It was counter culture from the beginning and the sound, antics, imagery, lyrical content and ideology and aesthetics were meant to keep the average person away. Easily accessible bands do the opposite. Bands like deafheaven attract people who dont enjoy black metal into the scene. This takes away the purpose of being exclusive.

Yes they're exclusively a more aggressive black metal band. Most of their songs are fast in a similar fashion as Blaze in the Northern Sky. Look up their first few albums. Theyre latest Frontschwein is pretty GOAT. War metal is faggy but they do it right.
