Gal Costa - Gal
this was pretty fun all things considered
it's by no means par for the course psychedelic pop especially for the time in which it was created
late in the album there's some tape fuckery and noisy stuff going on with weirdo vocals and loops n shit, it's pretty great, sounds like Keiji Haino a bit, only he's in a good mood
Is Technomalaser ded? he mentioned something about exams or some shit.
anyway, get recs in now if you're holding out on me
Crispy, fried memes
Sonny Boy Williamson & Memphis Slim (1st impressions)
This seems more like a fun impromptu live set than a focused collaboration. Still features some very good instrumentals from Memphis Slim and Sonny, so it's worth a listen for fans of either.
Not much replayability as most of the songs are lesser versions of previous recordings.
Recommended for fans.

Not a bad album, but not a good one either. The vocals are good and the music is calm and sometimes pleasant but the record is overall boring and too generic.

Giles Corey - Giles Corey (1st impressions)
This is a pop album without catchy hooks and melodies.
This is an ambient record that doesn't suck you in to it's soundscapes.
This is a musique-concrete album with no interesting samples, tape manipulations or experimentation.
Just pretty bland and boring overall. trip away the annoying backround layers and it's just a retard strumming his guitar like a strung out Syd Barrett, mumbling about his struggles.
The longer songs made me contemplate killing myself just so I wouldn't have to finish them.
I see the parallels in the band name now, though, as listening to this album felt like being pressed.

STARSAILOR
Minutemen - Double Nickels on the Dime
for an album (let alone a punk album) of this ambition and scope to maintain this consistently good songwriting over 45 tracks is fucking astounding
just about all of the instrumentation here is so on point it's not funny, the bass is punchy and groovy, the guitar spazzes the fuck out all over the place and the drums neatly tie it all together. It's abundantly clear to me that this band is a bona-fide unit, comprising of three members with profound talent that work so well of each other they match the likes of the jazz bands of Miles Davis and John Coltrane on their better recordings. The comparison to jazz is not one that doesn't fit either, while still a punk album, Double Nickels is barely so, often eschewing the typical fast pace and anger of the genre for musical complexity.
Some of the lyrics now, some of them, didn't gel with the rhythms of the music being played here... I also didn't much care for the guy's voice here, there were points were he was a bit out of place, it's a minor gripe but an important one. Imagine if this was just instrumentals, it'd be sublime.
this'll warrant many relistens, maybe I'll warm to the singing

Refused - The Shape of Punk to Come (1998)
>post-hardcore, hardcore punk
It's a good thing this wasn't the shape of punk to come because this kinda blows. The actual punk bits are done well, they're hard-hitting, they're pretty catchy, and they're just really nice to listen to. Anytime the band tries to step out of their comfort zone, experimenting with soundscaping, electronic music, modern classical, this thing crashes and burns. Just like what I said about Graceland and it's use of African music, these styles serve no purpose in the actual music besides adding some sort of culture or credibility, they detract from the actual good hardcore here and they're just done really poorly and sound totally amateur.

Fine electropop album. She has a beautiful voice. Not many vocal eccentricities but a definitive will to use all the possibilities of the voice as an instrument. The opener is brilliant. I was surprised to see that I liked it way more on my second listen.
7/10
>Tim Hecker - Love Streams
Tim Hecker goes progressive, at least in some of the tracks. He also uses vocal samples on this album and it works well. This all felt much less dark and much less dense than his last album. There's little of the fantastic textures and tension he managed to create on Virgins. There's some moment of brilliance here and there but as a whole, it sometimes failed to maintain my interest. There's a huge drop in quality once passed Violin Monumental II.
6/10
>Julianna Barwick - Will
Dreamy ambient pop. Not unlike Grouper, all tracks feature relaxing vocal harmonies, drowned in reverb. Depending on the song, it is accompanied by strings and piano or electronics. The album may be a bit formulaic and samey, but pleasant nonetheless.

>It's a good thing this wasn't the shape of punk to come
Would have to strongly disagree. It's obviously a massive overstatement (and kind of a pre-determined shooting-yourself-in-the-foot) to compare your album to something as groundbreaking as "The Shape of Jazz to Come", which absolutely predicted a distinct genre of its kind. Unlike that album which came pretty much at the inception of Avant-Garde Jazz, this sort of came after the apex of Post-Hardcore, which I would argue this came out slightly after that scene had some tangibility/legitimacy to it. Rather, this album really set the stage for a lot of punk music released throughout the 2000s that had a lot more rhythmic complexity (what some would call "Modern Art Punk", but adding "Art" to any genre is near the most retarded thing ever). Maybe less influential than some would argue, but influential nonetheless.
Again, I think your reasoning for not enjoying it is sound, I just think your framing is wrong.

Not all music is created equal. :^)
Translator won't be done for a couple more days, but I'll give a you a little taste of what's to come with an anecdote:
So you know when they're introducing the different band members in "Oh! Slime"? The reason they keep saying "Sato" again and again, is because the other vocalists are actually mispronouncing his name over and over (something to the effect of "SHATO" and other variations) and he keeps yelling back to them, as in correction "SATO" as if the rest of the band is making fun of him, which is pretty hilarious as he ends the altercation with a wailing "NAAAAAAAAAAAH" in disagreement.
Also, I'll just paste what he said about the rest of the song:
>6:58~
>(Translator`s note: what the vocal is
singing at this point is a mystery. After
having several Japanese natives listen to
the track, the consensus is that what is
being sung is not Japanese but perhaps
English? I have searched many different
Japanese blogs that are teaching for the
same answer about what is being sung.
One of the thoughts is that because the
singer has been heavily influenced by
reggae music, he is attempting to sing
some phrase phonetically. But no one
knows for sure.)
This will probably remain a mystery, but I was most curious about this track since it had no lyrics in the vinyl liner notes. Will keep you guys updated. I believe only tracks 3 and 7 still need translated, then I'll dump a pastebin as well as a word doc I'm making.
Monolake - Silence (2009)
>minimal techno, ambient techno
Techno that's engineered for success, and that certainly achieves this success. Even just by looking at this album's cover, you know you're in for something exceedingly comfy. However, there's not much to grab onto, and I guess it just seems a bit too calculated and emotionless (I mean, it is techno. but techno can be organic, right?). Still just some exceedingly cozy stuff.
3.0
Loop - Heaven's End (1987)
>neo-psychedelia, space rock
The spacey atmospheres are down pat, but they're just biting Spacemen 3 hardcore, and don't even have the melodic capablities of the band they're obviously totally in love with. It's a pleasant listen, and it's certainly done well, but it's just totally forgettable, so many other bands have done this style of music much better.

The guy at the bottom says it'll kill me.
Should I still listen to Fahey and risk death?!?!?
>>66043131
that's a bit overblown lmao, mold on one record sleeve won't kill you.
but yes, do risk death for fahey, he deserves it.
>>66043190
Tell that to his dead brother-in-law!
Lmao, i'll wipe it with alcohol; it's not that mouldy.
>>66043353
probably wipe the inside too
Fucking hell, Jangle has probably the worst taste in /daily/ lmao
>>66044286
Nah he likes some cool jazz, nyarlato has probably the worst taste here
>>66044614
>>66044286
WRONG
'TIS I
>>66044779
Yours is okay
>>66044850
???
Literally how?
"Fish has worst taste" is /daily/ canon
>>66044867
Noticed how many people here like the fishmen?
>>66044967
hm...tru...
FINALLY done with 9 Symphonien, and I expected to recognize the few obvious parts, but I could pick out a few individual moments and be like, "oh yeah, this part I recognize from here" or whatever. Obviously this format is less digestible as far as level of concentration demanded, but also as far as dynamics, which in a few in particular cases are bouncin' around fucking everywhere. Maybe I should stop listening to so much classical since I almost never have a constructive or interesting opinion about most of it, I just know I fairly enjoyed this.
Now on to my new chart. AND MORE JURY DUTY TOMORROW. OH BOY
>>66045158
Isn't it illegal to discuss your jury duty outside of the court
Copped, also recent cops
Also, spotted in the swans executive producers
Venetian Snares' cat Kakarookee died today :(
>>66046184
WOW that's mind blowing, but unfortunately Glowing Man felt like the weakest link out of the trilogy
>>66046254
disagree there, felt like it was better than 2bk
(also note that executive producer just means they bought the gate)
Shellac - At Action Park
I fucking love Steve Albini right, the production here is really fucking good, everything sounds so crystal clear yet rougher than a bandsaw blade
It bangs so hard too, even on the more downtempo stuff here
I have one main criticism, the vocals are so low in the mix sometimes so as to be unintelligible, it's kind of a frustrating blemish on an otherwise great record
Bob Dylan - Bringing it all Back Home
eh, didn't really care for any of the songs here, dunno, the rockier stuff seemed forced or fake or something, those songs were bad except for subterranean homesick blues, liked that one, and liked the music video as well
The Acoustic songs here are much better, Mr Tambourine Man is such a fucking banger
The algorithm say's i'd like the Chrome album in the top row
what after?
>>66046485
Dummy
>>66046202
poor kakarokee :(
>>66046376
Bought the gate? That makes sense. Will probably did it to be kind and not to seer Swan's reputation
>>66046184
>>66046254
Thurston Moore is also in there somewhere
Chrome - Half Machine Lip Moves
it's kind of like proto-Boredoms, it's got the same sort of energy and sound to it
it's not nearly as good, and the production has aged pretty terribly, but for what it is it's decent
Portishead now (finally), then the algorithm says Blonde on Blonde (the last Dylan album) then what?
Heya /daily/!
Back from the Slovak wilderness into a Slovak office, flying back to Riga tomorrow. Any dank memes I missed?
I listened to Trilogie de la mort during my Monday trip and it was absolutely amazing. Amongst the world of drones these small melodic snippets of musical content sounded absolutely surreal and gave me goosebumps.
Put on Fun House too but fell asleep and only woke up to the madness of L.A. Blues. Will relisten to it when I'm not as tired.
>>66046184
I'm on it too!
>>66047144
figured as much, couldn't afford The Gate but with the amount of shit I've bought off YGR shop I still looked for my name anyway
>>66028473
Daily reminder that you should quit last.fm before it gets too late
I'm going to see King Gizzard tomorrow live and I've been invited to some Poutine and Beer thingy like a Km out of the way, but about 3 hours earlier two questions
1. Is poutine good, is it worth my time to go out of my way to hunt it down for dinner
2. does anyone care enough for me to shitpost about the show afterwards
>>66047320
also a poutine meme review?
also uhh, music
>>66046812
Thurston Moore is like the coolest music guy in the history of cool music guys. Everyone shits themselves over Albini but Moore is the OG
>>66047007
>then what?
s/t
also, Youth of America. A score below an 8 is not permissible, btw.
Portishead - Dummy
Didn't think it was quite as good as Third, but it was still filled with great songs
Everything has this washed out quality to it, the bass the drums, the bleeps a little bit, that is cut through with the vocals, which are a little too bright for my liking, they don't really gel all that well with the instrumentation here, and the instrumentation is great, again, not as good as third but oh well
Joy Division - Closer
This might make a lot of people angry
I didn't much care for the songwriting here, it didn't seem like there were any real moments here where Joy Division grabbed your attention, as is the case frequently on Unknown Pleasures, it felt a bit like a poor imitation of their former greatness with less good production quality
>>66047671
witnessed
>>66027975
Both Chrome albums are fantastic. Alien Soundtracks is my favorite record.
>>66047792
Do Piper now
New meme
>>66048167

>tfw said I was gonna start trad tourney before July but gonna start it early July instead
;_;
At least I can finish my first tourney today.
>>66048578
Seconding the meetup thing.
>>66048615
will SDC finally leave Hungary in order to fulfill his role as ambassador? stay tuned to find out
>>66048615
That sounds unbelievably gay. What do you even plan to do when you meet up?
>>66048726
Unbelievably gay things probably.
>>66042943
you should hijack a plane t b h
>>66048726
go to a music festival, drink, have gay sex
Wipers - Youth of America
Bring it Termi ブチ コロスゾ コノヤロ!
Fairly standard punk riffage here, undercut with some nice flourishes, vocals are suitably angery and forceful, if a little dated
When it's Over and No Fair drag out for far longer than they need to, outstaying their welcome but the title track is actually quite good so the balances of powers swing it to 7
Pink Floyd - Piper at the Gates of Dawn
This is a jam fest, and a good one at that, diverse enough to hold attention to the end and smart enough to let you, the listener lock into the grooves and spazz the fuck out, rising and falling in complexity and 'layers' so as to give off this 'deconstructionist' feeling, it's great
>>66048726
eat kapsalon and not talk to each other
>>66048756
requesting the OP image of the fuck circle to be next thread, shit's funny
>>66048868
>>66048756
>>66048761
I don't see this happening
>>66048961
I can see this happening.
Internet meet ups sound So awkward . Do you approach someone and say "He-hey i'm Hahahaha from the /daily/ threa" i mean do you guys even know your real names?
>>66049148
We went to a music festival last year. Wasn't really awkward, but some people obviously clicked better with each other than others
>>66049148
I think Thomas' name is Thomas
>>66049148
dude everyone should add each-other on facebook and share memes all day
>>66049148
>literal autist can't imagine people connecting
Colour me surprised.
>>66049209
It's not that, it's just that i would never approach someone and say "Hello Dogwanderer". And if you do meetups you might as Well do a Facebook community. But if it's cool for you then that's ok
>>66049195
Willing to bet Trans God was the least awkward, but i have a hard time thinking
>>66049196
shit, my cover has been blown
>>66049209
I am so not doing this
>>66049224
neurotypical swine
>>66049262
> i would never approach someone and say "Hello Dogwanderer
good, that would be fucking embarrassing.
it's "dogwander"
>>66049262
Not at all. Most of us know our real names through snapchat/skype etc.
>>66049262
you have basically a glorified chatroom in 4chan right,
>agree on a meeting place (like a nandos or something i don't care)
>announce yourself when you arrive
>sit down at a table
>introduce yourself with your real names
>????
>gay sex and profit
not hard
>>66049322
Anon figured it out.
>>66049262
yeah you don't approach him and say "hello dogwanderer", you say "hi there becky" ;)
he was the least awkward of the bunch, btw
>>66049274
I was joking
>>66049262
*Hard time thinking who was the most awkward
>>66049224
I'm not autistic, it's just that i've never been sold on the "internet friends" thing.
>>66049400
>I'm not autistic
