>>
>>65722142
Yes, each pickup is very unique and useful. The middke one is... well, sonewhere between bridge and neck....tonaly as well as literally. The rythm pickup is very bassy maybe even muddy and the middle one can brighten things up when blended in, which incidentally results in hum cancelling because they are wound in reverse to each other.

I can stand a Chappers video but I'll start slapping niggas before finishing one of Tereberry. Only video that isn't cringe is one serious playthrough he did when he got a guitar. I guess it was on the terms of the maker that he should do a good ad for it.

Hi! Please help me choose.

I have to choose between a Gibson Les Paul Studio Robot for 900€ or a Gibson Les Paul Studio Satin for 600€

Please do some more research or wait till you further you're understanding before dropping that cash on a gibshit. And then maybe save up more for an actual decent one or a good knock off.

Try them out.
Not him, but those lower end satin gibsons have been some of the worst I've ever played. Terrible terrible terrible quality for the price. I'm not just exaggerating because I'm not a Gibson fan either.

And likewise, the robot shit is kinda shitty for what it's worth. Really neither of those options are good. If you were able to save up for that, you can wait longer to buy something better, or take the better route and spend your money on something worthwhile. There's no reason to limit yourself to the two, especially if you dont know much
>>
>>65726117

what do you suggest, then?
>>
>>65726131
I suggest you do some more research.
What exactly do you think want out of the guitar?

What made you choose those two? You just have to have a Les Paul style guitar? You need the Gibson logo on it?

Not that there's anything wrong with that, but it helps to know this shit

It will be my second guitar. I am a medium level player and I play on a shit guitar I get 10 years ago for less than 100€.
I love the LP style although I don't understand a shit of difference between their models, I thought I would just do fine with an Epiphone. I worked while I study so I could get one and then these two options appeared.
I have all the range of epiphones to choose but only those two les pauls because there aren't more on the second hand page. I can pay an epi price but unable to buy a les paul, so this is a great opportunity.

Friendly reminder: the kiddies who post in /gg/ threads have nearly ***zero*** experience concerning guitar. Playing, repair, new player recommendations, etc. The average age in these threads is around early 20s: green as shit grass.

If you have an actual question this is probably one of the most uninformed & least knowledgeable places you could ever expect a proper answer to come from.

Be weary of any advice given here as it's amateur & perfunctory at best.

Have a nice day.

1464813888522.jpg
223 KB, 509x509
Also, friendly side note:

Anyone posting their gear here has made a decision (either consciously or unconsciously) that playing guitar is nothing more than a meaningless hobby, something along the lines of stamp or coin collecting. Their uninformed opinions and amateur advice are firmly rooted in this unserious mindset, music being secondary to the compulsion to accumulate and publicly display their "enviable" possessions.

4chan is considered poison by most mature adults and is rightly shunned publicly for its immature, juvenile, and sometimes vile content. Lorde and the bassist from DIIV immediately spring to mind, both being heavily criticized for posting on 4chan and for their seeming willingness to be connected publicly to /mu/. No one with any real goals or aspirations would risk being contaminated with an association to this website, thus no serious musician would chance being recognized by posting their gear here. The only people who would be willing to subject themselves to this possibility would be the kind of hopeless, self-defeating troglodytes that routinely post on 4chan because they know they don't have any other options and nothing better (or more important) to do with their time. If you're posting on this site then you should be very familiar and thoroughly acquainted with this standard model 4chan user. There's no deliberate or pragmatic pursuit of knowledge or skill in these threads, just inane, unending circle jerking around gear, attention whoring, and fishing for replies.

For example: Aussiefag has been here for well over two years accomplishing absolutely nothing except for *getting some attention for himself*. The sad truth is that he has nothing else, this is his legacy: replying to other losers in /gg/ threads because his life is obviously devoid of any other social interaction.

If your goal is to wind up like this then posting gear here ad nauseum and avoiding actual musical discussion is definitely a good place to start.

Carry on.

the problem with a lot of music theory lessons on the internet is it's either the same basic bullshit being repeated over and over again (like fucking modes, every single day there's some new mode lesson being posted online), or it's crazy batshit insane jazz theory, there's not much middle ground between the two.

Not difficult.

Four humbucking pickups.

Four on/off switches, one for each pickup = 11 combinations.

plus

Four split/series/parallel switches, one for each pickup = 282 combinations.

plus

Four in/out phase switches, one for each pickup = 552 combinations, at minimum.

For additional craziness, which I have not yet calculated:

Four on/off switches, one for each pickup, which determine if the pickup is routed to the volume (parallel) or if it is shunted into the next pickup (series).

This would create every possibility between eight single coil pickups and a single octo coil pickup, with several variations in between. With these four switches the mod would have over a thousand combinations.

>>
>>65732149
You added too many possibilities for phase, since most are redundant, but really I feel like it's worth mentioning that you would get a lot more tonal variety, though less options, by not just making everything humbuckers. Both p90s and single coils have a very different construction and sound than humbuckers, unfortunately. You'd be hard-pressed to fit 4 humbuckers in most guitars, though a bass could do it.

Still, I would love to see such a guitar in action. The wiring would be somewhat complicated if you wanted to achieve all series combinations. Running for example nonconsecutive pickups in series with a pickup on in parallel in between, which you counted, is complicated.
>>
>>65732382
I got the behringer, had to return it once but the tone is killer. Pretty much THE budget bass pedal. Some people do prefer it to the sansamp for some stuff, I guess neither capture the SVT tone exactly, so each captures some part of it better than the other. The behringer one has a permanent mid notch filter, a mod can make it switchable. The notch is not too extreme and you do have a powerful EQ and headroom, so I never did the mod. Anyway, it's there for a reason, it sounds good.
>>
>>65732421
tech 21 vt bass deluxe is kinda overkill for my needs but it might be right up your alley
the programmable bddi (the one i posted) can be used as a DI or just as a programmable preamp afaik

if you want to go cheap check out the behringer one but as i said i don't trust them personally and would rather get something more reliable if it's gonna be at the core of my sound

Rec me some guitars /gg/. I finally have a chance to get a new guitar for the first time in a decade. Obviously I've been thinking about thins myself, but maybe one of you will suggest something I've not thought of. /gg/, have you found 2 guitars with the same scale length, but that string tension feels very different?

I got an Edwards LP and an ESP Eclipse, both 24 3/4 inches, but for a given string set used, the Eddy feels looser than the very same set in the ESP.
Do frets might affect that? The ABR vs tonepros bridge? The action is almost the same, slightly higher on the Eddy.
>>
>>65732471
The best solution I found to this problem was a seven way rotary which selected the wiring (eg all series, or two in parallel with one in series with them) and a three way for which pickup was placed where.

Of course, this was considering three-pickup designs.
>>
>>65732648
Yeah, plastic. A plus if you want to mod it, I guess. Has a weighted metal bottom, but the shell is plastic. So you don't have to worry about it moving around more than other pedals, anyway. I just keep it on top of my amp, I never turn it off, but I do change the settings, so I wouldn't want it on the floor.

>>65733052
First of all, the scale length might not be exactly the same. Secondly, the tension isn't exactly what can change between two guitars of the same scale, it's the amount of extra string beyond the nut and bridge, and tension/friction stopping that extra string from stretching. Basically the important difference here is that more or less this only affects bending. Both more "slack" and less can be desirable, especially because more slack is more prone to tuning issues. Not that the slack causes the tuning issues per se, but a lack of slack, particularly at the nut, can avoid needing a very slick nut.

first time i saw them was their Flood tour, then their Noise tour after that. fucking amazing band live just humongous sound and wata a cute. cant wait for their pink show. (austin niggas where you at?)

but that being said, can anyone give me some tips on getting better tone strictly in my DAW? im going for generic doom tone and currently using Logic's amp designer since it's got the sunshine stack/amp setting. this is just the first time ive really started messing with guitar tone in years on account of me just making shitty deep house the past few years.

>pic related me not knowing what im doing and stacking shit on shit
>>
>>65733087
Ooh, that does sound smart. My current project has no mixing of series and parallel, though frankly I'm not sure if it's that desirable. I imagine the most useful tone would be something like finding a good series tone that you want to add a little sweetness or jangle to, and using a single coil in parallel to help with that. It wouldn't really help with clarity in my experience, but maybe I'm wrong there. If you did get a pretty similar sound to full parallel sounds, it could be a good way to increase output without getting too muddy.

I just wouldn't expect the mud to abate. I wish I could try it out now. It's certainly interesting to explore. I have run something sort of similar, a humbucker in P and a humbucker in S, together in parallel... Not really that comparable considering the key to "that series sound" seems to be a bit of space between the pickups. In any case naturally the series humbucker overpowered the parallel one, so there wasn't much value.

What's the difference between a mode and a scale? Aren't they both just sequences of notes relative to a chord?
>>
>>65732977
I guess I'd like something that sounds a bit fuller when finger picking, and playing single notes.
I've been thinking along those lines. I like the idea of a les paul, but the ones that sound really nice clean to me are fairly rare. Most new les pauls I've tried don't really have that big chimey sound that I've heard from old ones. Maybe a pickup change is enough to fix this? Was also looking at the es-330, but they seem harder to come by in real life.

Yeah, I'm actually especially looking for recommendations with non-major brands, because I'm less likely to have considered their options already.

Hi, /gg/

I'm a half-assed guitar and bass player, but more of an electronic instrument tinkerer than musician. I built my own (shitty) bass and a few effect pedals. I've recently moved into a small apartment for a job and I had to stow away my tools and electronic components for the time being. I've recently discovered that the circuit simulator I've been using (ltspice) has a feature which allows you to load in a .wav file as a voltage source, and save the output likewise so I can hear it. Can anyone point me to or provide some simple, short, clean electric guitar and bass clips so I can continue mucking around despite not having the ability to build any physical circuits?

It's not complicated at all and I don't know how it even seems that way. you can adjust the saddles in 2 dimensions - vertical and horizontal. vertical raises/lowers the action. horizontal increases/decreases the length of the string from nut to bridge, which affects intonation. the exact middle of the string is the 1 octave harmonic - you want that to be exactly in tune with the note you get when fretting the 12th fret on that string. if the note from 12th fret is lower than the harmonic, the string is too long, so shorten it. and vice versa. the vertical dimension is even easier. if it buzzes or you want it higher, raise it up, if you want it lower and it's not buzzing, then lower it. of course, you could pay your hard earned money to a 16 year old GC employee to understand this paragraph for you, but consider the implications that would have on your status as an intelligent human being and maybe just experiment. the absolute worst possible outcome is that your strings are too high and your notes are out of tune, in which case, reread from the top. cheers

so I guess this falls under projects.

It's one of a pair of acoustic guitars I designed and am building
-double cutaway
-approx dreadnought size
-24 fret, 25" scale with 10" fretboard radius
-the hardware: schaller locking tuners, pickups will be d-tar wavelength load n lock for concert version and k&k sound trinity mini for the studio version with plans to install a 9v easy insert compartment for ease of battery changes, schaller locking strap locks
-most specs are heavily based off of prewar martin thicknesses, although I made some considerable modifications to some of the fundamentals of the construction regarding materials and how they are used
-fretboard: cocobolo, tops: sitka spruce, back and sides: indian rosewood, bridge: brazilian rosewood (assuming my dad ever gets around to cutting me a pair of blanks), neck: african mahogany (khaya I think-cheaper and softer than true mahogany but looks nicer)
-other: tribolt neck mount for easy removal and improved lateral stability, a self designed system for neutralizing bridge tension to eliminate bellying of the top indefinitely
-planned standard case: hiscox (a test fit with the dreadnought sized case was a perfect fit which was a nice surprise)

these first 2 are prototypes and are for me and my dad who has been building some of the best electrics since the 80s (although you've never heard of him unless you were in a major 80s heavy metal band). I've actually started accumulating stuff for a pair of saleable versions at this point: tops: lutz and adirondack spruce, bridge and fretboard: ebony, probably use honduran mahogany for the necks this time, sides and backs will probably be indian rosewood again since I already have one bent side because I broke one piece trying something out on the last ones. Anybody got about $5500 they want to blow?

Looks great, and sounds like a good plan. I do object to the neck choice though. You shouldn't even worry about the appearance of the neck. Better test: swap the neck on a tele from a rosewood neck to a maple neck. No discernable difference in sound at all. The issue is 100% expectation bias. Maple necks at one point in Fender's history went on guitars with darker pickups, and the impression lasted.

no, you're right about the maple. It is a far better wood for a neck. I'm suprised its not more widely utilized in acoustics. It is quite a bit heavier though and a bit harder to find in the right dimensions. I actually used maple heel and neck blocks in the body though which actually permits a lot of transmission of energy back and forth from the neck and body. they're sort of hollowed out though to reduce mass. A lot of the wood choices were based on sustainability and availability though... my dad has always used only top end woods because he had stockpiled them. The attached is the guitar he made for me.

Your dad is based. I do agree on maple being a better choice for necks. Love how birdseye maple looks.

Fuck you and your dad; the most guitar related thing my dad ever did was pick up my guitar and strum randomly while singing a random melody to make fun of me.

the most guitar related thing my dad did for me was loan me 100 bucks to buy my first bass 10 years ago

and give me shit when i told him my pedalboard costs as much as my car

No. Purposefully. That's the point of having three single coils. You get humbuckers when they're blended.

Almost incomparable in tone, it should be easy for you to decide which you prefer.

Can you afford a Gibson ES-125tc ? Would also work well with the noise-rock stuff because of the feedback.

How to get good fast? I don't have a teacher, I just need a pointer to a good resource.

Practice Scales and changing chords with a metronome.

always play to a metronome. focus on patterns - triads up and down a scale, all 3 triad inversions up and down the scale on every string, etc. runs of 3rds in every mode in every direction. work on permutations, up up down, up down down, etc. learn how chords are built from 3rds and practice every permutation of arpeggiation. keep a notebook and write down every routine you use as well as interesting chords, riffs, melodies, whatever, that you come across. the notebook will let you discover patterns quite naturally and is an absolutely invaluable tool. fuck tab, use bass/treble clef. it's weird at first but it's the most productive notation by far.

Anyone have tab for the second solo from Electric Wizard - Electric Wizard (the song Electric Wizard from the album Electric Wizard)

If not, I'll just transcribe it

How do I go about recording my bass guitar and electrical guitar while also doing vocals? I use one of those snowball mics for my acoustic, but the sound quality is shitty. I have no clue where to start
>>
>>65741378
You want to do the vocals at the same time as recording the bass/guitar?
>>
>>65742304
That would be ideal. Although I'd be game for either way.
>>
>>65742360
You'd need a mixer and 2 mics, one for the amp and one for the vocals
>>
>>65739435
if it helps he treats me like an imbecile when working on guitars a lot. I started making the acoustic on my own independent from any input from him because of this. I've had to consistently tell him not to interfere. As long as you have patience to do research it's not that complicated. It is tedious though doing each thing with just hand tools and sandpaper blocks. If I did things his way I could probably be done everything inside of 2 weeks. As it is I've been working on it on and off for 3 years with lengthy breaks to think about the smartest way to do things with limited resources.

>>65740269
it's about 5". pretty standard depth for dreadnought. I think they are usually 4 7/8". I think most people play something like an orchestra model which is like 4 1/8". I'm probably going to do that on the next ones since I can only find honduras mahogany of about 4" depth.
>>
>>65742656
So the mics are connected to the mixer and the mixer is connected to the computer? What if i wanted to do each separately or only do the guitar?

I like Les Pauls but everyone says that you're basically paying for the name with a Gibson. What's similar and better for the money?
