If I buy a Zoom Gn5 or G3x or boss GT series will I ever need to buy another pedal? Also which is better?

No. Just get a cheap guitar with humbuckers and wire them in parallel.
>>
>>65511789
Well, I already weighed in last thread but boss is better apart from the amps.

No, you will not need another pedal if you get these, unless you get a bass. The compressors don't really work for bass... to my knowledge, haven't played newer models.

But, it's not like there's infinite pedals. Sure, there's a klon on the zoom, but there isn't a blues driver. Vice-versa for the boss. So you know, you definitely have everything you need, some people just want something very specific.

Tune it well, then check the tuning at the 12th fret. If it's in tune, your intonation is correct. You'll never have perfect intonation on every fret, but the 12th fret is the best place to measure.

I love you too. BTW Trial is their best album to date. Listening to it right now. They have the blues driver on a couple tracks there too, I think. One song I think both guitars use it during the intro at the same time, haha. Anyway it's their first album with bass worth mentioning.

I've been playing for 1 month, how good idea it is to just silently play along songs I like? I literally have 0 idea about the chords in the songs, I just use randomly the 8 chords I know. I try to pay attention to strings to see if I'm muting anything by accident but I don't want to hear my currently shit playing along the songs.

I also practice normally of course but will this fuck me up somehow?
>>
>>65513838

I think it's a better idea if you play out loud and try and figure out the chords of songs as you play.
>>
>>65513871
It will improve your rhythm I suppose, but it would be more beneficial to play songs you like that use the chords you know, so you are practicing both rhythm AND chord changes/muscle memory

Also, I think the world's shittiest recording setup (not mic'd up whatsoever and recording through photo booth on a Macbook, I know I know) may have trouble picking up the lower notes that I'm playing, oh well. Sucks because I wanted to record Just Got Paid by ZZ Top, but it sounds like extra dog shit because all the notes are separated by a muted strum of the low E string, which the computer mic barely pics up

Start writing songs and melodies right now. It doesn't matter if they're shitty. Just keep doing it. You were shitty at guitar until you started practicing and now you're not so shitty. Same with writing. And it's okay to end up copying songs or melodies.

So, I'm a physicist and I always get triggered by this issue.
See, the way tests and shit are conduced are done in a terrible way.

I don't know who has time and money to do this, maybe I personally will make a full fucking essay when I finish my other papers.

But to anyone with money and time who feels like doing this.

You will need:
At least I'd say 3 different species of wood
From which at least you have multiple samples of each, from different sources.
You'd have a control set up, with a floating in air pick up kind of deal, so as to have basically something close to linear permeability shown in vacuum.
Also add acrylic or whatever.

Now, almost every piece of wood would have to be cut the exact same size, but also add at least one control piece per species which differs in size and shape, just like a random shit.

Also, you would use at least three notes I'd say, or more, maybe 4 with one of them being a random one for control, at least.

The picking of the string would be done by a robotized or automated system that always produces the same amount of force in the same exact place.
For control you'd also use a different plectrum material or a different position (this will surely affect the tone though, so maybe it makes more sense to not do this since it's trivial to the result).

Now, I'd take multiple samples of a single note, like at least 10. And that goes for each note, for each species, for each piece, etc.

Now, you fucking make your tables of results with measured error(! don't forget to note your margin of errors you fucking freshmen) and plot it.

After plotting all those fucking time consuming and boring notes accounting for a controlled room and enviroment and pieces and everything, AND your control measurements (don't forget your controls motherfucking freshmen)... THEN you can make a fucking analysis.

Now, you measure the results while accounting for measurement errors and see if wood matters or not.

>>
>>65519239
The experiment is on the listeners. And some would argue(not me) that a floating pickup rig would be removing a possible factor of the body material moving the pickups. Really the measurement is what needs to be precise.

Now, this experiment isn't mean to test whether there's a difference, it's meant to test if there's a perceivable difference. We know there's a difference, the question is about whether it can be perceived. We don't know exactly what measurements he made and how close he was to correct. So, this is a pretty casual test. But it's still interesting and informative.

Hello dear friends,

I just copped an Ibanez GAX70 from the internet and I had some beginner questions about setup.

Firstly, I am planning on using studio monitors because I'm cheap and also because if I got an amp my roommate would assassinate me. Guitar jack -> TRS cable -> Scarlett 2i2 -> Macbook DAW and then out to speakers. Has anyone tried something like this? Seems the sound is entirely software basically.

Also, do I need to buy anything besides strings and a pick? I have the cable and things already.

Finally, wtf is up with the E (?) string, is it just super loose?

Thanks,
an excited beginner

not many brands are consistently inconsistent, if you know what I mean. It's better to look at individual product models. Otherwise you pretty much have to spend exorbitant amounts of money just to avoid googling that particular model.

Even the biggest cheap-o brand for guitars out there, behringer, is well known to have some serious gems. Vintage time machine, upper end(of behringer) bass heads, for example.

>And some would argue(not me) that a floating pickup rig would be removing a possible factor of the body material moving the pickups.
That's what we call control, you need that.

And yeah, the experiment I'm talking about also takes into account perceivable difference.
You measure perceived values against measured values.
And if there's a constant and significant correlation there you go, and if not, there you go too.

>>65519492
Well, I can't write the whole thing needed for the experiment in 2000 words that is the post lengtht max, but yeah, you'd need a controlled environment.

beheringer until you're experienced and know which few of their shit is acceptable.
in my opinion anything by zoom.
Line 6 Spider combo amps.
Try to avoid under 250-300 usd (new, not used nor discounted) or equivalent guitars/basses, that's usually the cut off for non shit quality but it's just a rule of thumb.
cheap guitars with "floyd roses"
shit without a warranty
huge picks unless you play bass
Sterling by music man
line 6 guitars
Mooer pedals, only few of them actually werk alright but you won't know until you know your shit
Cables with flimsy ends/plugs, they will fucking short out and you'll need to resolder them or buy again if you don't know what to do.
But don't buy super expensive either.
Avoid epiphones with bolt on necks, they fucking suck.
Try to avoid "cort-tek" made guitars if you care about human rights.
Avoid caring too much about opinions but do ask for opinions before purchasing because products might be faulty or shitty to use.

Fucking whole music man is like this, I ranted last time about this shit.
New Pucci model? fucking weird ass carbon fiber right in the pussy for no fucking reason and it looks like a fucking blackberry branded schecter. But it's super comfy and nice to play.
Bongo? Let's make a super sweet bass configuration and hire a car company to design the body... exactly when their worst fucking designer is in charge of bmw, chris fucking bangle (I don't know if he had input though).
Hey we improved the strat yet again Leo! but let's slap a fucking teardrop pickguard that doesn't match the body at all.

If they didn't have those autistic design decisions, I'd buy them because I love playing them.
I guess the classic bass line is way more accepted, and I do think it's super cool, plus they nailed that pup just right.

>>
>>65520343
Sorry I meant the SUB line.
While music man is excellent, I feel their sterling SUB line falls quite behind in quality against the competition, it's outright shitty.
Although I do think that the sterling line isn't quite there either, especially for the price. The only thing worth it is that they come configured with the MM specs so you can swap for better stuff, but it feels like the quality control is quite unremarkable with the sterling line. Sharp frets are the thing I noticed when I picked one up in a store last time.

Regardless of that, top tier guitar for sure, I just wish there was a non cringe model.
Like just take the shields away, I even like the chameleon car paint, but the aesthetic choices don't make sense. It's not like he plays in nevermore. >is he like a tank in an mmo
He's roiding enough to go as tank tho. Don't know, I find it the less appealing part of the guitar tbqh. I don't mind it as inlay but right in the middle it's really over the top. I'm just too pleased with the ergonomics, sound and versatility.
I'm almost sure there will be models without the shield, they are already going for it to be more discreet in the newer ones but to me it was $800 more expensive. Fuck no.

>>65520190
You're not going to measure the ability of people to perceive the difference in an actual guitar by diminishing the total effect of the body. There will be a cutoff somewhere where people will not be able to perceive the difference. If it takes mounting the pickups on the guitar for people to hear the difference, and you succeed in mounting them at equal points, then you are making a controlled experiment. If you want to test merely what sounds the human ear can hear, instead of what timbre is really about, the sounds you can PICK OUT, use a frequency generator.

You want the only factor that CHANGES to be the material, but you don't want to remove factors that are present in the system of a guitar.

The deviation of the human ear versus measurements is a nice experiment, that doesn't have much to do with the issue at hand. What you really need is stronger control over some of the factors in the video, and a larger number of participants.

People cannot tell you how much volume there is at 800hz. How the hell are you supposed to use these measurements? What questions are you asking the listeners? Your idea does not involve the listeners at all.

tl;dr you are asking a completely different question, and getting mad at people for not making an experiment that answers your question. That doesn't make their experiment flawed.

I think you're missing the point.

The argument of tone woods is that wood composition influences the electromagnetic field of the pick up in a strong enough way to influence tone in a perceivable way.

Read again what I posted.

What I mean by "no material" is what we call a control measurement. It's simply used to chart and measure values taking into account even scenarios not considered relevant, just to be able to rule out random findings, or to otherwise find random stuff you didn't know or take into account before.
I'm not saying that we're going to measure against it, it's just another random measurement against to which compare shit.

Removing a material helps because what is affecting toan is the permeability of the material surrounding the pick up, so it's super relevant to the experiment.

You do need to remove factors to also take them into account, did you do your lab hours anon?

And no, it's not simply a "nice experiment". The correlation between hearing and measured values is what shows what's up with tone woods. Because if there's something that influences tone, we can rule through the experiment if toan woods are the reason OR if there's another factor in there because there's still a correlation between measurements and perception. (like, if the perception of tone is consistent across groups and the control ones, then there's something going on, and it's either wood species or something else).

Also, perception of sound is pretty consistent in humans, so your group and control group of people shouldn't be a problem, just use enough slaves (undergrads).

And as I've said, the posts are too small to give a whole pre-essay essay to explain how to go at the experiment, I could blog post it if someone is interested, and eventually conduct the experiments.

I gotcha bud, I caught it shortly after I posted it. Something about the whole feeling of Midnight Ramber on Ya Ya's just gets me fucking going. I love jamming along with that song. I like Waiting on a Friend, but I don't think it makes it into my top 10, but then again that's the beauty of the Stones, they just have that many hits.

I don't have any of their live albums, just the studio stuff. Yeah, all of their songs are a fucking blast to jam to.

I would absolutely check out the live version of Midnight Rambler, it has a totally different feel from the study version.

alice was waaaaaaay overshadowed by nirvana, and when nirvana died, grunge died with it.

alice of course still put out albums that were amazing, but pearl jam started sucking after vs, soundgarden soon broke up, and rap blew up in the mainstream. jerry was just lost in a sea of changing music scenes.

but alice in back at it with the new albums, hopefully their next album isnt just a black gives way to blue direct sequel.
