But hell, can't give this anything below 4 out of 5 stars. Is southern the way to go?
>>65626285
first, listen to everything else outkast has done
then, listen to pic related
>>65626285
Southern is absolutely the way to go.
>>65626315
This guy has good advice
Also UGK and 3 6 Mafia if we're staying in this scene.
>>65626285
if Aquemini blew you away you clearly haven't explored hip hop in any way shape or form
try danny brown xxx
>>65626315
thanks anon. should i care for the lyrics? I mean, read along and everything else. It kinda put me off because it's kinda tiring. i'm new to the genre anyway
>>65626366
>undermines aquemini
>recs danny brown
i mean i like both but cmon mane
>>65626385
I like aquemini as much as the next guy, but it's not exactly fresh musically. just surprised this was the album that killed the "hip hop is bad" meme for him
>>65626427
OutKast is pretty accessible although I would expect people to gravitate towards Stankonia or that double album they did more.
Still, not a bad place to start.
>>65626427
Aquemini still sounds fresh to me. It's not stylistically contemporary, but the lyrical references are not too set in their time, and the beats are futuristic still.
Stankonia #1
>>65626285
no, getting some fucking taste is
>>65626366
you must honestly be retarded
>>65626427
you know nothing, aquemini and ATLiens were both innovative and ppl have tried to copy the sound these days but Organized Noizes style is impossible to replicate
>>65626367
Lyrics matter, and like, Outkast is great with them. You don't need to really strain yourself to pay attention to them every listen through, but the more you can get into the wordplay the more different rap music will start to make its way into your comfort zone.
Give uh, Killer Mike - R.A.P. Music a go, it's more modern but it's crazy popular, there's a ton of hot opinions about it, it was produced by one of the better minds making instrumentals these days, and it's Atlanta (Killer Mike has been featured with Outkast before, his career didn't really hit full throttle until way later though).
Also, follow everyone else's advice and listen to more Outkast. ATLiens is 10/10 for me.

Not hating on Outkast at all but as a whole Southern rap is pretty terrible
>>65629159
They're more focused on wordplay than being "deep", but they're good at what they do imo
>>65629159
>>65629176

Yes. He's absolutely correct.
>>65629194
I love Aesop myself too tho.
How do you guys feel about Still Standing? I know we all love Black Ice, but what about the album as a whole?
>>65629149
>ATLiens is 10/10 for me
THIS
>>65629532
still standing is as underrated as the dungeon family group album
>>65629569
I love me some Even In Darkness.
Has some good fun songs like Crooked Booty and Trans DF Express.
Does Cee Lo even really rap anymore?
>>65629359
theyre no Radio 4
>>65629589
he gave chief keef a verse and the beat sounds like it was made for the shrek soundtrack https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6_Tzn_WOJTE
other than that he's still basically full-time singer which is a shame since at the height of goodie mob he was up there with the best
>>65629623
Man the 2~ seconds Cee-Lo spit brought me into the song, and then I fell out again. But yeah, I see EXACTLY what you mean.
Don't get me wrong, I think Cee Lo has a great singing voice, but man I really miss his rapping. That freestyle on Goodie Bag was fantastic.

Digable Planets were from NY and they were GOAT

Go reverse chronological order for OutKast from Stankonia to Southerplayalizdik, then check out Tribe, Bone Thugs, and De La Soul, specifically the albums Low End Theory, Midnight Marauders, People's Instinctive travels and the paths of rhyme, E.1999 Eternal, and 3 Feet High and Rising.
