Don't be subjective anon, it hurts the discussion.
Also most Andersons looks just like the Fender counterpart with higher craftmanship/parts.
I was actually memeing tbqh family because I'm bored and slightly upset by other shit here.
I want a Fender Elite Strat but can't buy it at the moment. They play and sound terrific.

Depends on the string material some acoustic strings are not very magnetic and the pickups won't pick them up, otherwise they are just shit to play and might warp your neck on the long run if they are some extra heavy gauge strings.

To the fellow mustang bro asking the difference between the Squier and Fender
I prefer the Squiers chunky C shape 9.5 neck more than the 7.25 slim C neck on the Fender. Electronically the Fender sounds better with pedals due to the single coils and the pups on the Squier regret individually but have to tweak the pedals to make them compatible with the lipstick and HOt rail

Alright, /mu/faggots, we all know most floating tremolos are garbage. For every one that swears by a Floyd there are a dozen more who curse it. From unreliability to being a pain in the ass to set up, floating trems are in need of a modern upgrade

How would you design a floating trem or what would you change or fix from the current ones?

For me: Make a Flody easier to adjust intonation without having to keep loosening and retuning strings

what's the point of having expensive guitars when you use distortion anyways? i can't tell the difference in sound between my cheap $90 one and a nicer one i bought. the only difference is that the cheaper one's easier to string bend and the more expensive one feels sturdier and looks cooler
>>
>>66008664
I really like the Music Man tremolo in the Petrucci guitars, as far as I know it's a custom design for those.
It keeps in tune and allows you to do some bar wanking if you want. Very stable.
>>66008754
Seems right to me Mesa bro.
Also you can get really amazing guitars for $1200 second hand.
>>66008837
Feel, playability, comfyness. Electronics not being a noisy mess.
A lot of it can be remediated if you do a project but sometimes you can't be arsed to DIY.
>>
/gg/, help.

My jig-saw broke just before starting to cut the body of my project guitar and I'm currently considering some alternatives, but can't think of any cheap-ish ones.

What would you guys use to cut out a guitar body? (btw. the cheaper the better)
And would a fret saw do justice and what type of blade would be best?
>>
>>66008664
The Ibanez Zero Resistance bridges really have a good idea and are headed in the right direction as far as trem design.
Rather than use a knife edge like a Floyd it uses ball bearings, similar to how a Khaler uses a cam system.
And on the Edge ZR to adjust intonation you don't have to unlock everything and move the string, there's a screw in the back of the bridge to do it.
It seems pretty genius to me, but I've never seen one in person yet to know how reliable they are
>>
>>66008664
>For every one that swears by a Floyd there are a dozen more who curse it.
Just whiny babies desu. If you don't like it you don't need you cry about it. "They're harder to set up" is understandable. So is not wanting to deal with it. But cursing something because it's hard is for faggots.

This is actually something I came here to ask you guys about since I know a lot of you are really knowledgeable on amps and stuff.

I have never been an amp guy. I have had my Line 6 Spider IV for years because I live in a small dorm and that's all I've ever been able to use or need.
Now I'm in the market for my first ever "real" amp and am completely clueless about amps or anything about them. I don't even know how they work with tubes and all that.
I want a half stack but nothing super crazy or expensive. How much could I expect to spend on a decent quality head and cab? How much should I not spend to avoid overpaying for something not worth the price?

Unless you're playing large outdoor shows a halfstack is complete overkill.

http://www.guitarcenter.com/Peavey/Classic-30-112-30W-1x12-Tube-Combo-Amp.gc

I'm not sure how well they handle low to medium gain, but these are always a staple for heavier music:

http://www.guitarcenter.com/Peavey/6505-112-60W-1x12-Tube-Combo-Guitar-Amp.gc

The Marshall DSL40C gets an honorable mention but I heard its drive sucks ass.

I guess I could have worded it better, but the amps EQ is very limited, there is no mid control and the amp is extremely bright unless you turn the treble way down.

I'm not saying its a bad amp but it isn't very versatile either.

(Haven't even gotten my first guitar yet, very new to this stuff. If I sound like an idiot right now, this is why) so I plan on getting a guitar soon and it's probably going to be more of an entry level guitar. not shitty, but not a strat either. I knew the weakest part of the guitar would end up being pickups so I decided to get way ahead of myself and check out Seymour Duncan's website for pickups. while there all I could find was stuff like "vintage this" and "silver wire that" and all I was looking for was their standard pickups for strat/strat like guitars. do they even offer that? or do they only offer stuff like what I previously mentioned. sorry again if I sound like an idiot, I kind of am. thanks

why would you need a snare?
i think its a pretty good idea and you'd be pretty hipster with your guitar drummer. 10/10

When you're just starting off pick ups aren't a huge deal. You can always upgrade them later when you know more about what sort of sound you want to get from them.

>>
>>66014666
tweak your plugins, you can't expect a 100$ interface to do all the job in your place.
You have too much highs, and maybe not enough low mids.
If the compressor's after your IRs, take it out, you're not "producing", you're recording, loudness war is stupid.
>>
>>66014857
should i lower all the outputs on the plugins?

>>66014351
The gain sounds unpleasant like clipping. You probably have your interface gain too high or you're pushing the signal too hard in your DAW. Also that amp sim sounds straight up digital, and there's not much getting around that

>For every one that swears by a Floyd there are a dozen more who curse it.
Setting up a floyd rose is a skill in itself. The vast majority of people who complain about it have either only just gotten the guitar, avoid string changes like the plague and never get any better at it, or have a very low quality floyd that is prone to issues.

OFRs, Original Edge, and LoPro Edge are pretty rock solid once it's setup properly.

Other than that dual tracking the guitars, cutting the highs and slows slightly and adding a bass guitar thickens things up very quickly.

Feel is more important on a guitar than tone in my opinion, basing this off the fact Ive owned fuck loads of different guitars and generally your amp and pedals will shape the tone you make more.

But for a beginner I wouldnt even be worrying about that, I'd focus on getting a solid guitar and a solid amp that will last you.
>>
Just an update on the no-load tone pot: it's fucking great. I thought my guitar could do everything before, now it can actually be mistaken for an acoustic. I'm falling in love with this guitar for what must be the 4th time. The massive variety of tones seemingly multiplies by two with this mod. Taking the tone knob out just makes the pickups sound completely different, and makes the combinations have the clarity of single pickups.

Everyone, please, for your own good mod your tone pots.
>>
>>66015336
Blues junior is not good for blues, not in an elitist "you-must-spend-at-least-this-much-to-lawyer" way, it's just doesn't work that well for blues.
>>
>>66015222
Only did it quickly so there's obviously a ton pf room for improvement. That and I had to rip the clip from Clyp.it haha. There's a bit of clipping in the DI, so you could probably benefit from turning the interface input gain down slightly.

You're better off spending the extra for a used AxeFX II. Stereo amp sims are amazing.

EZDrummer 2 is great, but I've found a good IR goes a LONG way with LePou. Never been huge on the big names in amp modelling for plugins.

Try using LeCab or NadIR in Dual Mono with the ASEMV30 IR in the OP on both sides hard panned. Not the greatest for clean, but anything with gain should sound better.

>Ever used the MT kit? I've heard it's one of the best free drum VSTs out there but I've never had a paid one like EZ or Superior to compare it to.
Never sorry, but I've gotten some great results out of EZDrummer 2. I've heard really good things about Steven Slate Drums as well, but the samples are pretty well produced.

The best place to have it set up is probably your local professional luthier. Most of them will charge a flat rate for a string change, fretboard cleaning, truss adjustment, action adjustment, etc. The store in my neighborhood charges $30 for all that, plus the cost of whatever strings I buy there. No, but the fact of the matter is shorter scale means less tension. So playing .11s is a lot like playing 10s on a les paul or 9s on a fender. The strings are thicker but the tension is similar. So, bass pickups. After some testing I've come to the conclusion that I like single coils, humbuckers not so much. Are the really huge Musicman Humbuckers really much different or is it just the "sweetspot" position that makes a stingray sound unique? Also, split coil pickups, not sure how I feel about them. Again, does a P bass sound the way it does because of the pickup or because it's in a middle position as opposed to neck or bridge? Would it be possible to have a MM Humbucker in its sweetspot position and then a split coil after that? So you can switch between stingray and P-bass sound in one bass?

Do this for a few months until you all get into the habit of structuring your practice sessions just before you start according to the current conditions, e.g.: what you're currently all working on, upcoming shows, new songs, new techniques…etc

what would you do? top is a 70s silverface vibro champ, bottom is a 1994 fender twin (no twin reverb). both all tube. top 5W, bottom 25/100W.

1. use the twin only
2. use vibro champ only
3. use vibro champ with twin as speaker cabinet (2x12 instead of 1xsomething small)

Use both and mess around to create some interesting textures. I'd probably use the vibro champ distorted and through a proper 1x12" while keeping the twin clean or slightly overdriven

They do sound different to full scales, but it's not that big a deal. The main thing is, it's harder to get a slappy sound out of them. And if you put flats on them they start to sound pretty different.

Sounds good. You kept it funky instead of making it sound like a type writer.

I was thinking about buying my first acoustic guitar (been playing electric for 1 year now) and my teacher, who works at a music store, told me about a Tanglewood Crossroads TWCR they just received. It's 160€, and he says that's a great deal for the money.

Does anyone know about this brand and this specific model? I know nothing about acoustic guitars so I'm not sure if that's a fair price or if the guitar's good at all.

As you might be able to see from the picture, I disconnected one end of the track of the potentiometer. A potentiometer is a variable resistor, and the way it works is by a wiper connected to the center lug moving along a graphite track. The other lugs are connected to each end of the track. When there's a longer section of graphite, the resistance is greater.

The shortcoming of this design is that the wiper will always have at least a tiny bit of graphite between it and either lug. That means when you have your tone "maxed," you don't completely avoid sending any of your high end to ground. you still lose the very high frequencies commonly referred to as "presence".

A no load pot will make sure none of your presence is removed. The basic advantage of this is that all those high order harmonics you normally remove are still in the signal, which basically means everything you hear acoustically as far as wavelengths is the same as what you hear though your amp. Most of the high end, however, is just string noise. But cutting the high end with digital EQ works differently than a passive tone cut, preserving your harmonics. So you can retain your harmonics if you are careful, while still having a not-too-bright tone.

Treble bleed circuits cut everything above a certain point, and the higher above the threshold of the bleed, the more it is cut. So a tiny cut to your "treble" is a huge cut to your "presence" if you use your guitar's tone knob, even in the "max" position.

But even with just a meager length of cable you'll lose all that extra high end the pot has given you.

any tips for transcribing?
i'm trying to transcribe this into the guitar: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8tlmFJJYeGA

it's my first time doing this, and i feel like i'm wading into deep waters here.
so far, my plan is to map the beat and figure out which note is the bass note, and see which chord corresponds to said note, but i'm not sure if it's very effective.
any tips?
