but his original point was about hip hop. i mean, don't you think calling hip hop electronic music is a little generous? i love them equally, but i do have them separated in my mind for pretty big, clear reasons
>>
>>65749970
The point you numpty is there is no reason for hip hop not to be under electronic music.

Explain how hip hop isn't but The Prodigy and Groove Armada are?

>Electronic music is music that employs electronic musical instruments and electronic music technology in its production.

>>65749854

Agreed, Drink the Sea and edIT's earlier work is super nice.

>>65749854
I think this was TGM's best album stylistically. I'm glad they branched out for LDI but they should stop pandering to the aggressive EDM crowd and take their music down a couple of notches back to genuine glitch-hop.

It's entirely possible to make hip hop without electronic instruments.
>>
>>65750001
i guess i just never intended to use "electronic" as broad as it really is. i can't disagree if that definition is the foundation for this argument. by that definition, yeah, i consider hip hop electronic music, but for any other purpose, i don't see them as being very connected at all, aside from the employment of a couple of pieces of specific hardware, like samplers. and by that logic, rock music is (or can be) electronic music because you have to plug amps in.
>>
>>65750031
Yet 98% of it is electronically produced music.
>>
>>65750066
Makes the label ''''electronic music''''' retarded, huh.

Maybe people should use actual genres like techno or house like they do with hip hop and industrial.

8 albums in 40 years are an exception to the rule, 98% of the genre is electronic music.

Unless breakbeat and all its subs are no longer electronic music because of The Prodigy, Groove Armada and other breaks artists who make the music using drum kits and other instruments.
>>
to all the faggots saying MBDTF is not electronic...

what genre would you consider the instrumentals to be? probably EDM

so why does vocals added over an EDM track make it not electronic any more?

Tons of emphasis put on the vocalists. The actual music takes a back seat since overwhelmingly it's just some basic looped sample that's not out to explore the potential of the sound itself or do anything complicated.

tbqh not too much ae is as directly emotional as Rae. In a lot of songs there is a lot of emotion but it's hidden behind complex beats... over time and over several listens it'll start to make sense and you can pick out the deeper meaning of the tracks.

listen to this, it's another more direct track
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqKOISC-kd8

here's an example of a track that I think is nearly as emotional as Rae but not nearly as direct
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FXEsMMBEv7k

All of their albums are honestly fantastic, I would highly recommend going through their whole discography in order

>The Prodigy, Groove Armada and other breaks artists who make the music using drum kits and other instruments.
I'm pretty sure they were still using electronic instruments, so that's a moot point. You can't make breakbeat music without electronic instruments. Every electronic music genre requires electronic instruments in order to be made, and I have yet to see an exception to that. In this case, you're only saying that hip hop is electronic music because a lot of it is made electronically; which mean if it wasn't, then you wouldn't consider it electronic music.

My point is that it's possible to be a hip hop artist without using a single electronic instrument. You cannot have an exception to the "rule" that completely contradicts the rule in every single way.

this です
I think the main argument arises from the fact that electronic production has only recently gained more attention and so people view the means of creation as a way to lump disparate cultural sounds together. If you're going to use the definition that any music touched by a synth or a computer is electronic music you'd be hard pressed to find contemporary music that hasn't passed through a DAW somewhere down the line. I don't think it makes much sense to use this very literal interpretation because it's just not very useful and doesn't take into account the lineages of different genres.
>>
>>65754753
The only reason people know the difference between hip hop but not techno, house, breaks, trance et al is because on /mu/, any nigga under 30 making music is producing hip hop (over 30 is r&b), without that they'd be screwed.
