not necessarily high, I've found that in general I play/perform a LOT worse when high. however, a couple beers works very nicely. not too many, because then you start playing like shit despite being very confident. but with 3 or less, you're all good nerves wise and your playing isn't hampered at all
Make music but don't tour. You won't make jack shit but you'll build up a discography in time, maybe a niche following. If you're good--and lucky--you can go die alone, penniless and diseased, then a decade or so later BAM a neo-/mu/tant posts a link to your old recordings and you finally become mildly recognized.
