See image related for what needed done to bring any sort of balance to the tone - ignoring instrument balancing - this points at issues with your listening environment I'd say and if that's the case you'll need to fix that before you can use what you've learned to make any reliable decisions.

The backing track is pretty meme worthy. Sometimes you can throw shit vocals on a good beat and it won't sound half bad. Spend a little more time polishing out that track. Also, >>65737761 is right plus compression.
>>65737880
You very much need to work on composition. Your music has 0 concatenation; it just choppily jumps from one section to the next. Give up edm for a while. Try out new genres, new tempos, new time signatures, new instruments. Expand as a musician. Mixing is about a quarter of the battle.
>>65738489
You sounds feel cheap. You're trying so hard to be unique it ends up being unpleasant. Also, songwriting.

I liked it. I think from a production angle, some reverb would have helped the vox. Also, something didn't quite translate with the bass on the 808s. May want to let the producer know that in the future, distorted 808s are best paired with clean 808s, so they still carry some of the sub weight that makes them drive a system. You can low shelf the distorted ones, making a little window in the sub freqs so the clean one can sit. Together, you hopefully will get the best of both.
>>
>>65740200

It's only useful if it uses a human with experienced ears in a neutral room playing your music through gear that the human knows very well - from what I've seen of it though there is instead a bunch of analysis that is done automatically with no such listening taking place, so the one thing that you're expecting from mastering (the mastering engineer and their experience applied to your individual track's needs) is missing.

In that respect then you'd get a similar result yourself by using something like Har-Bal.

I seriously can't seem to find anything that fits this description. Everything I find either has great keys but also a bunch of useless shit or it has none of the useless shit but also has shitty keys.
I'm not looking for weighted keys or anything, but I also don't want those noisy ones that feel like they're going to break off if I play a little too hard.
>>
Recently bought a Radial JCR reamp box, so I tested it out by doing a cover of Black Sabbath's Into The Void.

https://clyp.it/jvrfqlbm#

Recorded the guitars direct into my interface, then reamped them at the studio that I work at. Recorded the bass D.I at the studio. After I reamped the guitars I found an isolated version of Ozzy's vocal so I just threw that in the track since I wasn't planning on singing anyway. The isolated vocal was pretty shitty quality so I had to do some surgery to get it sounding ok.

I'm not great at guitar so excuse any fuck ups

Is trying to recreate songs from scratch a good mixing/mastering exercise? You guys ever do that?
>>
>>65747470
If you don't just mean electronic and you're including songs with recorded instruments, yeah I've done that. I kind of did that with the Sabbath song I covered:
>>65746334

I think it's a good way to practice recording, mixing and mastering. Another great way is to get practice mixing sessions, like from Cambridge Mixing Secrets:
http://www.cambridge-mt.com/ms-mtk.htm

You can download tons of multitrack sessions for songs in a bunch of different genres.

You can also try to find unmastered versions of albums and master them. Those seem to be harder to come by than practice multitracks, but they're out there.

How does mixing, EQ and compressing works? What does it mean to cutoff high frequencies, why? And how the hell do people make music without samples on FL
>>
>>65749663
If you want a good summary of this shit Google it, I don't think anyone here can be fucked typing out all that stuff. As for the music making, synthesis.
>>
>>65749331
EQ the drum to have more attack, sounds a bit too wooly as is. I would also try some saturation on the bass, just a touch. Also try backing off the main synth in the first part after the intro.
>>
A basic why to figure out the answers to those questions would be to look up youtube tutorials for "how to EQ" or "How a compressor works".

If you want something more in depth, I suggest torrenting some lynda.com videos. Whatever audio software you plan on using, find some videos for that software on lynda.com and then torrent the ones that look interesting.
