I used to love the Mars Volta. They were everything to me in high school. And even after I got mover my tmv phase, I still respected them and loved revisiting their catalog.
Well. It's about 10 years since I was obsessed with them. And let me just say that they suck so much. It IS just wank. Cedric has such a hard time singing in Spanish. How could I never tell? Spanish was my first language. They are just so boring. Omar truly sucks at writing songs.

Dude fuck off. I'm a musician, know plenty of musicians with degrees, and not a single one of them would deny some of the sheer virtuosity in certain songs and parts.
I can certainly understand someone not liking the bands sound and full blast dynamic, but a song like Cicatriz ESP is a great example of the band actually showing real pacing in their songwriting.

There's both for sure but none of it's valuable. I don't hear any individual voice in their solos. There's nothing new in their music. It's just more prog shit. At least back in the day you had to do more than just fucking solo vamps.
