What is the best solution for electronic (not dubstep or edm, just electronic; think Radiohead) beat making?
Please respond. I feel like there is probably some sort of industry standard that I simply don't know about. Is it Maschine?
I've been asking the same question for a long while ... bump

Hopefully today is the day we have our question answered. I don't have a percussion background, so I want one extremely comprehensive synth or VST that I can learn inside and out before branching out to more specialized solutions.
literally just download a DAW
ableton is great

I have Cubase but I haven't spent any significant amount of time with it or the included VSTs yet. I guess I just have an irrational aversion to stock stuff
download a daw. FL is good too if you are comfortable with it. Download a bunch of vsts. I personally have 500 vsts all downloaded over the course of 1 year. Watch youtube tutorials if you are completely noob. even if you are not it's still to watch tutorials because you will most definitely find that one feature or knob you never knew about that will help you a lot. Literally never use presets if you are serious about production. Only time I use presets is when I need a sound of an instrument like a keyboard or a guitar or something. Try to imitate your mix levels to that of aphex twin. richard has made all kinds of stuff so you will always fine a track you can reference to.

That's daunting. I'm looking for one that I can get super familiar with to learn exactly what I'm looking for and then branch out

No one is going to hold your hand, nigga. Download a few, keep the ones you want and toss the ones you don't, and mess around with them until you find one you really like. Then go all autistic on it.
If you're expecting someone to say: download this vst, this one, then this one and this one - it's not going to happen.

I'm expecting/hoping for someone to say "x VST is pretty much an industry standard, start there". I just want the NI Massive of percussion

listen to this guy. Even if I name you some vsts, they might not work for you because of a lot of reasons. Just go crazy on a download spree. I love vsts so even though I have hundred I still download vsts every week. Download a bunch of free sample drum hits too. fuck loops, download single hits.

Do you want a drum sequencer vst?
>>66039080
Yes

there is no industry standard for drum sequencer. I think most people use the sequencer that comes with the DAW. The ones who are using 3rd party sequencers are entirely because they have spent time experimenting with a number of those.
