really accomplished, high-energy grind. recommended above most others.

bjork- tri angle records DJ set
>dj set
bjork is a great DJ with great taste in music and has a couple of totally unbelievable mixes in this set

doddodo- sample bitch story
>experimental hip-hop, instrumental hip-hop
noise and industrial influenced, this is some really freaky good beats. curious samples like children's toys and screaming, but it's not really dark.

>Aporea - Na Rekah Vavilonskih

This album's best quality is it's ability to create an atmosphere. In the 19 minutes I spent listening to Na Rekah Vavilonskih, I was totally immersed in to it's dark and creepy sounds. The dark chants, haunting bells, and the overall mood of the release were quite well done. The only criticism I could really give the album is that of it's brevity, but I'm honestly unsure if that even is a criticism. Would the quality of this short release be able to sustain itself for a full album's length? I can't really decide on a definitive answer. As it stands, a brief, but impactful collection of haunting Yugoslavian sounds that I can see myself coming back to.

the opener immediately got my attention, and became an instant favorite. I also really enjoyed the track at 12 minutes in, it sounds like a horror movie, but it's a sample from some chilean trad album, and then it goes in to some freaky haxan cloak goodness (iirc).

also was surprised and hyped by the inclusion of Death Grips

> Hooverphonic - A New Stereophonic Sound Spectacular

Do not enjoy this. Lacked any edge that my favourite Trip Hop usually has and while I don't detest the more dreamy night-time variety, there was nothing here to get too interested in. The tracks meandered along without ever hooking me in and I never noticed anything really intriguing going on. Passable for sure but I just didn't enjoy it.

I think I've already listened to V:D:C 4 or 5 times though. Its crazy excellent.

Björk- Family Tree
>Pop, 2002

first of all, this is the most curious release i've ever owned. 6 discs, the first 5 of which are mini CDs (same size as GameCube discs).
second, the content.
discs 1 & 2 are titled Roots- the roots of the tree, and of Björk's career. here are rarities- A couple of Sugarcubes cuts sang in Icelandic, a couple where she sings with the Elgar sisters, and some alternate takes of famous tunes.
disc 3 is titled Beats, and has some really energized remixes.
discs 4 & 5 are titled Strings, and feature string instrument and vocal only versions of many songs, my favorite of which are The Anchor Song, Bachelorette, Possibly Maybe, and to my surprise, a duet version of I've Seen It All featuring Thom Yorke.
disc 6 is Björk's hand-selected greatest hits, which offers nothing new, but is a really good collection.

I have been listening to this for about a week now, and I am loving it. I recommend it to all the Björk fans ITT.

Sorry to repost, but this got no attention in the last thread because of that Sgt Pepper thing that was going on.
I did a 6:40 guitar piece inspired by Keiji Haino and similar musicians. The recording quality is LRD-tier because it was done on my iphone, but I'd really appreciate it if anybody could give feedback, so I can find out if I'm going in a good direction. Thanks

Hello ! Time to start clearing my 2016 backlog

>Swans - The Glowing Man
I was not disappointed at all. This requires more listens but I think I like it more than TBK and a bit less than The Seer. Cloud of Unknowing is unreal, probably the best track they ever made imo. The title track is also fantastic. I loved the bits of piano here and there and my favourite thing is how Chris Pravdica's bass cuts through the mix in a very effective way.
9/10

>Vektor - Terminal Redux
This does not fuck around at all. I was afraid of the Technical Thrash Metal tag but wow this is so enjoyable. It's length can be intimidating but it never ever loses its steam. The riffs are extremely effective and I could spot bits of black metal in some places (the end of Cygnus Terminal sounds a bit like Sunbather). The ballad song was surprising and to be frank, I didn't like it. I keep getting back to this album and i'm getting really obsessed by it.
8/10

>Erlend Apneseth Trio - Det andre rommet
On Det andre rommet, the trio of hardanger fiddle, guitar and percussion, helped by electronics, takes us to a wonderful and intriguing journey to the folklore. The improvisation takes them to folk imitation or even to some kind of post-rock (Magma). The screeching sound of the fiddle is beautiful and extremely soothing. A lot of times, it sounds like the soundtrack to LOTR in more subdued. It's a magical album, it takes you to the woods, to the small villages, it's one of the most naturalistic music I've heard.

>Trondheim Jazz Orchestra, Kim Myhr & Jenny Hval - In the End His Voice Will Be the Sound of Paper
This album is perfect for me. Jenny Hval's voice is even more charming than on her last album. I'm a sucker for the harp and the 12 strings guitar. The always creative and busy instrumentation is fantastic. To me, the music sounded like it progressed on a thin and fragile string.
8/10

>Nails - You Will Never Be One of Us
On their longest album so far, Nails continue to play one of the most brutal and effective metal out there. This album is a real blast, there's barely even room to breathe. I personnally prefer Nails when they play in the slower, sludgier territory. Unfortunately, such moments are only found on the most impressive 8 minutes final track, clearly the highlight here.
7/10

>Kaada/Patton - Bacteria Cult
I think I listened to this because deep inside I still like Patton. I don't really what they're trying to do. I think it's supposed to sound like a movie soundtrack but what's the point? The way vocals are mixed makes them completely devoid of strenght. For most of the songs, the instrumentation is passionless and lacks any kind of dynamic. Some tracks are passable (namely the western spaghetti inspired second track) the rest is a chore.

Overall it is a bit comfusing but I'd believe everything was done on the spot, following an original drive and intention rather than planned and timedd. And it sort of shows, especially in the way some elements stick out as unplanned bits that happened due to everything not being completely under control and the gear sometimes biting you back when you unleash it to bite the listener's ear.
there are a couple good spots where the loudness reaches its purpose and the harsh sound finds some expressivity but it's a little too unconsistent.
My two cents.
Keep in mind I'm nto the biggest Haino enthusiast either.

>Wipers - Is This Real?
Pretty fantastic blurring between Punk and Post punk. Passionate, hard hitting, dark, and damn catchy. Very few down moments.
9

>Sparklehorse - It's a Wonderful Life
Some of the best slowcore I've ever heard. "Bittersweet" is a great descriptor on this. The last few tracks minus "Comfort Me" aren't as great as the rest, and that secret-track-after-a-break-of-silence shit is the worst shit ever.
8

>Om - Advaitic Songs
Repetitive and drone-filled, this was really hypnotic and great. Stoner shit with what seems like middle-eastern influences.
8

>Oxbow - An Evil Heat
Loved the noisier moments, but it begged for better mixing and flow choices. For example, apparently Jarboe is on song two, but you can barely hear it because she's mixed so far behind the other instruments. Last song was about 25 minutes too long, but a pretty satisfying listen nonetheless.
7

>Sleater-Kinney - Dig Me Out
Some pretty passionnate songs, and while the vocals may not be everyone's cup of tea, I didn't really mind them at all. Just kinda looses steam after track four.
6

>Aпopєa - Ha pєкaхъ Baвл҃нcкыхъ
da hek
4

>This Town Needs Guns - Animals
Math rock that's pretty much just Death Cab for Cutie with better drumming and uncommon time signatures.
4

>Whitney - Light Upon the Lake
Thought I was gonna hate this and it was going to be very generic indieshit. But I only disliked this and it was only somewhat generic. Trumpet parts were pretty refreshing, and I enjoyed the first track a bit. Other than that, it was pretty boring.
4

>James Ferraro - Human Story 3
It's a ringtone/car commercial in album form
3

>The Breeders - Last Splash
Just plain 'ol bad alt rock that's completely unappealing to me. Some kind of interesting noise moments, but other than that this had nothing to offer me.
3

>Hampus Grönvall - Magenta Circuit
Hampus records low frequency drone while eating a bag of chips.

So yeah, this is my first time hearing a lot of these albums.

>Swans - Filth
Songwriting? What songwriting?

Impressively savage and raw in every way, but the lyrics are sometimes almost comical in their graphic description and repetitive, minimal nature. I don't think I need to speak much more to Gira's lyrical style. It's plenty infamous. The guitar sounds on this thing are wicked cool though.

With the exception of the 1 minute tape manipulation-oriented piece in the middle of the album, every track here has a compelling live atmosphere. It sounds like a lot was captured on the first take and with a very limited number of microphones (I’m not sure Gira has his own dedicated mic half the time).

The drum sound on here is fantastic, and it only gets better on subsequent albums as Gira adds metal tables and trash cans to his percussion inventory.

The guitar sound on “Gang” is remarkably similar to Kevin Sheild’s shoegaze vacuum cleaner’s, but on Gang is sounds like it’s motor is sputtering, wholey unable to produce a sustained note longer than two seconds. A fantastic song nonetheless and a fantastic example of the exemplary unique guitar work across this album.
>8/10

>Swans - Cop
Here Gira dispels any notions of songwriting competency with eight 5-6 minute monotonous death chants.

The first half brandishes some really cool guitar sounds, but the magic wears thin by the second. Speaking of guitar sounds, this album actually sounds pretty heavy metal. Is that just me? Like, obviously there are elements of punk fused in there, but I felt Swans somehow had a more unique sound on the previous album.

>Swans - Young God EP
More really cool guitar sounds here, especially on "Raping a Slave" with those Rhys Chatham-esque stabs and the echoing guitar wank in the background. I have to say, though, I'm getting very bored of the early Swans aesthetic of monotonous droning noise rock.

I enjoy how low in the mix Gira is on this EP. Not because he's a terrible vocalist or anything--he's actually fantastic--but his position makes his vocals sound even more sinister. I also love the echoing of his vocals, presumably an effect of recording local.

The last two tracks are much of the same, but even more monotonous and ridiculous than usual. Gira's lyrics usually devolve into unintelligible bellowing and moaning by each song's end.
>5/10

>Swans - Children of God
Woah, I skip a few albums and all of a sudden they're a completely different band. Jarboe's influence is obvious, and the band actually covers a range of styles and moods this time (albeit the range spans from 'nihilistic fury' to 'vaguely hopeful but mostly depressed'). And do some of these songs actually display... progression? Gira still defers to the same monotonous intonations, drum beating, and guitar droning, but many songs move beyond that and feature at least one or two major shifts in sound.

It's definitely a more polished effort, so this album sacrifices a lot of the raw noisiness of their previous works for symphonic orchestration and haunting dirge-y melodies. I'm glad they changed their sound so though, because I don't think I could take any more of Filth and Cop's loud monotony. (I say that now, but after hearing the next two albums...)

I particularly enjoyed "Our Love Lies" but many of the songs were pretty great. The entire album may have stretched on a little too long.
>7/10
>>
>Swans - White Light from the Mouth of Infinity
Much more cleanly produced, but it makes up for the lack of instrumental depth and noise in vast overwrought arrangements. I have long maintained that symphonic rock is typically done in poor taste, and here is no exception (the exceptions are numbered and often more readily classifiable as post-rock). Gira further hones his songwriting abilities here, and the song structures are more dynamic and interesting than ever, but I can't help but already miss the savage minimalism of prior records.

It's more than a bit disappointing to hear a clearly more commercial sound. The drums on some songs are remarkably flat, a far cry from a time when Gira would hammer metal tables for extra drum punch. All the extra ornamental insrtrumentation doesn't really make up for the loss of noisiness. From the sound of it, it seems like a lot of the instrumentation was added in production, too, as opposed to earlier works where everything was so obviously in the same cavern. Every recording sounded live.

In hindsight, this album is a transitionary moment in Michael Gira's quickly maturing career. In the scope of the Swans discography, this album is probably safely filler.
>4/10

>Swans - Love of Life
It's probably not a good sign that I found the interlude tracks to be more interesting than any of the 3-6 minute songs, but regardless, a welcome addition. Also, despite the continued use of extra orchestration, it appears Gira figured out how to bring a bit of the old punch back, a very welcome addition. Jarboe also seems to be improving her singing, in the few times she shows up in the tracklist.

Gira seems to be running out of ideas here, if it wasn't already obvious on the last album. The (new found) songwriting doesn't produce much of note, and the lyrical themes Gira leans on like a crutch have long grown stale. Not one of these songs is particularly memorable, unlike the sound collages packed between them.

The last such collage in particular is unforgettably disturbing. The song following, "No Cure for the Lonely," is also probably the best post-CoG song from Swans so far, and it's acoustic! Best lyrics of any Swans song too, period.

Long, gushing review incoming...

>Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
I have always been meaning to listen to this album but always the 2 hour 20 minute runtime was either intimidatingly or prohibitively long. Finally gave this a good listen and a half today, and it’s really extraordinary, even amongst other amazing albums in the Swans discography.

Soundtracks for the Blind marks the ending point of Michael Gira’s metamorphosis from live-recorded no wave sonic terrorist caterpillar to beautiful studio layered post rock-composing master butterfly. The road was certainly rocky, but the end result is totally worth it.

The tracks here are individually collages of field recordings, tape loops, musique concrete in various forms, no wave madness, and post rock brilliance. Together, however, they form one larger collage, spanning nearly the entirety of the Swans catalog. Gira finally manages to wrangle together the gutted rawness of his former work with the depressed symphonies of his latter. But that’s only part of the album. The vast majority of the album is new territory entirely for Gira, and he navigates it swimmingly. These sound collages are the most interesting pieces out of Swans in many years prior, and possibly the remaining years since.

It’d be impossible to discuss every track on here in the detail each demands (it would appear Gira poured a lot of attention into every minute of this behemoth) so I’ll gloss over the highlights.

The 16 minute long “Helpless Child” brings some of Gira’s best lyrical work yet, (actually, the entire album, Gira consistently delivers amazing lyrics and singing) just as expressive and demented as expected, before breaking into a long-building post rock crescendo of buzzing keyboards, Glenn Branca-esque wailing guitars, and massive drumming.

“Yum-Yab Killers” is a fun no wave romp by Jarboe with stop-start guitars and methodic drumming. A live recording, I do not know from when.

After the ghostly and aptly-titled “The Beautiful Days” is “Volcano,” a surprise techno track by Jarboe. The track is underlined by a sharp drone, punctuated by random bits of dada debris, and topped with light, breezy Jarboe vocals. Of all the odd tracks out in this incredibly varied tracklist, this one is probably the oddest and farthest out. I can’t say I don’t like it.

“How They Suffer” is supposedly recordings of Gira’s parents talking, and his father’s story of how his blindness progresses lends the album its name. It’s nice to think that the album is probably dedicated to Mr. Gira Sr. in a way.

“The Sound” is the purest example of post rock crescendo here, and it’s simultaneously violent and serene, basking in both atonal noise walls and melodic progressions.

“Hypo girl” is a demented Jarboe track with a sickeningly twisted vocal performance and equally spooky lyrics over a strummed guitar and eerie whining drone.

“I Love You This Much” is a wacky sound collage that dissolves into not-so-harsh noise, and no long after is the cathartic “Fan’s Lament,” Gira softly lambently singing over vibrant guitars and odd tape loops (I suspect Gira’s vocals here are also looped).

Soon after that is the 13 minute track “The Final Sacrifice” and is actually somewhat underwhelming, especially compared to the other lengthy pieces here. It does wind down the album nicely though, even though it does take its sweet time.

“Surrogate 2” on the first album and the second album’s closer, “Surrogate Drone” are stunning buzzing drone pieces. Surrogate 2 contains what sounds like a recording of a train barreling past, looped and distorted, but it could be another live recording from a concert. That would be one of two times a train sample pops up on this album, which makes me doubt the originality of F#A# a bit. The drone timbre kind of remind me of Ayahuasca’s. Surrogate Drone makes for an amazing closer, rounding out a thrilling album and my definitive highlight of the greater Gira discography.

ooh boy got some making up to do

British Murder Boys - British Murder Boys (2015)
>industrial techno

I'm definitely feeling British Murder Boys', but I'd be a liar if i said this isn't one of the repetitive comps of all time. The good thing is that 70 minutes of this stuff is absolutely hypnotic, but it does start grating by the end. Still, nice little noise flourishes and cool samples keep things fresh, and the pulsating, industrial sound is pretty wonderful.

3.0-

Various Artists - Prison Songs: Historical Recordings from Parchman Farm 1947-48, Vol. 1 - Murderous Home (1997)
>work songs, field recordings

From a historical perspective, it's totally amazing and harrowing, and the raw emotion in the vocals is something to behold, but it's just not very enjoyable to listen to. You guys get what I'm saying? Like it's so historically interesting, and there's obviously so much passion, but I can't bring myself to listen to field hollers for 50 minutes and get the enjoyment out of it that I'd get out of normal music. But still, those voices are just incredible. And the interviews are really interesting

A conflicted 3.0-

The Martian - LBH - 6251876: A Red Planet Compilation (1999)
>detroit techno

Detroit techno is the happiest music on this entire planet, I'm fully convinced about that. Every synth line on this comp, every rollicking beat, it just screams happy fun party times. Unlike other detroit techno releases I like, however, it does get kinda corny and cheesy at times, and certain tracks overstay their welcome, but this is definitely a fun as hell record.

>>
Queen - A Night at the Opera (1975)
>hard rock, art rock

I'm gonna be going through a bunch of older classic rock albums I've never heard in whole for a bit, and so far I'm not sure I'm content with that decision. Of course I've heard some tracks of this album before, "Bohemian Rhapsody" is possibly the most overplayed song of all time, and "You're My Best Friend" ain't too far behind. I'll have to give "Bohemian Rhapsody" credit, I still do kinda like it to this day, it's got a lot of cool melodies and the different sections of the song are put together very well. I'm sick of it, but not enough that I can't at least appreciate it. The only other track I like here is "'39", which is actually a really great little psych folk tune. And the rest is hot, cheesy, sometimes """epic""" garbage. I didn't realize how much of this albums length is taken up by the dumb little tuneless music hall songs. I seem to compare artists to Sparks a lot, but these songs are like Sparks without a hundreth of the wonderful songwriting and eclectic instrumentation, they're just boring and goofy. And when they get proggy, like on "The Prophet's Song", it's just too much, it's prog excess taken to the extreme. "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "'39" are good songs, I can't get behind the rest at /all/.

0.5+

Beat Happening - You Turn Me On (1992)
>twee pop, lo-fi indie

This, however, I can most certainly get into. I like Beat Happening's first two records a fair bit (the fact that they both have a 3.46 average rating on RYM is one of the greatest crimes on that site), and this is the style of those two albums taken to it's logical extreme. Like, fuck, their first two records ran about 23 minutes each and consisted of short, 3 minutes max pop ditties, this 45 minute long album is a behemoth in comparison, 3 tracks run over 6 minutes and one song is nearly 10 minutes song. That song is "Godsend", which is honestly one of the best indie rock songs I've ever heard, it's so amazing...

...and "Teenage Caveman" and "Hey Day" aren't too far behind, just perfectly crafted pieces of pop. The rest does kinda pale, "Pinebox Derby" and the title track don't do too much for me, and honestly a lot of this is very samey, but this is just a rock-solid album.

3.0+, very close to a 3.5 though.

Eh it has some of the better tracks but it doesn't really compare to the whole experience. In my opinion it's his best non-aphex output and is worth getting through, especially if you like the acidic stuff.

SC as in his huuuge soundcloud dump. For that it's really best to get some compilation, maybe someone on watmm forums made something, I'm not sure. >Bears and You - Yearbook
Friend of a friends EP, they classify it as bedroom pop but that's not what it is at all. Much closer to ambient with a vague "electronic" tag thrown over it. There's singing on the first and last track, he brings a guest on for the former and it's good, he does it himself for the later and it's... not AS good, we'll say. "A Congratulatory Letter to the Arsonist Who Burned Down My Apartment Complex" is either the best or worst song title of the year, depending on my mood. I really like the cover art as well. Pretty solid, hopefully whatever's next doesn't take another 3 years. 3.0+

>Matt Elliott - Drinking Songs
I like it, but I don't love it yet. Shit like C. F. Bundy and The Kursk is/are just perfect, but then tracks like The Guilty Party and A Waste of Blood kinda drifted past me on this first go. The Maid We Messed is awesome, not technically part of the album proper but I think it's a great closer. Gonna give it a couple more listens for sure, might do a more fleshed out and coherent "review" then. 3.5

also listened to a lot of really grim shit today (Buyer's Market, title track of Bird Seed, the Jonestown death tape), but I don't think that's worth talking about, half because there's not much to say that hasn't already been said, half because it's really late and I'd rather not unnerve myself rn

>Charles Mingus - The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady

I don't know nearly enough about Jazz to articulate why this record is good, but I'll try and explain why I enjoyed it. And I enjoyed it a lot. This was fun, a lot more fun than other jazz I've heard and seemed to be much more looser in its overall delivery. Mingus' bass cuts right through the rest of the track and lays the framework for some stellar musicianship that sounds hectic, and fun and at the same time tight and catchy. Its textured, it builds and it somehow gets you nodding your head and tapping your foot to discord and off rhythms. Awesome. Might go up as I delve further into the genre.

>Drive Like Jehu – Drive Like Jehu

There is a lot of emotional tension, created mostly by the melodies: they obviously are sometimes dissonant, angular, sharp, but are also surprisingly pained, aggressive, sincere, and, why not, beautiful.
The post-hardcore influence is very strong and present, that’s why the songs are moving, energetic and pretty catchy too.

Of course with an average performance this record wouldn’t be as powerful as it is, but it also would be very boring without the incredibly spot-on orchestration: the interlocking melodies and (mostly) dissonant harmonies make the aggressively rhythmic parts stand out even more, and create really hard hitting crescendos too.

Even with all these elements that would make an average punk release memorable, they also preferred to take the progressive route over the simple one: the songs are multi-sectioned as hell, with constant changes in melodies, pace, rhythm. They also managed to alternate very different parts to deliver even more hard-hitting moments. Despite with all of this madness, this record remains pretty accessible, because of the rawness that permeates every single note.

You can experiment a lot with these premises, and Drive Like Jehu did exactly that, just look at the destructive and catchy as hell “Spikes To You”, or at the almost hardcore punk “Atom Jack”, or maybe even at the melodic chorus of “Step On Chameleon”. Also honorable mentions to the drums in “Turn it Off”.

8.5/10

>Drive Like Jehu – Yank Crime

On this record, Drive Like Jehu’s music becomes even more personal and unique, evolving from a raw, technical form of post-hardcore to a headache-inducing, dense, dissonant and abstract type of math rock. Yeah, it’s a lot less accessible than their debut.
The songwriting matures even more, and while it still maintains some distinctive features, like the rhythmic complexity and the wide, sharp harmonies, it also shows a lot of new arrangements and improvements. The melodies feel more cohesive, despite not giving up their dissonance and sharpness, the songs feature more movements and are a lot longer. There are a lot more crescendos, filled with tension and based on repetition; a pretty simple concept, but it really works effectively.
Don’t think that this new complex songwriting makes the tracks less powerful: not only this album is always engaging and hard hitting, both physically and emotionally, but also is full of great moments and “hooks”. I mean, you can really hear that Froberg puts heart and soul in “LUAU”, “Here Come the Rome Plows” and “Do You Compute?”, for example.

The performance is, once again, perfectly on spot, and Mark Trombino gets to shows off his really impressive drumming, which is a good thing.

I have to say that I still don’t feel like I have fully digested this record, even if I listened to it 3 times now and counting; despite being pretty different from their self-titled, is still comparable in quality, because both are really well written, amazingly performed records, each one with its own unique style.

8.5/10

Also “Bullet Train To Vegas” fuses melody and harshness incredibly well, and “Hand Over Fist” is possibly their punkiest song, so yeah, I like those as well.

Were DLJ a big influence on Nirvana? Because I listened to Yank Crime and it sounded really quite similar to me.
>>
>>65855430
it's not on Kurt's favorite albums list, but knowing his taste, it's not that unlikely
>>
>>65855430
All of Nirvana's albums are from before Yank Crime was released. They did probably have a lot of similar influences though, and they were probably around in some of the same circles, so some kind of mutual influence is possible.

Sonic Youth - Murray Street
Really bright, shimmery guitars, clean bass, you'd swear they were actually using conventional tuning as well
Liked the longer tracks from this one, Karen Revisited is a heap better than regular Karen, but I didn't like Goo all that much
Sympathy for Strawberry is also a really great track, although the vocals leave a little to be desired
Apparently Jim O'Rourke was part of Sonic Youth at this time as well, huh

Mazinga Phaser - Cruising in the Neon Glories of the New American Night
Really great jammy shoegaze, warm, muffled bass guitar, drums that cut through the haze like a hot knife through butter and phasered everything else
Reminds me a lot of good Bardo Pond, if Bardo Pond had more restraint...
altogether pretty good

Bongwater next, what after though?

Don't not listen to an album if it gets memed here, more likely than not it's a good album
although in recent months there's been a lot of shitposting of bad albums (Pitbull - Dale, Twentyonepilots, that one country album), so I understand the sentiment.
Also don't get butthurt if something that gets posted here is trash, life is way too short for that shit.

Bongwater - Double Bummer
Oh Man, everything about this is perfect
I understand completely why this album was delivered unto my by RNGesus, it's so much like Dante's Disneyland Inferno it's not funny
First off, it's definitely a more cohesive album than DDI, more accessible as well, although there is still a mighty strong brick wall to get over in it's length
It's everything that I like in one 2 hour long album, it's got clever lyrics, noisy bits, tender bits, jammy bits, prominent bass, "cool" guitars, that slacker aesthetic and spoken word (both samples and studio) integrated into the songs

I really like how they've just straight up plagiarized popular dad-rock, recontextualising it this really warped way, it's dank
Dank is probably the right descriptor for this album, it's so schizophrenic and strange, yet utterly listenable, it's a real trip
The album is also overtly political as well, which is a trait DDI lacks, some of the lyrics carry actual real profundity to me, it's great

Material - Memory Serves
This is exactly what I was looking for, finally something good on here. Spastic, funky basslines, lots of different genres (even within a song) that keep things interesting. But this is also the main drawback of this recording: There's just no real consistency, maybe because there seem to be a lot of different people involved. Reminds me a lot of The Golden Palominos, which is not surprising as both albums are from about the same time and even have some common members. 7/10
