>>65806162
There's nothing worse in life than actually attaining one of your dreams, Anon. Just ask Jim Carrey.
>>
>>65806206
It's a bit tricky when it comes to gear. I own the guitars I've always wanted but then there's always something else I'd like to try.

I still need to get my goal amp but the current one is really good, I'll get there in a couple of years maybe. For me amps are less gear acquisition syndrome prone than guitars.
>>
>>65806518
Let me tell you where this ends: at a certain point you'll come to the realization that you're doing all of this to make music. When you reach that point you'll look around use whatever you ended up with to that end and you'll wish you'd reached that point much sooner than you actually did.

That or you'll forever be a collector shining his play-pretties like the jackass you were always destined to be.

Your electric guitar might as well be any other electric guitar as far as an audience is concerned. Once you understand that masturbating to "want" instead of practicing pragmatic "need" is a pointless waste of time you'll be on your way.

Recently got a PRS SE Custom 24 and the corner of the nut on the treble side is fairly sharp. Pretty sure it's made of plastic. Can I sand it down easily? I know the better option is to replace it with a TUSQ or bone nut or something, but I'm not the most guitar handy person and don't want to fuck it up and can't really afford to have a pro install it right now.

Thoughts?

Telecaster. Avoid the Strat. A Tele can do anything. Look into the higher-end Squier Teles

I'd suggest a mexican model instead of the Squier.

But avoid the model with two humbuckers, they tend to be noisy.

You start with Boss or Digitech. Cheap, durable, reliable. The DS-1 is a classic and can't be underestimated; I sold mine a few months ago because I thought I "didn't use it enough" and I regret it every day.

They will retail new for like $40-50 but people are always getting rid of them; you can score one for $20-25 if you're lucky

I just got a Wilson ten spot 2 for my birthday. I want to get rid of my GCB95 but it sells for so low i wont get anything for it might as well keep it.

I also possibly want to replace my Boss ds-2 and big muff pi with a Death by Audio Apocalypse.

I dont care too much for the Holy Grail either and might sell that for a better more interesting reverb... maybe a Cathedral Stereo or Mooer Shimverb.

I also have a Boss CE-1 and never tried any other choruses and wanted to know if I fell for a meme or if modern boutique pedals (i was eyeing a red witch) are just as good?

>>
>>65811120
I didn't have fun with guitars until at least like 6 months in, had fun for a while, then plateaued and stopped having fun.

It's a constant cycle of plateauing in your skill, overcoming it, having fun for a while, finding out you're not as good as you think you are then working hard to overcome your limitations. It's something you're gonna have to get used to. Start seeing the fun in learning rather than being able to play well. Overcoming that thing you couldn't do a month ago is part of what makes learning guitar so fulfilling.
>>
>>65811120
Guitar will only get more and more fun as you progress. 3 months isn't very long at all, so don't be too hard on yourself.
>>
>>65811120
3 months is basically nothing.
But it doesnt matter how long you have played for, or how good you are. You will always feel that you are not good enough.

A volume pedal does the exact same thing as the volume pot on your guitar m8, the difference is that you can choose where it goes in the signal chain. What you'd need in that situation is an attenuator that goes between the amp and the speaker.

Regardless, what amp are you talking about? The whole "you have to crank an amp for it to sound good" depends entirely on the amp in question.

>HH strat, hows it sound
better than i expected, honestly. i really like the hot output; the split coil settings are kinda weird, it's one for the outer coils and one for the inner coils, they sound good, but i would have separate push/pull pots or mustang style switches to have better control over that.
Especially since the strat switch kinda gets in the way of the right hand when you wanna get a little crazy (major downside of strat design imo)

i can post some stuff but since it came with a line 6 m9 (pulled off a trade for a korean prs) i've been kinda drowning the guitar in FX since i got it

I tried this once, it went pretty well. I was just using it as an excuse to get touchy feely, and it was going really well, good mood. You know, had her in my lap showing her the chords, explaining stuff softly in her ear. But then she kept bending her wrist too much and got annoyed at me because I wouldn't move on until she got it right. What a bitch

Any metalheads in here? Debating on a distortion pedal. My overdrive just isn't quite cutting it for my tone so I'm debating on trying to run my Hughes and Kettner into a Suhr Riot. What are some of the pedals you guys like to use?

What amp are you using? Good amp gain with an overdrive boost is optimal
>>
>>65817158

I combined it with the Pitchfork, and I play a 6 string bass in C# Standard. So I have a low G# instead of a low B....then pitchshifted down 3 octaves via the pitchfork, and then freeze. Much rumble occurs.
>>
>>65817158
Looking for something with some good note definition, biting harmonics, and a good mid/mid high end without making low end overbearing. Love a lot of stuff from Sex Machineguns, Loudness, Megadeth, and Judas Priest in terms of tonality.

>>65817244
Grandmeister 36. I've tried the ultra channel, and also tried a crunch channel with an overdrive and I just can't seem to get a really solid tone. Might be having to keep the amp at decent volumes (live with other people), might not be dialing it in very well on the pedal. Not sure which.
>>
>>65811342
I have one.
It's loud, so you are going to need to deal it in useing the volume from your guitar. At low setting its like a fuzz/distortion where you can still hear your chords. At higher setting you more distortion type of effects.
Also depending on your amp there a bit of compression.
Hope this helps.

It's another "I'm starting to lose motivation" post. Feel free to ignore it or ridicule me.
Playing bass for 1 year now, but monotone practice is starting to get to me. I also constantly see amazing bassists and what they can do, think "I want to be able to do that too!" then pick up my bass and realize how terrible I am. I'm also starting to blame other things for my failures, which us nonsense but still happens and angers me even more.

>>
>>65818782
You're always going to feel discredited and down the minute you start comparing yourself to people who have been playing years, especially people who don't have other responsibilities BUT playing and making music.

You're only a year in. Practice is awful, it's monotonous, and it's boring. It's also however what will let you become as good as you hope to be. Be honest with yourself, your progress, and your goals.

dont let the distaste of how far you come make you wnt to practrice less, because thats just counte inutiive, of course if you pick up your bass only a few times a month you wont see a gradual increase. and every guitar/bass player ever is never really satisfied with their skills

As does everyone else who tries to improve themselves usually. Know that most of us all struggle over the same shit. Christ I've improved loads over the last while and I'd make a mockery of my old self in terms of my playing, but the minute I compare myself to some amazing artist naturally I'll come across the same feelings.

There will always be a higher plateau, and so there will always be a degree to which you are dissatisfied. What's important is acknowledging that awful way of thinking, and realizing your improvements. As long as you're focusing on breaking bad habits, making good ones, and practicing you really can't beat yourself up.

A few things to keep in mind:
Don't get a floating bridge for a cheapy. They won't hold their tuning very well, break quite easily, and are way more of a pain to setup.

Play around with a bunch of different kinds. Scale length, contour and thickness of neck will feel different depending on the person's hand size and comfort. Even body shape can be a game changer (I myself can't play with large round body shapes anymore thanks to playing V's and Rhoads style guitars).

In terms of brands to look for, Ibanez, Epiphone, and LTDs are surprisingly good at low cost.

1) Yes, it's in standard tuning.

2) He's getting all the "extra notes" from a tape delay.

Here's a quick run-through of the songs riffs, skipping the second verse to go into the chorus and bridge. Remember to use a lot of slides to smooth the transition from chord to chord. You'll want to use economy picking to arpeggiate up and down each new chord in the verse riff. Hopefully it helps to hear just the guitar part on its own. My band covers this song and it can be a bit tricky because it is so rhythm-centric. Sorry for any mistakes (I know I skip around a bit in some parts).

I just switched from Ernie ball hybrid slinky (9-46) to some elixir nanowebs (10-46).

I fucking hate it so far. Sounds really acoustic-y and bassy. Also the lower strings are way easier to bend than the higher ones. Is there supposed to be this big of a difference between a 9 and a 10?

Do you think my problems will fade away as the strings wear out? Or does the nanoweb mean it won't?

I never liked elixir strings, but it is true in general that heavier strings are bassier and have a more acoustic sound. On the other hand you can get the action lower and have better dynamics. Among heavier strings, you've still go brighter and darker strings. You could try stainless steel strings, for example.

I recently picked it up since my mom has one she hasn't played in years that I can borrow. I tune my guitar in fifths and play some cello so it's pretty intuitive to me. Adjusting to the size is the hardest part.

>>65825286
They're fine. Don't pay more than $200 for one, though. They're incredibly light which a beginner would probably appreciate.
>>
>>65826103
there about 400 though? I dont mind i incredibly love the 50's look.
>>
>>65822555
I don't own one, but I've played my friend's mandolin quite a bit. It's really easy to switch to since you can look at the tuning as if the bottom 4 strings of a regular guitar were inverted - G D A E. All you need to do is flip your chord shapes upside-down and you're good to go. It's a pretty fun instrument

Literally every single band or group I've found looking for a bassist in my city writes stuff like "prior experience required", "serious project", "professional attitude" or "no beginners".
>>
>>65829300
I've played with both good and bad bassist. A bad bassist is super annoying and you have to guide him for every single fucking thing. And it doesn't really add anything, you don't have someone who'll have inspiration and help the band.
>>
>>65829365
That makes sense. There are many bass players that switched from guitar because they didn't know how to play guitar. They think you chuck root notes and be good to go :^)
>>
>>65829419
from personal experience you need two people to start a band who know what they're doing. A bassist and a singer who can play guitar. Or if you can't sing, like me, find a good guitar player who can also sing.
>>
>>65829365
Well, don't look for established groups, look at posts for jams, collaborations, etc. I know what that's like, since I live in an area with very few live venues. If a group is asking for prior experience, you can still send an email, just be up front about you skill level. You can also look for groups that don't gig that often, maybe a monthly basis. Those bands will usually be casual enough to let anyone in.
>>
>>65829435
So they write this to weed out those kinds of bassists? Or what?
I'm afraid of this: >>65829419
I really don't want to be an annoyance to an existing group or drag them down.
