Was he the last true rockstar?
>>
what are your thoughts on the decline of western civilization?
>>
>>65700467
Greg Puciato.
>>
Josh Homme t b h
>>
>>65700467

Possibly. It's difficult to think of someone else that's came after him that was so iconic and controversial in pop culture. Music quality aside.
>>
>>65700504
Kanye
>>
>>65700516
No niggers allowed
>>
>>65700516
Fair point.
>>
>>65700516

Kanye isn't "controversial". He's a pop star, nobody is attributing his music as dangerous or corrupting. He's no different to Britney spears or Justin Timberlake other than he's a bit of a joke because he says stupid shit.
>>
>>65700547
Fair point
>>
>>65700598
He's incredibly controversial. Are you retarded?
>>
Man, Manson was cool as fuck in the 90s. Spawned so many bizarre rumors
>>
>>65700630

How? Other than the Bush hates black people thing it isn't "controversial" for him to go around begging billionaires for money and going on rants when he's not given it. It isn't in the same ballpark of the controversy a guy like Eminem or even Tupac/Biggie generated.

He's attention grabbing, but his shit isn't being attributed to corrupting children or ruining society. He's just a meme.
>>
>>65700650
He does have an interesting, unique aura about him. I don't like his music much, but it brings an undeniably unique, unexplainable atmosphere to me.
>>
>>65700667
this tbqh
>>
>>65700547
I've been assigned the label of "WASP" and, yet, I still support Kanye. He's a crazy motherfucker, but, hey, his lyrics speak to people and society in general... listen to his discography from beginning to end you'll under stand where's his mentality resides from.

P.S. OP is a fag and so are you
>>
>>65700700
Cool

What about Randy Blythe?
>>
>>65700714
He's had some controversy too but most normies have no idea who that is.
>>
>>65700762
Randy Blythe is the illest motherfucker next to Lil Wayne.
>>
>>65700467

Absolutely.

Also, underrated thread.
>>
>>65700516
This
Did you see the video of crowds of people literally just following him in a car with his head out the window?
>>
>>65700516

Kanye is not a fucking rockstar. He is a walking, talking meme. No one's gonna blame him for a school shooting.
No one's gonna fucking protest before every show of his.
No parent's gonna be legitimately scared of his son/daughter for listening to him, maybe slightly annoyed.
Stop taking this hack seriously.

Trips speak the truth.
>>
>>65700516
He doesn't make rock music.
>>
>>65700999
>>65701071
Rappers are the new rockstars, get with the times grandad
>>
>>65700999
>>65701086

Did you even read the post motherfucker ? Or constantly listening to musicians with bad grammar made you illiterate ?
>>
>>65700999
rock music was only considered "dangerous" because of american suburban parents who are terrified of everything
>>
>>65700467
Maybe not the last, but he set the bar much higher for anyone similar to him to pass. His pop culture status is surrounded by his controversy/drug habits/image. You could say people like GG allin were more controversial or crazy, but people before manson never got to the success he was at. Hes pretty washed out now, but I still enjoy his 90s stuff. Thats just my shitty opinion though

Manson aside, does /mu/ think the concept of a "rockstar" is becoming extinct? Or are the larger acts nowadays just too new to know if theyll hold any pop culture significance?
>>
>>65701086

rappers are the new popstars, not the rockstars.

This is the only true answer.
>>
>>65700700
>listen to his discography from beginning to end

Hahahahhahahahaha! oh, is THAT all I need to do to see what a rock star rebel he is?

As if it should take more than a couple of songs. But then he is just another muppet producing the same sound his producer tells him to make.

Not like MOTORHEAD or anything (who always did it their own way no matter what)

fucking children

>>65700493
>Look at me guys am I tr00 yet? How many sideprojects do I have to make to escape my lack of personality?
>>
>>65701133

You mean the people who were the majority & dominated the culture at the time ? Who also happened to be biggest spenders on art-related products ?
>>
>>65701160
>>65701086
Nobody is the 'new' anything. Rappers, rock musicians, and pop stars have different levels of innovation and cultural influence in society than they did decades ago.
>>
>>65701160
>>65701233

Yeah, kinda what I meant. Rap - Hip Hop - R&B took over from pop in popularity & cultural influence, popstars are still there.
>>
>>65700504
Literally, everyone always says this shit and will never wont ever accept that Kanye is this generation's Rockstar. FUCKING JUST ACCEPT THAT ROCK HAS ALWAYS BEEN LIKE THIS.
>>
>all these butthurt rockists who can't accept the fact that Kanye is our generation's rockstar
>>
>>65701269
he's a pretty lame rockstar
>gets drunk and goes on megalomaniac twitter rants/steals microphones from women
wow what a black god!!! guy is corny as fuck.
>>
if we're judging what a rockstar is based on how edgy they are

i guess for like a year tyler the creator and odd future was like that
>>
>>65701200
I'll be honest with you. I'm the same \mu\ffin posting about LOG. As far as i can tell, your horizon is narrower than a fucking spider strand. Go wake your neighbors with the obnoxious noise you call music, you philistine. Hope you contract the black plague and look to the church of scientology for recourse.
>>
>>65700598
you honestly have no idea what you're talking about, this post is so white it hurts
