How do I write music like him?
>>65523755
you better do not
record AM radio music to a cheap cassette recorder like the good old days
"music"
>>65523787
Hearing music through a old radio on a weak transmission gets me going honestly
>>65523875
same, i enjoy his old lo-fi sound collage stuff for that reason
>realize fruityloop preset sounds are pretty cool
>compose as if you were a depressed Verizon ringtone technician
>play a lot of shadowgate
>spend too much time in food courts
>eat froyo
>drive a prius

I've been listening/stalking ferraro for the last 3 years
read every interview and anything related.
Besides the amphetamine fueled drug addiction.Everything he makes is based on some virtual world in his head based on some pop culture media he consumed and wanted it done his way.
originally he claims he made music for other people's art installations but instead of it being used for that people started buying his music.
tho I'd say his biggest weakness is a lack of cohesion in his work. he makes alot of groundbreaking stuff that he one-offs and jumps to something else. which is why I love him and hate him :(
RAIDEN RAIDEN
BLUE LIGHT BLUE LIGHT
YEAH
Ferraro is one of few true iconoclasts left. You can't "write music like him", but you could have a similar approach.
>>65524055
>Besides the amphetamine fueled drug addiction.
hah is this true? his catalog makes so much more sense
>>65523755
Step 1: be retarded
Step 2: have absolutely no discernable talent whatsoever
Step 3: buy a couple of very cheap keyboards at flea markets -- it doesn't matter what kind, as long as they're cheap AF
Step 4: buy a cheap 8-track recorder
Step 5: write a verbose artist-statement that essentially makes a mountain out of a molehill
Bonus: be a minority or a trans
And there you go... you'll get a write-up in The Wire magazine in no time.
Hit yourself in the head with a brick a few dozen times.

>>65524872
here's a string quartet playing some of his songs
>>65524977
i thought he was the guy who does sample-based vaporwave. am i thinking of someone else?
>>65525015
probably. he did make a proto-vaporwave record, not sample-based though
>>65524944
This is the kind of inarticulate retort that i'd expect from James Ferraro, himself. Dat you, James?
>listen to this because it gets posted on /mu/ and rec heavily
>listen to it
>it's literally Saturday morning cartoon theme songs
What the FUCK???
>>65525054
that album's like an even trashier ff>> or house arrest
love it
>>65525053
either him or marcel
>>65525045
oh damn. well i guess i've been writing him off for no good reason then. where's a good place to start that showcases his compositional abilities?
Honestly you have to be somebody who consumes alot of different media to "get" ferraro
he's beyond making music based on whats cool or good/bad
he sees the beauty in anything you know. there's a million ways to make music

this
you really gotta grow up in the years between 1995-2006 to really understand what he's doing here. coming of age with the rise of the internet and 64 bit gaming unlocking new polygonal 3d worlds. a time of optimism and new technology and a sense of wonder towards the future, then it all comes crashing down as you get older and experience the bush years and a cynicism starts to sweep the nation.
>>65525054
You just don't get it, maaaaan. It's an appropriation of 90's aesthetics and technology, used in attempt to illustrate the hyperreality of exponentially advancing technological mediums, in which the medium, itself, is the message.
... Or maybe it's just a load of utter bullshit
>>65525207
or maybe you're just too dense and close minded to understand the concept of subtlety and allegory
100 bucks bets you're a /pol/ack
>>65525207
>... Or maybe it's just a load of utter bullshit
somewhat right on both parts tho I'd say thats more dean blunt and opn's alley where they like to leave some humor in their work
ferraro is more serious be more open minded
Everything he's done is better than Eccojams imo.
>>65525235
>>65525243
Don't be so open-minded that your brain falls out, dipshits.
>>65525054
>>65525207
>>65525289
how could anyone not see brilliance in tracks like dollhouse frotteur, killer nerd, buffy honkerburg's answering machine or leather highschool? I think ferraro's constant flirtation with camp, pop, muzak and other "lowly" modes of music leaves a lot of people insecure, 2bh. "am I allowed to enjoy this?"
REMINDER
REMINDER
FERRARO HAS BEEN EXPOSED AS A TALENTLESS HACK BEFORE
DELETE ALL HIS MUSIC IF YOU HAVE THEM AND BLACKLIST HIM
>>65525149
>https://soundcloud.com/b-e-b-e-t-u-n-e/ten-songs-for-humanity
the music sounds really pretty but i wish it didn't have that trite 'press play' sample. the music and artwork alone are more than enough to convey the idea that it's a postmodern commentary on technology and the internet. the sample makes that message way too overt imo.
>>65525289
how old are you?
what was your childhood like growing up?
how about your socioeconomic status? did you play computer games as a chid
ferraro's music is meant to invoke visions of a certain time and experience that is rather specific but commonly felt amongst a certain age group due to exposure to the same media and the rise of new technologies such as the internet to spread this information and foster a sense of community worldwide. the music harkens back to this time and the feeling of optimism and looking forward to the future that many felt in the pre 9/11 world of a booming economy and a sense of security. now, the world is in chaos, and the future isn't quite the great cyberutopia we once envisioned. ferraro's music gives us a glimpse into what that future may have been like.
>>65525430
So basically you only like it because it sounds like the music to your childhood computer games and makes you remember a time when you weren't a complete failure?
You're a fag bro.
>>65525495
the ultimate plebeian
>>65525430
I grew up in the 80's/90's, and all I hear is some nostalgic, perfunctory, superficial kitsch. His albums all sound like demo-tapes made by a middle-schooler who just bought his first 8-track.
You can conceptualize it all you'd like, and I'm not saying that it's "worthless"; however, I think it's laughable when people talk about it as if it's anything more than fun, kitschy music.
>>65525617
>fun, kitschy music.
so, the White Album?
>>65525875
>The White Album
Sure. Only with half the effort, physical chops, and knowledge of music.
