly anxious, uncomfortable. I like the album, quite a lot, and pretty much all I enjoy out of it, was masterminded by Avey and Geo, and subsequently, they were responsible for the things I don't like about it.
