I love the different amount of influences included in this. From 8-bit reminiscent electronica, to harsh noise, to primal, almost aphex inspired beats, you do a great job overall.

My favorite tracks definitely have to be Grace and Aubrey though. In my opinion the tracks that evoke the most emotion and for that I wanted to see if I could ask if there was any correlation between the atmosphere they bring and the possible influence those people had on your life.

what does the size of his audience have to do with the genre of music he makes?
>>
>>65896971
Every single track on there is a personal interpretation on how I'm not connected with them anymore. Grace nagged me constantly because she wanted me to set my friend and her up (it never happened). Aubrey was my first girlfriend. Make of that what you will, I suppose.
>>
>>65897080
More like the style and time. House music came out of Chicago when people would play their own dance music for house parties
>>
>>65897115
>>65895131
Yeah, i saw the description of those people as being intimately connected to the album and thats what got me wondering about those tracks.

This really helps to put a bit more of context into those tracks, so thank you, I appreciate it. Especially when some tracks like Lindsey are so sweet. Awesome stuff, definitely reccing, looking forward to checking out the other stuff that isn't three years old

>Experimental, Various Genres

We start off my new label, Jacob And Friends, with the release of Eric Taxxon's Sky Simplified.
Will be accepting submissions for the label.

>New Release

>Eric Taxxon
>Sky Simplified
>Santa Cruz, Ambient, Ambient Pop, Drone, Vaporwave.

Description:
We often view the sky as something of an art piece in itself. Something reflective, as we wonder and gaze into its openness, while evolving with its ever changing shapes and colors. Eric Taxxon attempts to embody such in his new album, Sky Simplified. With droning synths and ambient melodies, Eric tackles how he holds viewership of the sky with his gentle and yet intricate production.

Now available for stream and download!

so fucked guys, been arrested and released from jail on bail. lookin at some pot growing charges and pot posession, plus research chems they might be charging me for. just released this new album, anyways - yall should check it out. doing a few live ELPU jams in my town, expect those to be uploaded to youtube. unfortunately i'm going to face the consequences and either go to jail or be fined up to $1,500 for the pot, at least 2x if charged for analogs, so i'd appreciate any donations to my paypal via the email [email protected], or preferably to my bitcoin address at

Tip to most newer posters. Quit shitting up the thread with your meme bullshit music. I know, you spent a whole hour on it and you're very proud of it. You make it harder for others to find, you know, actual GOOD music in the threads, made by artists with actual talent.

I'm looking to create music as I'm in some band (although mediocre) and despite being good at playing the guitar I know absolutely nothing about music theory or how to create my own song and I just feel like dead weight in the band as everyone else does. What's a good starting point to learn from? I was thinking of following Justinguitar's free lessons from beginning to end. Any thoughts about this?

So I assume you've made some good songs following this advice?
>>
>>65906510
Not the anon that posted the Half Japanese article, but I had a friend in college expose me to these guys:

The albums Future Days, Tago Mago, and Ege Bamyasi are particularly fantastic.

They are certainly a band that didn't concern themselves too much with "theory" and "structure" and worried more about "feel" and "texture", and they were able to produce some amazing songs without being all that concerned with music theory.

If you've never given these three albums a glance, I strongly recommend giving them a listen through. It might open up some new doors for you, creatively speaking.
>>
>>65906769
But I've tried it before, locking myself in a room picking random strings to see what sounds good and it's impossible for me. That's why I prefer a more structural way of learning
>>
>>65906929
It's all about lowering your inhibitions. That guy from half japanese had to get to a point where he just absolutely did not give a fuck and wasn't self conscious about the sounds he was making. Like he said in the article when you stay within the "restrictions" of the "science" of music and "theory", you become limited. Maybe try some chemicals (a drink or two, maybe a joint if it's your predisposition) and treat yourself to a new effect pedal or something like that? I understand your frustrations, I'm just throwing ideas out there. More pedals can be like "catnip" for a guitar player. It can open up new avenues and more knobs means the more you mess with em, the more likely you might be to stumble upon an "aha!" moment. If you're worried about sounding like a well versed proper guitar player, than diving into theory is the only way to achieve that. If you're more concerned about finding a unique sound and style, you might have to train yourself to see your musical equipment as "tinker toys" rather than "a guitar. A pedal. etc"
>>
>>65906769
I am the anon who posted the Half Japanese article and I agree 100% about Can. Another great band that never restrains themselves, especially on those three fantastic albums. Most people I know hate H.J. but I love their music and their philosophy. I can't say I've written "good songs" following their advice but I can say I have gotten recs and positive feedback on these threads. That ain't much but it's better than nothing.

Yeah, listen to Can though.
>>
>>65907050
Exactly. I make electronic music and i started doing that instead of playing guitar in bands because I felt limited. When I started fucking around with electronic music I ran into the same roadblocks. "Why can't I get it to sound right?" "Why can't I make something that really kicks and has groove?". Subconsiously, I was comparing myself to other Electronic "musicians" who weren't so much musicians as "scientists". They had their songs down to a science which was why they always sounded airtight. technically perfect. BORING. The same friend who exposed me to Can showed me Black Moth Super Rainbow and Tobacco, and later that afternoon went with me to a Dan Deacon concert in the park. It was AMAZING. and Eye opening. Bands that strive for aesthetic over raw musical talent (although the technical talent in their productions is still very much there). For me it was the 1,2,3 combination of hearing Can, BMSR/Tobacco, And Dan Deacon all in the span of a few days that got me out of my rut. And I still go through ruts. But I've stopped comparing myself to other musicians and stopped striving to acquire "raw talent". Rather i'm more concerned with discovering "new secrets" and "new tricks", Which helps me sound and feel more unique since I discovered them on my own, in a back-asswards way that sounds more distinct than if I would have discovered them "in a book" or "in a tutorial".

AND ANOTHER THING.

Look at what small percentage of /mu/ users post their stuff in BC/SC threads... I'd bet money that MOST people on /mu/ fancy themselves "musicians". In almost every single thread on /mu/ where people get together to play "music critic" and shit like that, I would wager that a majority of those people play an instrument, or make music on their laptop.

But most of them Don't share it on SC/BC threads. Because they CARE too much. They're too caught up in "is it good?", "Do I sound talented?" "Will people think my work is legitimate?". So they never post it.

Meanwhile, every day there's a few people who give up all their inhibitions and say "fuck it, I think this shit sounds interesting, and I'm going to show people, goddammit!". And every day these people get honest critiques, feedback, and every musicians dream: FANS. EXPOSURE.

The percentage of musicians on this planet that will ever ascend to the ranks of "The Greats" is so miniscule. Realizing that you will most likely never ever join those ranks can be a relief. Because when the pressure to "Be Great" is no longer your #1 priority, you will be less stressed. You will be less stressed, and your musical creativity will flow more consistently.

Guitars are a little overpowering in the mix, man. Other than that the songs sound cohesive. If you still have the master recordings, I would recommend mixing things down a little softer, maybe add some more compression to the different tracks so there's more "breathing room".
