at a certain point, one realizes that classifications and genre tags are pretty much useless at this point. so much of modern music falls between the lines of genres that descriptions or classifications can only be made through comparisons.

I agree entirely, but it does impede finding similar music to some degree and I only lurk /mu/ occasionally because this board is quite a mixed bag of really good music and disinfo. Could you help me to find more tracks similar to "A World of Madness" and "Along"? I have tried looking into ambient music but as you have said, some of it fits and alot of it doesn't as most modern music is a blend.

I will say this: I have found nothing that sounds remotely similar to R + 7. The only thing that comes close is Farside Virtual which isnt as neatly produced and quite a bit more chaotic and busy. Still a great album though.

R+7 is an amazing album and that's a shame that it's sound is as stand alone as it is. I'll check Farside Virtual and just keep searching and lurking, thanks for the help.

Also worth checking out Vapor Drawings by Mark Isham which OPN samples on Zebra.
OP, I don't think the three tracks you posted really have much in common, though I love all three. If you like the Silent Hill soundtrack in general you should probably check out some Angelo Badalamenti stuff like the Twin Peaks soundtrack, and Null Moon in particular is basically just a trip hop track so maybe explore that genre. There's not a whole lot that I'm familiar with that sounds much like the creepier more abstract stuff on SH2's (amazing) soundtrack.

dark ambient for the posted tracks, but that ost also has some industrial ambient, and some tracks that are almost hip hop instrumentals. i'd say the same for the opn track

Me again, actually if you like the more ambient stuff on the SH soundtrack you should check out this album.

Holy hell, thank you so much, Ghosts On Magnetic Tape I was almost exactly what I was looking for. Vapor Drawings had some tracks that were almost too upbeat for what I was looking for, but it was also great in its own right, it just satisfies a different craving by being closer to OPN than the SH tracks, I'll have to look more into Mark Isham at some point in the future.
I picked those three because I felt bad starting a thread asking for help with only a single song to contribute, I felt if I provided a few more songs that it would help you figure out what I was aiming for.

I'm going to make an effort to look into some more dark and industrial ambient music, I wasn't aware of the specific subcategories which is probably why I was having a hard time finding the music I wanted.
