The Cure's use of the Fender VI is the one thing that really sets them apart from other bands, granted its been used before, but The Cure didn't use it as a bass, but instead as a lead instrument, and there is a certain sound associated with their use of it that is instantly recognizable and indistinguishable.

It's on all sorts of songs, the instrument and the way it is used is literally the entire backbone of their sound.
The best example of its use is on the track "The Same Deep Water As You" it's that unmistakable ticky-tacky sound. Really the only band to use that instrument to its full potential, not a bass and not a guitar, somewhere in between yet not a baritone guitar.

Robert Smith is a poor vocalist. Lyrically, inferiorto Mozz, and the hair and make up thing got old really fast.
