Why are people freaking out over Kanye's video? It's just a bunch of naked look-a-likes. It's not like they're fucking or doing anything crazy. Are exposed breasts supposed to be "edgy" or "shocking?"
And it's not wrong to use someone's likeliness for something like this. It reminds me of animated comedies like The Simpsons drawing celebrities to make fun of them, and no one ever got sued for that. Granted, they weren't naked, but still. There's nothing slanderous or overly-offensive about it.
And what exactly is Kanye trying to say here? Is he "exposing" the people depicted in the video? Is he trying to say that he's better than those people, or that he "made them famous?" I actually wanna know what people think about this.
This is such a non-controversy it's ridiculous. I see people talking about it on Twitter but I'm convinced it's fake hype drummed up by a marketing team. I'm also convinced that a few of the celebrities depicted were in on it too. And I guarantee no one will even remember this happened a week from now.

the way i see it mankind has always needed celebrities.
in ancient civilizations they would come up with gods who they believed were gifted with extraordinary beauty, talents, strength, vigor, etc. People became obsessed with the religions, it became part of the culture of civilizations, and in a weird way the "gods" themselves (such as the Hindu gods Vishnu, Padma or the Greek/Roman Gods like Zeus) gave the people something to aspire to an emulate. Kings and Queens later on were revered and held up as the greatest of nations that everyone else looked up to.
I think modern day celebrities is really just an extension of this. As humans we crave to see something that's human, and yet larger than life. That's why Superman and Batman get popular, they captivate us and make us want to emulate them or hate them. These celebrities who are in all the news headlines, music videos, political offices hold such deep influence over our world, by nature of being human we can't help but be captivated by such people, whether we like it or not.
I really don't know what I'm getting at, but basically what I'm saying is the culture of celebrity obsession is something inherently human, and will probably never go away.
