"wew"

>鷺巣詩郎 [Shiro Sagisu] - Neon Genesis Evangelion: The End of Evangelion
Pretty incredible. A thousand times better as a stand-alone piece than the show's. Every piece fit really well with each other, and the "Tumbling Down" song made me remember everything about why I love this movie. Would rec even if you haven't seen the series, but please do.
9

>Blümchen - Herzfrequenz
Popshit TO THE MAX YO. Shit's hype, and if you're looking for some pure, fun shit, definitly try this out.
7

>Moe Shop - Moshi Moshi
Future Funk is admittedly something I usually enjoy, and this was no exception. Wish it had more fleshed out songs that were over 3 minutes, but this is a nice EP.
7

>Venetian Snares - Traditional Synthesizer Music
I liked the warm feel and the few "throwback" parts, but otherwise a pretty by-the-books IDM/Drill and Bass album for the most part. Would've loved an actual album of Traditional Synth Music, but this really isn't that.
6

>Andrew Hill - Compulsion
*whips and nae naes* it was alright
6

>Ol' Dirty Bastard - Return to the 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version
The same production and atmosphere as 36 Chambers, with half the staying-power and memorable songs. Should've been 20+ minutes shorter.
5

>サニーデイ・サービス - 東京 (Tōkyō)
Pretty warm, but lame and boring folk music. Yawn.
5

>Miles Davis Quintet - Miles Smiles
least interesting thing I've heard by the dude thusfar
5

>My Chemical Romance - The Black Parade
"Dead!", "Famous Last Words" and the first half of "Welcome to the Black Parade" actually aren't that bad. The rest really is. "Teenagers" made me laugh my ass off at the memories of being a pseudo "emo" kid in middle school.
3

>Nurse With Wound - Homotopy to Marie
Actually glad I heard this, that way I can not waste my time with the rest of their boring-ass music.
2

everything is mediocre

>The Residents - WB RMX
taking their first unofficial release and remastering/recording it. actually makes it quite listenable this time around, but it's basically more mediocre 2000s material.

>The Millenium - Begin
some good stuff here and there, but mostly average 60s sunshine pop songs.

>Nurse With Wound - Homotopy To Marie
no, this is not 'spooky'. its mostly bad experimental dark ambient, but there are some beautiful moments scattered throughout. the first track is just pure shit. the second track, the glorious cymbal meme, would be fantastic if it wasnt so fucking long. the third track had some cool things here and there, probably the only track i really liked. overall bad meme

new chart let's do a dance

Guided by Voices - Same Place the Fly Got Smashed (1990)
>lo-fi indie

GBV's a great band, but man, they really did not find their footing until Propeller. There are moments of the melodic brilliance and conciseness here that they display on albums like Bee Thousand, but they're buried underneath layers and layers of just pointless little noodly bits. Songs like "Pendulum" and "How Loft I Am?" are pretty cool, but even in their 2 minutes they have motifs that I can't get behind, and the album as a whole is just far too uneven to be engaging.

0.5+

My Bloody Valentine - Feed Me With Your Kiss (1988)
>shoegaze, noise pop, dream pop

MBV's noisiest, without a doubt, but they trade a lot of their characteristic dreaminess and cool melodies underneath the noise for just plain ol' punky noise stuff. The title track is great, and the closer's cool vibes don't fall too far behind, but I can't get behind the other two tracks all too much. They're okay, but not anything special, and "Emptiness Inside" even kinda grates a bit.

2.5-

>>65886095

The debut is original material from the 70s while the Redux is just different versions of RFTT/Pere Ubu songs rerecorded a few years ago with different lineup that (at least for me) lack the undirected energy/youthfulness/angst of the original versions. Garage Rock by dudes in their 60s feels a bit weird for me, the angsty atmosphere doesn't work quite so well. I saw Pere Ubu live 2 times and enjoyed their modern stuff more than the old material. But maybe it's just me, I see it's kinda highly rated on rym
>>
>>65887165
Final Solution was incredible as a closer when I saw them the last time though
>>
>>65887165
Hmm, that doesn't sound too good, but we'll see, Jangle seems to like the album
>I saw Pere Ubu live 2 times and enjoyed their modern stuff more than the old material. But maybe it's just me, I see it's kinda highly rated on rym
Neat! Carnival of Souls was really good, but I usually prefer the sound of their earlier albums
>>
>>65886321
??? when did you review alan lee?
>>
>>65887351
Yeah me too, Carnival didn't impress me that much either but Lady from Shanghai was pretty good imo.
Redux isn't even bad, it's just nothing special for me. But have fun anyway!

Anyone here familiar with Sayat Nova? I've been watching this movie about him multiple times and it has my interest. He was a composer, but I can't find any performances of his work besides some random tracks on YouTube. Some of you are into trad so I thought it was worth asking.

Also, this movie's score is amazing. The instrumental bits are some excellent Caucus-style droning.

the homopolice- fuck entertainment
featuring beau beasley (insect warfare guitarist), the homopolice were a short lived houston noise punk group, drawing influence from The Stooges and Whitehouse.

I enjoyed this record a good amount. real filthy noise and good band. the band doesn't always move as fast as i'd like, but the noise fills it out so nicely that it's not really a hindrance to my enjoyment.
one reviewer drew a lot of parallels between The Homopolice and Brainbombs- and I definitely picked up on that. Fortunately, I can't make out these lyrics, unlike the loathsomely articulate rantings of Brainbombs.

anyway, this is fun and noisy as fuck so i'm recommending it to Whitehouse or Brainbombs fans.
The cover art is also a bunch of cops fucking.

bretty good stuff. some really fucking stellar vocals, but slower than i'd like in parts. still very heavy and enjoyable.

anco- hollandaise, again
>weird hipster shit
having heard the work prior to and following this record, it's amazing how it bridges the gap. I really like how anco's disog progresses. this is really not my favorite, but I can hear how HCTI came to be, and by extension, sung tongs and feels. Those three are my favorite era of anco. this comes close to something i'd really like, but falls short. i'm glad that it exists though, if that makes sense. without it, they mightn't have progressed into the anco I adore.

The show overall is great. I didn't care for the first half, story-wise. I got the monster-of-the-week vibe, which reminded me of shows that I didn't like.
However, the art and animation was stellar, the soundtrack was fantastic, and I knew I had to keep watching for when it got weird.
The last few episodes were incredible. People give the show a lot of shit for 25&26, and while I can understand their frustration, those episodes elevated animation to such a high form of art that was basically unprecedented until EoE came along.
One of my favorite shows next to Serial Experiments Lain.

>>65893379
Initially, I did too. I still haven't listened to a lot of /mu/-core based on a kind of kneejerk contrarianism.
I'd say it's worth it depending on what shows you're into.

If people decided on what to watch/not watch based on how tolerable the fanbase was, like eight people would probably watch anime.

And though it is a deconstruction of sorts of the mecha genre, it really isn't an "anti-nime" at all. It still has a lot of the troupes and similarities to other series before it, but does enough original stuff to stay interesting.

I'd at least say it's worth a try. It's not like it's super long or anything, just make sure you watch it in the right order.
>>
>>65893763
I mean that's fine if it's not to your taste, don't waste your time watching it. And I agree, an anime doesn't have to be serious/old/deep in order to be good.
But I find the implication that anime is anything but a short name for western animation pretty ridiculous.

Yeah starting with LTIY is pretty bad. You'll find the Fugazi sound you're looking for in their earlier material. Start with Repetition or New Plastic Ideas.
If you want their more aggressive material try Fake Train or The Future of What.
Once you listen to all their albums it provides a better context for LTIY and what they were trying to do with it, at least that's the way I see it.

Tom Waits - Frank's Wild Years (1st impressions)
For some reason this album is overlooked, and exists in the shadow of the two former and latter albums. Don't believe the memes, this album is FANTASTIC. Sounds like a mix of the self-indulgence what would develop into Bone Machine, and his earlier bar-style blues. Also sensing a bit of Genesis and british pop influence.
Highly recommended.

Particularly Small Change (my favorite) and The Heart of Saturday Night.

But he had a pretty damn good three-album streak with Mule Variations/Alice/Blood Money around the 2000s, and I think that era is sadly pretty overlooked.

> The Velvet Underground & Nico - The Velvet Underground & Nico
I can instantly see why this album is influential and its influence in pretty much all genres of rock post-1967. Sunday Morning seems like it could've come from the indie vibes of a modern day Gorillaz album, Venus In Furs is like nothing I've ever heard and most of these songs lay the base for most if not all psych rock, garage rock, punk rock and even some aspects of noise rock. Heroin is legitimately one of my favourite songs I've heard this year. The way it switches so abruptly between the "high" and the "cravings" from the slow lethargic open chord driven folk-esque stuff to the more upbeat frantic power chord driven rock is done so well that it doesn't even seem gimmicky or pretentious and the lyricism is top notch. I have no doubt if I was young at the time, this would possibly be my favourite album and speaking of context and influence this would deserve a 10. The lyricism is fantastic. Lou Reed's delivery is endearing. It pushes boundaries. However, Nico's voice is unbearable. The percussion is extremely sloppy on a lot of these cuts (understandably likely due to the recording quality). And a lot of the songs to a modern ear that seem like extremely solid garage or psychedelic rock and that's generally how I prefer to rate my music.
>>
>>65897967

> WWW - Neurobeat
Starts off very solidly with some industrial hip-hop further from Death Grips and its kin and closer to Nine Inch Nails stuff. I obviously can't understand the lyrics but from the limited google translating I did they seem to mostly focus on futility and dealing wish a harsh environment, definitely some content I can get behind. The flow is really off in the rapper's voice though. Maybe it's because of my unfamiliarity to the language but he seems to get stuck on a lot of words and doesn't always stay precisely on beat. Some of the songs can kind of languish in repetitiveness as well. Despite that, there's definitely some cool things I can get behind. The bassline of Lom is really cool, the sampling on Lexikon is badass in its subtlety and on Mic the rapper does go pretty hard over this chittering industrial beat.

Here's an interesting article on it

TL;DR: Indonesia has some pretty strict moral laws (obviously), which are tough to adhere to if you are poor. When people rebel, they get forced into reeducation, which rarely solves anything and just makes people more intense in fighting back.

There's also a Noisey documentary if you can stomach how shitty Vice is

y'all better not turn this into a brexit thread i swear to god

Close Lobsters - Foxheads Stalk This Land (1987)
>c86, jangle pop

This is shocking, I actually really enjoy a jangle pop record. There's really not much I can say about this despite the fact that it's very pleasant and melodic pop rock. It doesn't stand out, and I can't say I'd ever listen to it that often, but for what it is, it's pretty darn good. And those hooks rock.

3.0-

Sufjan Stevens - Seven Swans (2004)
>singer/songwriter, indie folk, chamber folk

I like Sufjan a fair bit (like, both musically and the fact that is is fucking /unbelievably/ hot) but this isn't doing anything for me. Everything is put together pretty nice, I like the heavy use of the banjo on here, and Stevens' voice is amazing and beautiful as always, but the songwriting talent that he shows on albums like Illinois and Carrie & Lowell is just not here. On most tracks at least, because the title track is extraordinary beautiful and "The Dress Looks Nice on You" is actually really catchy for how sparse it is, but something about this album is just very unmemorable and maudlin. I do however like when it gets more chambery and full, I've always preferred chamber pop Sufjan to sad folky Sufjan. But if you want sad folky Sufjan, you could do much better with his most recent effort than this one.

Nails - You Will Never Be One of Us (2016)
>grindcore, powerviolence

Oh fuck yeah, this is the album that I've always wanted Nails to make. It's got a few moments that are so generically "metal" it's kinda laughable, but this is one hell of a punishing 21-minute long record. And it's really interestingly structured, because the last song is like 8 minutes long, and it's one of the best metal songs I've ever heard, everything about it is just perfect. I could live without the other 9 tracks, but yanno, they serve as a good buildup for the exceptional closer. Good stuff.

Dogwander, what's your favorite kind of electronic music they play at clubs and why is it house music?
>>
>>65899802
Minimal techno but I rarely come across these.

The place I usually go to in Riga just plays early noughties mainstream hip hop and that is my thing.

I think I should try to go to some other club tonight.
>>
>>65899831
I could do with minimal techno, hip-hop not as much.

If you do and feel like it, snap a story or two, I never step foot in clubs so it's always nice to see

no person who prefers Carrie and Lowell over Seven Swans could ever hope to grasp the beauty of insect warfare
>>
>>65900022
look I'll concede with you and say that the title track of seven swans is one of his best songs
>>
>>65900039
I will concede in that I haven't even listened to insect warfare yet. This is exactly what makes me an authority on who gets to enjoy it or not.

Sorry, let me rephrase that. The money we'd send to the EU will be wasted with the rest of our national budget.
