If the 1001 albums I must hear are as mediocre as TVU&N, i'll pass.

I gurantee it's 99% dadrock

I don't know, give me a link to a pdf and I might try. I'm not dishing out 20-40 bucks to see a list, when there dozen other list for free. Hell the Rolling Stones list is free.

Yes, I listen to I'm up to pic related (well, Late For The Sky actually). That list also includes the Rolling Stone 500, every 33 1/3 book and every Grammy AOTY, plus recs from family and friends.

I found an RYM list of this and spent an entire lecture checking off how many I had already heard. It was somewhere around 1/3rd of the list. There are some questionable entries in the 2000s that have me convinced I'll never hear all 1001
>>65649884
There are highly questionable suggestions throughout the entire book. Combined with a ton of great albums. Which of course makes the book fucking useless considering what it was made for.
A person who doesn't know music would have no way of knowing if the recommendation is awful or extremely good. The only way to make a book like that is to choose the absolute best albums.
They managed to come up with a lot of great albums when they had 1001 chances to. Marcel could have done that when he was 10 years old. He could have done it when he was the Wizard of Geography.

>>65649584
This and don't they only go up to 2005 or something like that?
>>65652248
Really, you should listen to their albums, but ok.
Alusa Fallux - Carta Crbone
Osamu Kitajima - Masterless Samurai
Apoteosi - Prima Realta
Museo Rosenbach - Degli uomin
Premiatta Forneria Marconi - La Carrozza Di Hans
>Not that asshat btdubs.
What do you mean?
>>65652369
Was just going to listen to their songs to see what album I would listen to first.
"btdubs" is colloquial for "by the way", and asshat as in the anon that was calling obscure music pretentious.
>>65652394
Well, in my defense, those are some of the best known bands by the prog fans (with the exception of Osamu Kitajima who is indeed pretty obscure).
>>65649960
yeah but its not titled "1001 albums you should like" Its a very balanced book. Sure theres some dadrock but theres also almost every mucore album and tons of submucore too. If you go thorough this book you should a decent amount of good music regardless of your taste.
What happened to that girl who was reviewing every album in the 1001 albums list after her first listen. Pretty sure there was a thread about it

yeah, it's a good book: basically 1001 pop/rock essentials. I'd say ~15% is shit, but you have to list shit like Limp Bizkit, TLC, Scissor Sisters etc. because it was successful/influential

By that logic alien technology (assuming it exist of course) will automatically be worse than human tech, since most here (actually 100% of human population) dont know it exist.
>>65662218
So basically just a monster version of that /mu/core chart?
>>65650047
>fill it with whitehouse-type albums and post it on r/music
a list like that would NEED to have at least one harsh noise albums
would need to have at least one of each one of those genres or subgenres.
grindcore
minimalism (talking about phillip glass kind of stuff not glitch, minimal techo..)
lowercase
tonefield
drone doom metal
dark ambient
ambient
field recordings
onkyo
speedcore
sound collage
free jazz
>>65665008

>4kbps version of Loveless too.
On my post, I said only the genres that would need to have at least one song on the list.
But there are some stuff that arent genres that would need to be on the list.
Like one album that dont use 12 tone equal temperament.
One album that have *waves, that arent soundwaves (like plasmawave, seismic waves....) , converted to soundwaves just by assuming the graphic you have on the data you recorded is a soundwave one, without doing extra edits.
An album with just white noise, must be on the list too
>>65665301
Also non-existing albums, just randomly generate artist name, album name and year.
