You'll be spending at least 1k on each one, if you're trying to be entirely accurate.

Mios j-bass and azusas Mustang are fender Japan models that start around $800 before all the import fees. It won't be cheap.

Korg triton is expensive.

Ritsus Yamaha set is a signature model and discontinued i believe $1500+

honestly i don't see the obsession with guitars in terms of tone. i feel as though amps and pedals will affect tone far far more than guitars will, espeically since you can change pickups and stuff. i mean even an SSS strat will sound different than an HSS

Try different ones out.
Chords will sound and play nicer with a thin pick while picking single strings will be easier with a thicker one.

E is 9, b is 13. Ive not played it too much yet, might just change the b and g later to match the hybrid slinky gauge.

Im definitely not liking those elixir strings though.

I know this is a long shot since I don't think anyone in here actually know much about electronic and fender amps, but...

Can anyone help me out on figuring out why the reverb on my DRRI is noisy? A few things:

- It gets noisier as I increase the reverb (it's comfortably quiet at 1~4, noisy as hell at 10). The amount of noise is the same regardless of the volume of either channels;

- The noise stops if I turn the reverb all the all down or turn it off with the footswitch;

- The noise doesn't disappear if I disconnect the reverb tank, so it's not related to the tank or the cable;

- The noise isn't related to the power section. If I remove the V6 (Phase Inverter tube), essentially taking out the preamp and isolating the power amp, the noise disappears;

- The noise doesn't disappear when I remove the V3 reverb driver tube (the new NOS old I just replaced today). It's still there;

- Removing V1 or V5 does nothing;

- The noise is the same regardless of which tube I put on position V4 (reverb return tube);

- Earlier today it briefly became quiet and beautiful while I was swapping things (really just had replaced V1 with V4) and I thought that was it. But then tonight when I turned it on again the noise was back, and swapping V1 and V4 back and forth again (and with other 12AX7s) did nothing;

- Amp works perfectly besides of that. Tremolo also works great.

Any ideas? At this point I think this must be related to some capacitor in the circuit itself but I'd love to hear some ideas I can try myself.

Appreciate all the help.

Have a ton of different old records setup like that. I forget the story behind where they all came from. Got some more U2 ones, some SRV ones, some Willie Nelson ones, a few Beatles ones, some random fucking 90s country ones. They all came out of some label building that was getting torn down or something like that. Like I said I forget the story behind them.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

>>65850851
It's fucking Tweedy, man.
>>
>>65850887
Could the tank itself be faulty? Usually that noise is just a dud tube. Maybe grab a cheap JJ or Sovtek LPS and try that to check the NOS isn't faulty?
>>
>>65850966
Don't you end up with a bunch of broken strings with all that edge going on, anon?

>>65850985
As I said, the noise remains if I disconnect the tank, so it's not the tank or the cable.

Also replaced the tubes today with NOS Mullards and new Tung-Sols. Also tried ever possible combination of tubes. Can't be them.

I think I'll have better luck on reddit or forums. Thanks.

Definitely try returning it or contacting fender

Or try tdpri's amp owners club, there's a DRRi thread, lots of knowledgeable folks in there.

>>
>>65851016
It's probably still a problem in the reverb circuit if the sound is dependent on reverb volume but still present with it disconnected.

It's a fairly common issue on deluxe reverbs so a tech should be able to locate the problem easily.

Does anyone know if there is an app that will show you diagrams for various scales in alternate tunings? I browsed around for a little and couldn't find what i was looking for.

I'm in a summer program where we build our own ios app and while i was practicing guitar earlier i was really wishing i had an app similar to what i mentioned above with a built in metronome.

Alright guys, if I mostly use fuzz pedals to get my heavy distortion on, does it make more sense to get a tube combo with at least 30 Watt (to have enough headroom) or a transistor combo so I can stay clean and loud?

Hey /gg/ its my first time changing strings. I have a fender CP-100 parlour guitar and i'm not sure which strings to buy. Should i go with another set of whatever they came with or buy something else? Any recs?

Is /mu/ only about guitars or should I start a violin thread?
>>
I play the guitar, I have a problem and don't know what to do. I can't solve it by just "train more".
I can't quit the tension. my shoulder is rock hard, I move the pick from the elbow, the right wrist is locked.
the left hand movements aren't fluid neither.

I really question if I can solve this or I should quit playing the guitar.

please help.
>>
>>65853617
imo string instruments are welcome, though it would likely make more sense to start a classical instruments general or something.
>>
>>65853627
Movement should be coming from your right wrist. Do some breathing exercises and release all tension from your body. Also, getting a teacher would be good since most of the time such issues come from insecurities and worries on a psychological level.
If all else fails, weed.

The last power chords are supposed to have a low D in them, so maybe it's meant to be in Drop D. But then that would mess up the fingering in the second arpeggiated chord. Sounds like it might just be midi guitar in the intro anyway

I've played for a bit and it seems ok. This is my first wah-pedal so I do not have anything to compare to. What has disappointed me that it works and affects the sound permanently, while in pedal chain. You cannot just turn it off by pushing a button like on normal guitar. Just curious about opinion of more experienced players.

Well, for example one got an opportunity to get a good used guitar for a very good price, but the sound might be too metal or vise versa, so I think it's a good reason for an exchange.
>>
>>65854819
>it works and affects the sound permanently, while in pedal chain.
How does it do this? You can turn it off by pushing it all the way down. There is a switch beneath the "toe". Wah can be a hard effect to use but it's one of my personal favorites. Just experiment with it. Both in your playing but also where it sits in the chain
>>

LACE without a doubt. I don't mind some EMG pickups (85), but the 707/707X are average at best. The company should be happy to use almost any pickup provided your fan isn't totally nuts.

It'd work in B Standard. I played Gibson Explorers in B and A for about five years. I've gone to sevens and organising to try 27" for A for a bit.

Anything lower than A and it gets a bit much. The string gauge changes get hilariously. Needing 70 gauge string for moderate tension in A Standard.

you were the guy who played 62's on his explorer right? Maybe it's just my guitar being a cheap piece of crap but 62's just sounded horrendously bad on my guitar, went down to 13-56's because no matter what I did the 62 just wouldn't stop sounding semi muted all the time unless I hit it hard enough to make it sound sharp and buzz instead. the 56's aren't too bad at B, just have to be super light on the touch.

But that doesn't matter cause I bought the ltd ec-401b 27" inch and it's pretty great once you get used to the extra stretching. Just gotta switch the pickups cause EMG's are terrible. the 60 in the neck isn't even usable with how bad it sounds so can only use the 81 that just sounds like a muddied high gain mess.

I plan to buy this microphone, Samson Meteor - for a serious recording.

The frequency range is 20hz~20khz which is the human hearing range... i dont need to pay more for a microphone that records things they you wont even hear.

It's 16bit, and from what i've seen in a video comparing 24bit and 16bit, the difference is completely inaudible.

Basically i don't want to pay more for a microphone that offers inaudible improvements over this microphone.

>the tube/ss debacle is meaningless
No.

Tube amps react differently to your playing dynamics when set up properly. You can go from clean to overdriven sounds simple by adjusting your pick attack with a good tube amp. That's the reason they're still being used today, they're simple yet expressive, you can go from a cleanly picked passage to slashing out distorted power chords - no channel switching or pedals needed.

You don't know what the fuck you're talking about.
>>
>>65857079

I'm a repeat customer. They are definitely the go to cheap guitar. It is very difficult to find a better guitar for less than 3x the price. You can take that for what it's worth, I don't personally own any higher end guitars so maybe I've just brainwashed myself into thinking they're good... or something. Honestly though I've had my hands on plenty of nice guitars, and I do my own fretwork and setups, so I think I can tell when a guitar is good quality. I'm a repeat customer because those SX guitars have good bridges, necks, and tuners(I know, tuners). Other rondo stuff that is crazy cheap in general seems to come with lousy tuners, but SX seems to be specialized in that way.

Stuff like douglas and hadean is going to need fretwork and tuners right away(though I heard the new douglas super strat might be better), but the SX stuff you can put off a few years if you're a beginner. That doesn't apply to setup, though. Set up your guitar.

To be fair, dynamic overdrive is not the notable feature of tube amps. I mean, even an LED in series will have dynamic distortion. It's actually more noticeable since it's a single clipping stage. The primary thing tubes bring to the stage is the character of the distortion.

Dynamic distortion of tubes can usually be described as more gradual than other clipping diodes, though obviously this is just a general rule. There are solid state circuits that will distort more gradually with volume as well as less gradually.

thinking about swapping out the ds2 for a Proco Rat besides that I don't know what else to get any suggestions for Patch Cables?

I'm thinking of going HSH, is there anything unique I could do with that setup? I usually prefer to keep things simple and with the Single coil in the middle split coil sounds would be pretty much useless imo.

Might look into a sustainer or synth pickup though..

solid state amps on their own for the most, strictly speaking, don't have distortion at all. Very few people actually overdrive transistors in amps anymore. It's not a very popular sound. So it doesn't make sense to compare the distortion of tube amps and solid states by saying the tube is dynamic and the solid state is not.

The distortion in solid state amps is the same as the distortion in pedals. It works on clipping diodes. All clipping diodes will respond dynamically to how much signal they see.

I know right? 4chanx keeps fucking up my posts

Now whatcha gotta do is route out a pocket in between the bridge and neck pups and stick a strat pickup in there on a push/pull or on a 5 way selector
>>
>>65858802
yeah when the parallel fret is around the 5th-7th fret it becomes more slanted on the lower stings in the higher register, which you usually aren't reaching for anyway. it also facilitates capos and bar chords on frets closer to the nut

I'll take it one step further and tune in all tritones so I can do some brutal satan approved djent breakdowns

That's probably already been done too
>>
>>65858802
bass control is pretty useful. Are you considering any series/parallel mods? I love the sound of a parallel neck combined with a series bridge or a hot single coil. Just seems to mix better than most bridge + neck combinations.

Time to mod my telecaster pickup.

I will be adding a third lead for a separate ground wire to this chinese weirdness.
>>
>>65859051
I'm not the green strat guy, but so far I'm planning a bass contour, parrallel/series switch, replacing the tone knob, and a killswitch.
I'm not sure whether I should go for shitloads of buttons so I get everything, or make it more simple but easier to use when playing.

>>65859133
sounds like a single coil with the tone knob slightly rolled back.
>>
Jazzmasters should fit in a strat/tele gig bag right? Sorry for the stupid question
>>
>>65859696
Master series/parallel? That's what I'm doing. I'm being pretty concise with my options, at least I think so. I've got an on/off for each pickup, a phase for the neck pickup, and split north/parallel/series/split south for the humbucker. With HSH putting all that stuff on both humbuckers would be a pain, though. I'm not sure what would be simpler, but I think that there's lots of wiring schemes that can do a lot without being difficult to use.

This mod is seeming easier than I thought. I didn't quite get the wire off, but for some reason I thought a tele bridge would require some disassembly to separate.

Yes

If you really wanna make sure, post the bag here.

There's no reason it shouldn't unless it's shaped funny or padded weird
>>
I'll add some electrical tape and be done. This was really easy.
>>
>>65860005
Well yeah it's a simple design, what'd you expect?
>>
>>65859859
Probably, but I don't use the neck humbucker much, it's too muddy. I don't really need much more variety anyway, I already get around most of the time with my single coil and bridge pickup.
>>
>>65850879
Just buy a pos bass honestly. If you don't know how to play it doesn't matter if the tone is perfect. Once you get better you can always upgrade. Don't go spending 600$ on a bass that you can't even fucking play.

Ok, thanks. Probably won't be putting it to too much use anyway but it looks nice and is great to have of course.

The coil lead might have been directly soldered to the base plate. I would have to be a lot more careful dealing with that.

Here's how the wire is grounded to my cavity.
