emo is just sad mathcore or post-hardcore. emo isn't anything that's sad and has electric guitars.

Emo is a genre that stems from post-hardcore and is pretty much always sad and nostalgic sounding. A lot of it has become pretty removed from post-hardcore, but the heavy rock guitars and instrumentation are still there. It often features changing rhythms and dynamics and idk I'm trying to be as detailed as possible here but I'm not getting anywhere.

In case it wasn't obvious, My Chemical Romance and the likes are not emo.
