I didn't write any of the poorer lyrics for The Beach Boys. Cousin Brian had another guy in by the name of tony Asher for a lot of that album but I made a few adjustments like taking out some unsightly drug references, etc. It was a dark time for the band but we got out the other end.

There wasn't much I could do I'm afraid. I arrived back from tour to all this chaos and a mostly finished album. I just needed to get it past the label and in a state where it could be released. We needed an album out and Brian was really far out on lsd and marijuana, he just couldn't be reasoned with. If I had my way I'd have scrapped it, stipped back the songs and had an honest try at rewriting the lyrics but it just wasn't commercially viable at the time.
