Jennifer Connelly's breakout J-pop single
I came into this kind of music expecting untapped heaps of greatness, with some amazing synths/drum machines (because Japan). Actually, it was all very underwhelming. These guys made music obviously inferior to their smooth jazz contemporaries in the West, i.e. Steely Dan, ABC, smooth jazz acts like Rippingtons, Fattburger and so on.
Now it's being memed by vaporwave/futurefunk fags who unironically enjoy Yung Lean. My advice: stay away from it. It's just another local scene, meaning it's just an inferior version of the bigger scene.

Do you know any westerners who made hard bop like Nausuke Miyamoto, Hino Kikuchi, Tee and company, all the Three Blind Mice guys etc? I'm not that into american/european jazz but what I've heard is way different from the 70s/80s jap stuff.
>>65635145
Thought you were talking about Kohsuke Mine for a moment there.

Jennifer Connely made 80s j-pop? I never would have guessed.

Bump gimme some good shit
I fuck with this stuff heavy. Smoke blunts to this music instead of that young thug shit its way more lit.
Tatsuro Yamashita - Ride on Time is godly.
Yeah, it's fun. Like most popular genres it has got goods singles but also tons of really forgettable songs, but the best songs are really great I think. It's good music for hanging out with friends on a summer evening as most people can at least tolerate it and many of my friends have actually liked it when I've played it to them. Obviously at the end of the day it's "just" 80s fusion with some pop sensibilities so the distinction between Japanese and non-Japanese music might be unnecessary like >>65635045 (kind of) said, but Japanese is a nice sounding language and I'm secretly a weeb so I'm not really complaining either.
>>65635045
The good city pop songs are soooooooooo much better than that aor yacht stuff you listed. When its good, its good, but don't listen to a full album of this stuff because its full of cheese.
Anybody have a Download for this btw? https://www.discogs.com/Naoya-Matsuoka-Watermelon-Dandies/release/5743831
