Yeah American Football is a big influence for my guitar playing so I can hear why you get that idea. Your material is really good man, I'm just getting into fl studio so my mixing isn't good at all but you can tell you really know your stuff.
>>65608141
Empty As I am was in fact a song I made when I heard the sample so there was more of a personal feeling to it yeah, I tried to convey that as much in my playing style, nice to hear that I actually managed to do that.
>>65608172
"like a girl who, uh..never loved you and...never will"
on point, even though its spoke, there's definitely something emotive here
>>65608213
Yeah the intonation is beautiful on that part. On a different note I want to get deeper into sampling. Where do you guys get your samples? From stems from songs or do you rip it yourself?
>>65608353
i usually take it from a youtube video that i rip the mp3 from. sometimes i'll do a quick google search, and sometimes i just sample royalty free music.

>nothing fits together at all
This is what you get for coming into a piece of music with certain rigid expectations that you need fulfilled. The logic of the piece is a kind that you've never encountered before, but it's not non-existent. You're putting forth opinions like "doesn't fit together" without ever unpacking what "fits together" or "sounds terrible" even means. The fact that you posted your final opinion after you were only a third through the piece tells me all I need to know. I don't write for people who make no attempts.

Get the fuck off my soundcloud. All the shit you repost is the least imaginative music possible. You have no idea how music works. Your criticisms AND your praise lack any substance substance; nothing you've ever done and nothing you ever will do has any importance; you've never tried anything new and you can't even figure out the source of your own opinions. you arent talented. you're the most pretentious faggot i've ever listened to and i'd rather you just didnt write music at, because you are literally no good at it. none of the time signatures sound like they match, no part is in tune with each other, the violin itself doesnt even sound like its in tune at all, your playing random notes without any musical progression or structure, putting some half-ass story behind it, and calling it "experimental" stopmaking muskc, you arent good.

You do realize all of what I wrote was based on choices that I made, right? If I wanted to write something that appealed to you - if I found that even slightly meaningful personally - I would be more than able to. But to me, this piece is what represented my own experiences and ideas at the time best.
Now you're at least trying to incorporate your 5th grade-level music theory knowledge into your argument, and you're showing off how little you actually know. "No part is in tune with each other" - it's called polytonality, and it started being incorporated into Western classical music over 100 years ago, and was around in other traditions much longer than that. There are microtones in this piece, which is why you think it sounds "out of tune," but I doubt you even know what those are. Time signatures? Are you fucking kidding me? Were you expecting a 4/4 house beat or some shit? I'm sorry, but music today has advanced past what you're capable of understanding, and you're just going to have to accept that. If I wanted to write something with what you would consider an obvious "musical progression or structure," I would, but I didn't, so just shut the fuck up and accept it rather than throwing a hissy fit on my public soundcloud page like the immature, bitter asshole that you are.
As for whether I should continue making music or stop like you think I should, I think I'll take the opinion of the judging panels of the national competitions I've won and the professional composers I'm learning from over yours, but thanks for trying.

Screamed power electronics vocals would work pretty well. I really like the sounds you're getting here, very interesting noise. Also just try screaming out words and maybe chop and screw your improv into the song? stuff like that's always interesting and it could work well with the glitchy nature of your stuff.
>>65598268
Your voice is weird and at first i didn't know if I liked it, but there's something really appealing about it. It's kinda like emo vocals. I really like the synth that comes in, really cool sounds there, I think the guitar could be a little more dominating in the mix or maybe more reverbed and should overpower the vocals a little more, but this is definitely really good, great songcraft here I really like what you're doing.

the fact is you can make all the arguments you want, but you might as well argue that Vaporwave is a real genre of music. Technically yes, and to some it sounds good, but in the end, its talent-less cancer, trying to be something its not, whilst its fanboys act pretentious pretending they understand music, just because their brains haven't developed enough to realize that what they're talking about is cancer in the form of an mp3
>>65618098
shit yeah ya got me
>>65617981
You really seem like the kind of guy that can't take criticism. Whenever someone criticises your music you tell them they don't understand therefore their opinion is somehow invalid. Then try and impress people with your one award and extensive knowledge of contemporary music.
>>65618080
you still act like you have some objective authority over what makes music good or not.

he actually deleted my comments off of his soundcloud. he cant take any sort of criticism.
>>65618250
Nothing I do here matters. Sometimes I'm bored and I'm sitting at home and I'm frustrated with not doing anything because I'm home on summer break.
>>65618274
I would've left them there, but that's the same account I direct professionals that I get in contact with, so I think it's pretty understandable that I don't want a bunch of random guys saying my music is shit on there.
>>65618256
I don't, but I do know my own piece and my own influences better than anyone who's commenting on it.

>>65618331
i know my influences better than anyone commenting on it, but you still had the gall to say
> music today has advanced past what you're capable of understanding
and no, deleting my comments so you dont look bad to professionals is not understandable
>>65618331
>I don't, but I do know my own piece and my own influences better than anyone who's commenting on it.
Implying that i could piss into microphone, call it contemporary and anyone who thinks it's shit is wrong because I believe ive created art. It's not up to you to tell people whether your music is good or not.
>>65618413
Well, clearly, you're not a big fan of any prominent element of 20th / 21st century music, and it's not due to any invalidity on the part of the music itself
Let's not forget that you're the one who "objectively" judged vaporwave as "talent-less cancer." But your judgments are truth!
You accuse me of all sorts of things, but you're the one that decided to post your judgments on my actual account when you could've just kept it on here, and you're the one who could've made me look bad for ACTUAL important people. You're the person who felt that your negative judgment on my piece was important enough to be heard by the entire world, and I'm pretentious?
>>65618475
You could, and I could still say it's bad, but I'd always give you the chance to explain yourself
>>65618540
im not the one who said vaporwave was cancer faggot.
and my "negative judgement", which so clearly upset you, was nothing more than "this doesnt sound good at all" and "it doesnt mean it sounds good". If you cant take the possibility of criticism, dont put it on a public forum.
and please, tell me some "prominent" 20/21st century music that sounds remotely close to what you were making.
>>65618540
bro, you're getting confused, I'm the one who said vaporwave was cancer, and btw, I happen to enjoy it, but I'm not the guy who is talking about criticism just now, that's someone else who has more brain cells than you, unless you're pretending we are one person to hide the fact you're a small minority who thinks this is artistic, not autistic?
>>65618540
Why do you have this notion that music should have to be explained? For example explaining that you had written a piece within a traumatic time in your life won't make it sound any better than it already is.
>>65618708
clearly because his music is so trash he has to EXPLAIN why his music is good and why anyone who disagrees is a dated moron that only listens to dubstep
>>65618757
if liking dubstep more than that garbage makes me a dated moron, then hell, i wanna be full blown retarded
>>65618630
sorry, you had the same manner of speaking. I posted some earlier, Feldman and Czernowin

I'm a beginner so go easy on me. The other thread got 404'd and there was someone asking me to rate his song. Link the song for me if you're here.

Excellent song. Normally when I'm listening to songs from sc threads I skip parts of the songs to just get a picture what the song is like (I think everyone does that). This one was definitely worth listening all the way through. The mix sounds pro level.
>>65604253
Like the beat a lot. Your voice is really unique and fits the style of the beat. The song could use some variation on the beats in my opinion.
>>65599142
Switch ups are very well made and the song sounds really ambient in the beginning. The beginning of the song is great and feels right, but the ending part of the song sounds a bit comical almost, it's well made but it just seems so chaotic to be taken completely seriously.
>>65598268
Really nice. Having a picture in my head that this song would be in a movie and the scene is played in slow motion. Maybe in a scene where the protagonist is having a psychedelic experience or something. Overall like the song a lot.
>>65597895
You got a really nice ambient mood going on your song. Slight downside is the snare that seems a bit off from the rest of the song. Maybe use a different sample or use more effects on it?
>>65597948
I started smiling during the switch up. Really didn't expect that but the change was definitely a positive addition. Song is great, but the panning really feels odd from the rest of the song. Getting rid of the odd panning would make the song much better, but that's just my opinion. The beat reminds me of Odd Future.
>>65618757
Exactly. It's definitely not him, we all just don't have the knowledge to be able to understand what good music sounds like.
