Your post reminded me of the small snippet that he played at Pop Cosmos, and I was going to link that. But it turns out it leaked, and is on YT, that link is 17 hours old.

I unno, the first I heard of it was the previously mentioned 30 second video of Pop Cosmos back in May.

I mean, I totally dig CRJ's last album and I even went to go see her live and I'm white dude in my mid 20s
But it doesn't have a damn thing to do with poptimism.

>But it doesn't have a damn thing to do with poptimism.
why not?

this right here

Because I don't view music through that lens I guess? I don't particularly give a shit if a music is "pop" or whatever the hell, how successful it is etc.
I just listen to what I enjoy. I enjoy quite a bit of relatively very poppy music (especially 80s pop, synthpop etc.) CRJ's tunes just strike the right chords with me.
But it's not because I went and said "THERES NOT ENOUGH POP
MUSIC IN MY LIFE. BETTER FIND SOME TO LIKE REAL QUICK."
I guess my point is, the major point of poptimism to me appears to be to give relatively shallow, superficial music a layer of artificial depth or "credibility", which is stupid.
Just judge shit for what it is, enjoy it for what it is. Don't overthink it too much. Don't make your musical taste your "personal brand" or whatever the hell.
