By sheer fucking luck. TJR was recorded and mixed in 10 days. Whoracle almost didn't happen at all, the band spent 99% of their studio time jacking off and playing Tekken.
As far as TJR goes, it has criminally underrated production. Everything is crystal clear, guitars sound dry but in that good 90s dry way, lead guitar has the best tone for its time, by far. Anders was in his lyrical peak.

I remember eagerly awaiting ATD on its release date and being really disappointed. It had a song or two that were good but the rest was already fairly watered down.
OFS had terrible, terrible production, those forced thrashy riffs that didn't fit at all and some of the most boring songs they ever wrote (Unsung). SOTDS was a step in the right direction, especially with the Out to the Sea bonus track. But still fairly predictable record, you can tell that all the music was composed in guitar pro hence all the super symmetrical rhythmical cliches, if that makes any sense.
Also clean vocals need to go, and whispers/chanting needs to come back.

Great bass work by JM fucking sick tone makes those songs sound good.
Very calm, meditative album outside of few songs. The Cell sounds kind of like meshuggah but not as heavy weakest song of the album but nice drum work by mario.
Totally different from what they have put out to date, and as a gojira fan ill give them 8/10 Could have been better if they put some heavier tones with facemelting riffs like from older albums in there.

Yeah bass player always had a badass tone. That feel when you can only have a great presence as a short-hair bass player if you are a fucking manlet on stage.
I think they are sort of deluding themselves taht this stripped-down pretentiousness is some higher form of musical art, and that they don't get that their previous approach was far more artistic and deep because they've been doing it for too long.
I won't mind this as a one-time spin off record, but definitely want them to change things up for the next one.
