Speakers if at all possible. Headphones are a concession of courtesy to people around you.

Let's have a look at the instructions

It's exam time over here so I'm at my computer/desk all day. I usually alternate between headphones and my monitors throughout the day - album depending.

In my usual day I use earbuds on the way to and from uni, and when I get home i use monitors

This.
Really the biggest problem with speakers is that they are an order of magnitude more expensive than similar quality headphones. If you're really interested in audiophile quality, architecture of your cans or your space is just as important as anything else which makes speakers even less accessible.

Question for those who listen off their computer:

I have a really fucking old HP desktop that I'm using. Not sure of the year, but it's old enough to the point where I can't hook up an HDMI cable to it.
Everything on it is standard.

Is there a way I can hook up my little desk speakers I use for a regular stereo with a receiver? What would I need to buy to make that happen?

I have a stereo for when I wanna listen to something on purpose, but I want something nicer than these shit computer speakers for browsing around.
