nah. they've been giving the DIY/bandcamp/liberal arts college band scene higher and higher scores recently (see porches 8.3 and frankie cosmos 8.5) and not only is puberty 2 better than either of those, we've also had a significantly delayed review for an album from a pretty minor artist and she's pretty unique for the scene (a bit noisier, Japanese american, songs about identity)

There definitely is something to this. I've noticed that this year they've been a little more set on promoting newer artists rather than pushing the older breed. Which makes sense, the current roster of p4kcore the last few years has been like Sufjan, Arcade Fire, Vampire Weekend, Kanye, The National... All great artists, but certainly from the previous "generation." Pitchfork has to find the new roster of artists they're gonna love for the next decade and like it or not, shit like Mitski (who I actually really like) is a part of that.
