VDP does have a pretty wide knowledge base of music, and his contributions to Joanna Newsoms Ys are akin to a formidably large portion of baroque compositions, in that they are correct musically, but devoid of resonance with the listener!!!

um, anon, I hate to inform you, but baroque period is usually accepted to be between 1600 - 1750.
Baroque pop is still a thing and newsom definitely qualifies for that. Wish she would write better melodically though, she's all over the place.
