I don't think this is a very good album. I don't think there's any point in listening to it when albums like Filth exist, and when the majority of noise rock is better than it (especially the classics, i.e. Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr, TVU, Glenn Branca).
If you haven't heard it but are still interested in listening, I have reduced the album to the 6 minutes and 53 seconds that is worth hearing:
>Track 3: Bad Penny
>Track 6: Colombian Necktie
>Track 10: Fish Fry

Bojangle's rec is definitely not as bad as you guys make it out to be, but yeah it got kinda boring.

My rec made me laugh my ass off. Bagpipes and boom bap? lmao it actually has a few okay tracks, like Infinite Cow and Planet Unknown, but it was so 90s it hurt.

Caviarrr's was basically shittier Jamiroquai

And Vinter's was actually quite nice. Satisfying crunch like Sunday breakfast, but first and last track were too repetitive for their own good.

>moon honey- hand painted dream photographs
>psychedelic
I am really in love with this vocalist, Jessica Ramsey, and not just because she's beautiful. stylistically, she's not far off from joanna newsom.
the band is decent, but the album is hard to digest. like newsom, the whole of it eschews verse-chorus-verse structure, but the songwriting isn't quite so that it engages me properly- a good deal of this album forced itself into background listening. it's rather dense at at times- not even CLOSE to enough silence is utilized. maybe overly-artsy. almost sounds like everyone in the band is trying to show off. this is reflected in the mixing and production. it sounds like all the players are on the same level, contending in unison as opposed to simply being in union. I wanted Jessica's voice to be made more distinct.
but I still like some tracks. The Cathedral is trememdous and I wish the rest of the album was similar.
Lady Lazarus was also great.
I guess I wish this band was simpler, did more to showcase Jessica. she seems like one of the great frontwomen. live videos show her stage presence, and it's as imposing as her voice. I'm disappointed in the overall quality of this record (I almost scored it notably lower) but I want to hear desperately how they grow from it in their future works. Moon Honey is joining Young Fathers and Jambinai in my mind as one of the most interesting acts working today.

>Algebra Suicide - Big Skin
Cool minimal wave tape. The pleasant vocals are so much in the front that you sometime forget about the barebones background music. The vocals are monotonous, almost spoken, mesmerizing. It reminded me of Kim Gordon in less aggressive. The music is comfortable and noisy new wave. Gets a bit samey by the end but definitely enjoyable.
7/10

>Modest Mouse - Tube Fruit, All Smiles and Chocolate
I'm ashamed to say I've never heard any Modest Mouse before. It is a charming little cassette of lo-fi indie. A lot of the time, the vocals get buried behind the noise. It's far from perfection but it's played and sung with a lot of passion and the rawness is enjoyable. The main problem is that, with 25 tracks, it lasts 76 minutes and, of course, a lot is dispensable.
6/10

>Egaheer - Czarna Litania
On this release, the band abandonned the garage style of their first demo and drew closer to Black Metal. They still use this amazing sounding organ but not anymore in a psychedelic way. It's a lot less aggressive than their demo. The short ambient tracks are bad and feel terribly out of place. But still this organ and the vocals are so cool and the songwriting shows some great moments. Listen to this if you're looking for black metal with a twist.

>Old Man Gloom - Ape of God
>sludge, doom metal

The first thing that really caught me was the beastly sonic landscapes this album contains. Slow and sinister created a rather, well, gloomy atmosphere with a sort of ambient drone sections. Then before you know it the sludgy riffs kicked in and I was sold.

Now I did read up somewhere where they released a faked album slightly before the actually released, rearranging older tracks(?) into lengthy and moody doom oriented songs. They made a statement that they basically did it to take the piss out of pirates and critics alike. All In all though I liked and am not really bothered by it. It pretty much a nice intro into this bands work.

>M. Sage - Rife W/ Typo
This came out of nowhere and is looking to be an AOTY contender.
I decided to check this out since goodfriend described it as a "Replica if it used jazzier samples".
I'm not sure if I 100% agree with this assessment (it is pretty accurate), but I'll be damned if this thing isn't incredibly interesting.
This is the first time in a while I've listened to an album this demanding, to pick up on subtle details with every listen.
At first, the album didn't strike me as too spectacular, but I kept going back to it.
I need to listen to it more to really figure it out.
If you like OPN, plunderphonics, and/or glitch, don't pass up on this album.

iunno tho imo sunn dont manage being "heavy" well most of the time - when they're doing their standard, their cadences or whatever don't seem planned out long-term, like, the tracks have an uneven sense of buildup and release throughout, and striving towards any one final satisfying conclusion but just meander, striking something heavy every now and then, and even then, they're incredibly one-dynamic so the heaviness gets lost in that, too. oh yeah and on record, i don't think they ever achieved a crunchy, bassy enough guitar tone, and putting attilas dull narration or whateverthefuck in front of it hurts it even more, of course

sunn is terrible in every way
>>
>>65571490
it's their only album so far!
I definitely got hung up in what I didn't like about it in that review, and there was admittedly a good deal that was boring. but I see so much potential (especially in the songs that I really really enjoy) ! such room for growth! I can see Jessica outgrowing Moon Honey the same way Björk outgrew the Sugarcubes (just prior to her illustrious solo career).

So I got this weird little single re-release of Red Krayola's, Hurricane Fighter Plane on Side A and Pink Stainless Tail on B. And you know, the songs just aren't the same without all the noise. These edits really mix down the background noise shit, and you can briefly make it out before and after the songs. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised, but I am. Excellent choice on their part for keeping the noises in the background of the songs on the album.

I need to do some cathing up.

>greeenvale sodapop & clinic
originally I wasn't too wild about this album, but having listened to it a few times now, it's much cuter than I had initially thought. "daytoday," while I still think it's kinda long and the distortion near the tail end of the track gets a little patience testing, it's quite fun. the field recordings are well placed, and the little 3 note synth lines are really satisfying.
"sodapop 'n clinic" is definitely my favorite of the three. it's a very cute track, love the bouncing around it does from different rooms of the clinic, at least that's how I see this track.
"grass" is my least favorite, and the most patience testing in my opinion. I was really hoping for some kind of progression, and at the most, we get a detuned bassline that comes in later on. the tape stops don't do much for the track, sadly.
but it was a good listen, and I will be returning to the second track quite often.

This album was frustrating as shit. Power User is one of the best songs of the year, Randomness is great, Ritual is great, Stomach It is great. Doppio is pretty good. But some of the remaining tracks are so bad (Ata, Regular, Your Life Is a Lie) that it brings it all the way down to a 6.5.

been a while since I last posted on here, I'm still doing that huge chart I made back in August but I keep getting sidetracked. Right now I've made it my goal to listen to the entire Oingo Boingo discography. So far I finished Only A Lad and Nothing To Fear. I liked Nothing To Fear slightly more (fav tracks: Grey Matter, Private Life, and Islands) but Only A Lad was also pretty great (fav tracks: On The Outside, and What You See). I always thought Oingo Boingo were just sorta a meme band but these are some really solid pop albums.

>>65573513
Yeah I've only ever heard praise for the wider Oingo Boingo discography from anyone who's bothered to give their other albums a listen

hi
1. i don't like forcing myself to write about what i listen to. when i do do it, which is rarely, i don't enjoy it and nobody else enjoys reading it
2. i really really need to start focusing on getting a job/into college so i need to cut memeing out of my schedule anyway
3. i'm still p much a newfag so im definitely pulling this out of my ass but it seems to me that after 2 years the thread is starting to get over itself. nobody except dogwander writes reviews worth a shit (or at all) anymore and even he seems bored
i'll probably be back but maybe not. /drama/

>Pink Floyd - Animals
Most of this album kind of sucked. It just felt pretty void of any creativity and exciement compared to other floyd albums. I know the album is called "Animals," but were the pig and sheep noises on the songs really necessary. I was actually really digging the intro to sheep, but all i could really focus on was the fucking baaaaing in the background. There wasn't a single point on this album where i was super impressed with what was happening. The acoustic intro and outro were just there and felt pointless. Honestly after two listens the only saving grace this has is that there were a few moments where the drums and bass playing together created a pretty sick groove. yellow circle/10

Finishing this shit

>dataplay
Flophouse was like some butt-jangle with some country influence. Like data said, the first track is alright, but the rest is ehhh...

>Yosemite
How Do I was some pretty grody dreaminess, but I can't really say I hated it. Just pretty forgettable.

>Thomas
There was something strangely charming about Molded, but thankfully the songwriting and vocals were bad enough to allow me to hate it.

>Nyar
Nyar just happened to find another fucking Indie rec huh? hmmm... But this one wasn't actually that bad though. Emma Blowgun's Last Stand as well as the last track are quite good. If only the rad trumpets complemented literally any other genre this could've been great.

>triangle
You've Made Me So Very Happy has a lot of familiar-sounding sounds, and is probably instrumentally the best sounding album here, but I feel like this dude is only giving about 20% of what he otherwise could vocally.

>comet
Initially seeing this I was like "OH BOY POST-ROCK" then listening to it I was like "oh...post-rock..." I mean the violins are cool at first, but the fact that two violins pretty much carry 80% of the album alone, they aren't really that interesting of pieces, and otherwise just fall flat. Most songs are just violin with drums a couple minutes in and nothing more.

>Kanzler
Some pretty generic Greek (?) thrash, but it did have some pretty rad breakdowns, but nothing that would really sell me on the genre as a whole. Why do they have to sample the sound of a crying baby, which is literally the worst-sounding thing ever? Instrumentals were alright, but the girls voice was just whatever and didn't really suit the tone of the album at all.

>Mortimer
I could see everyone liking this, maybe even winning, but boots-n-pants totally isn't my thing. I enjoyed the first track and "Get the Future Started" but nah, I ain't really about this.

>Pedro the Lion - It's Hard to Find a Friend

pretty good. solid song writing and instrumentation. maximum comfy. I want to listen to it again.
>>
>>65577831

>natkingcole
I can't see this winning, but this was probably my fav. she really has some fantastic lyrics and the songwriting isn't like outstanding, but it's subtle and creative enough to set it apart from most singer/songwriter stuff. Really hope people give this a chance.

>GIVINGBEAR
I actually enjoyed this a lot, but it was a bit repetative. I felt as if it had a more organic synth sound rather than the limited chiptune sounds it could've done so much more.

My preditiction is that Mortimer, or triangle will win, but I'm rooting for nat here.

Also lmao at how I gave everything a total of 5 different ratings, but these were mostly extremely average, probably how they ended up in a thrift store anyways

It's 2am, and I'm using that to excuse this shitty writing

Bobby Joe Ebola and the Children Macnuggits - Carmelita Sings!: Visions of a Rock Apocalypse
Some nice harmonies and catchy tunes but ultimately too flimsy and juvenile. Heard one of these songs on a S.P.A.M. Records company when i was sixteen, and it wasn't impressive then either. Most of the punk I listened to fifteen years ago is firmly in guilty pleasure territory already, even without being intentionally immature. Comedy punk, no thank you. Honestly though, if I didn't speak English, or if this was sung in Esperanto, much of it would be enjoyable, so 2.0-

Gogo Penguin - Man Made Object
This needs a re-listen for sure, but I remember very groovy jazz fusion, enjoyable themes, occasionally annoying instrument sounds (track 2 piano opening, ouch). Very sexy combo of instruments, and I like the deep feel they bring by mostly always playing all together. Stand out tracks are 1, 3, 7, much of the rest sounds a bit samey, which is a bummer because I like what's here and want to hear more. 3.5+

One hell of an album, and one hell of an experience.
It's loud, it's hard, it's dissonant and it's harsh. And is also is very well composed, of course.

This record is labyrinthine: every song constantly changes riffs, moods, tempos, sections and rarely gives any pause, but when it does it's really gorgeous, because it's nice to have a little relief, and also because it sounds beautiful.

Chuck really had a talent for writing infectious, original and (do I really dare to say it?) "catchy" riffs, despite them being very technical and sometimes also pretty hallucinatory.
The fact that the performance of every member of the band is perfect also helps a lot.

On my third listen of "The United States of America - s/t" and I'm digging it. Really cool electronic elementes mixed into the instrumentation with beautiful singing that I didn't expect at all. First listen was a little overwhelming with the 20 tracks but on the second listen i already hummed along to the melodies on half of the tracks. And even tho the electronic elements are so out there the album is very calming and dreamy. Some of the tracks sound a little kitschy like "I Won't Leave My Wooden Wife For You, Sugar" but that's not a bad thing at all, I love it. I only saw after my second listen that the inital released album ended with track 10 ("The American Way Of Love"). I don't know which version is prefered here but I actually liked the way some tracks repeated with just a little bit of alternation after track 10, I found it interesting. It also made it by the minute the exact length of my way to university so that was nice.

lemme guess you _still_ "cringe" to Slipknot, too? man and i thought you were cool
>>
>>65583581
yeah there's some pretty fun stuff there.
The Smaakmarkt is once in a while at the Vasim and that's p fun. The beer and food yesterday was great and they also had beers from a brewery next door (Oersoep). There's also a gallery that displays stuff by recent art school graduates which was nice. Then there's a few shops and event thingies.
>>
>>65583581
also the street leading from the station to plein 44 is completely reworked and there's some good shops/cafes settling there, so I hope that trend will be continued as I always think it's kinda shitty that the Molenstraat is quite literally the only thing (with a few exceptions, but you get what I mean), even though I do enjoy stuff there.

You guys all like classical
I hate listening to a bunch of classical works by unrelated composers in different eras. How the fuck am I supposed to rate this shit, let alone find the right music. Fuck classical. Help a non classical person out?
>>
>>65584109
start with the greeks
>>
>>65584147
No like. Almost every bit I see for baroque era stuff is a compilation of Baroque artists crammed between Beethoven or some shit. I cant just get the work as is. I havent found any release thats literally JUST Pachelbel.
>>
>>65584104
preparing the template totally makes up for it <3

So how does this thread work? It looks similarly structured like a reddit thread (in a good way).

Do you just make charts and say "imma listen to all this shit this month"?

What are your activities?

Do you constantly give and receive recs? I cant get people to do that with me in RYM threads anymore. Gone are those days.
>>
>>65584277
Kinda what you said. You can make a chart and listen to those albums and rate/review them, doesn't have to be a set timeframe though a lot of people do one per month. You can also just have a blank slate and fill it per day with whatever you listen to.
Or think up a new concept of your own, it's entirely up to you!
You can always ask for recs! What's your rym?

A few of the lyrics got a healthy chuckle from me but overall the comedy was not my style.
Never listened to slipknot but I'll be hearing them in ~9 years for my pic related tournament

Lad, just read the OP
>Do you just make charts and say "imma listen to all this shit this month"?
That's not all we do but yeah
>What are your activities?
Making charts, having listenalongs, going to plug.dj/synctube, having tourney and memeing among others
>Do you constantly give and receive recs? I cant get people to do that with me in RYM threads anymore. Gone are those days.
Ask and you'll most likely receive

Hullo /daily/. Liked Debussy's and Ravel's quartets but they need more listens. Also gonna start reading some jazz biographies but I don't know whether to start with Monk or with Mingus. Anyone?

And got some time to kill before meeting a friend, can I get some recs?

NOT weeb music

Wovenhand's blush music? If you find it too 'inaccessible' try their s/t instead.
>>
>>65584426
I got a lot of singles in general. Still trying to re-rate 2/3s of my music. Sorta challenging myself to refresh my memory. I'll delete all the stuff I dont remember anymore, same as I did for films.

1.0s are given more to singles rather than albums because I get unwillingly exposed to said singles.

>Szymon Kuran - Requiem
I don't know much about classical or modern classical, but I know two things: I don't like choral stuff and this album is overrated. The last 3 songs were pretty enjoyable though. It has an interesting vibe sorta similar to dark ambient, but idk it just wasn't good.

>Sun Ra - Secrets of the Sun
Similar to Atlantis, but not recorded underwater and less good.

I'm listening to nick cave and the bad memes for the first time and wow they took a huge dip in quality after the first song.

>>65584515
>just here for the music
lol what music
>>
>>65584635
I guess the idea of deleting ratings for stuff I dont remember sounds unnecessary to me, esp. If it's a low rating because it was boring or forgettable. A high rating for something i can't remember, i'd feel weird about

Get a trip and make a chart, buddy
>>
>>65584559
Yeah, will do. Gonna start with Mingus anyway, it's shorter and also an autobiography, though from what I've heard, there's a lot of talk about sex and other things than music but I'm interested in Mingus' perspective nonetheless.
>>65584594
Five minutes in I'm not very thrilled. I'll go with something else since my internet is making the video stop constantly.
