Can jazz today ever be as good as it was in the 50's, 60's, and 70's? What are the best recent jazz albums and current artists?

jazz has been fucking incredible from the 50s until now

in the 21st century the guitarists are on the forefront, people like Marc Ribot, Bill Frisell, Nels Cline, and Jim O'Rourke, to be honest

but lots of great bandleaders in the whole William Parker camp

All the New York and San Francisco guys too

>>65626425
very boring selection

>>65626494
nice shitty JTG taste, plus Holland was better in the 80s and Metheny's new group is only good cause of Vu

I fucking hate retards on /mu/ who know jack shit about jazz but talk like experts

Here are some examples of 21st century jazz that isn't regressive crap

enjoy and don't listen to shitty jazz

can it? Yes
is it? Not from what i can tell. They're probably lots of great artists out there, but they're just so invisible because nobody cares about jazz anymore. It's sad, but it's true.

>>
>>65626710
lol this guy comes in every thread about jazz to complain about the fact that anybody likes artists outside of the few that he likes
>>
>>65626633
nobody was talking as an expert you fucking dickhead. I do not listen to modern jazz, and I just mentioned some of those I like and that's it. Literally kill yourself faggot

Song Sentimentale - William Parker, Brotzmann, Hamid Drake

Amaranth - Icepick (with Nate Wooley)

Kwark Kward by Kate Armitage

>>65626710
I never asked anyone to drone me, retard, I suggested they do their research

>>65626778
I almost never post on /mu/ and you are an awful reader if you thought I was complaining that people's taste differ from mine.

I havent heard any of those yet but that Allison Miller album is really solid.

I've only heard Ortiz Trio once so I'm not especially familiar with it. Lisa Hilton is kind of a joke but I think a good joke so it goes on the list.

Funny but where I'm sitting it seems like you're the only one in the thread posturing and trying to imply your views are inherently worth more than other people's
>>
>>65626338
if you think there arent any good jazz musicians out there that is jist because you are a casual listener and havent done the least bit of looking
