Are there any math-rock abums that are as good as this?

of the ones in the chart, i would assume
>tweez
>at action park
>what burns never returns + 2
>mirrored + gloss drop
>yank crime
>today's active lifestyles + exploded drawing
>all hail bright futures
>>
>>65492444
No I've listened to that, ben hur, don cabalero (2 and what burns...) , american football, Animals, cadwallder, glass drop, and a minor forest. The only one that i think is as good as spiderland is flemish alt

to be fair, i like spiderland, but i don't think it's the greatest album in the genre or even one of the greatest albums of all time - it's just good in my pov

idk if it's your all-time fav, but if it is, then that might be one of the big reasons why you're having trouble finding something as good

if it's just a good album to you, then idk what to say apart from that it's just differences between me and you, i guess

This one, OP.
>>
>>65493830

Those vocals are insufferable. The guitar parts aren't bad per se but they just sit them the entire fucking song on loop with very minor development. The vocals are really bad. There are some moderately interesting percussion moments. No rhythmic flair, apart from the aforementioned drums. Vocals are annoying. They(?) start going in some interesting directions, like the end of Untitled #6 for example, but never commit or go anywhere. It includes a dudesyntharpeggioslmao track (that's a bad thing). A lot of the track titles make me cringe but that's just superficial. The vocals are awful.

Probably a 2/10. Would have been a 3-4 without the vocals.

The album is called "For Long Tomorrow", artist is "toe".

This sounds like an extremely poor Elephant Gym. Listen to that instead.

I found my favorite band, toe, from the chart

Awesome. I'm listening to For Long Tomorrow for the first time as we speak. Pretty nice so far, drums are so active.. almost jazzy at times. Melodies are gorgeous but I'm hoping for some more development or it could be at risk of getting lost in all the "pretty clean guitar" albums out there. Only half way through the third track though.

>no one mentions Thee Speaking Canaries
C'mon guys. In all seriousness if you enjoy Don Cab or Storm and Stress give them a shot. Thee Speaking Canaries was basically Damon Che's side project from Don Cab. I don't know how to individually link the album downloads from this guy's mega but here is the link to his stash.

Scroll down till you see them, I recommend The Joy of Wine first. He also has tons of other Math Rock stuff, so have at it. If linking the whole guys mega folder is wrong, I apologize since I didn't know any better lmao.

For you Don Caballero fans, Sounds Like Braille is pretty nice.

someone wrote Battled instead of Battles
on that note you should check out Mirrored by Battles

There's this one math-rock band, Dazzling Killmen, their album Face Of Collapse does an amazing mesh of metal and math-rock. Severely underrated stuff, all the dudes were trained in jazz and one day they decided to make rock music.

Look Mexico - this is animal music is a worthwhile record if you're into Midwest emo
>>
>>65494781
isnt rusty more noise rock
>>
>>65495127
Rusty is most definitely math rock, with elements of noise. Bible Silver Corner, The Everyday World Of Bodies, Jungle Jim, Gauge, and Tooth Fairy Retribution Manifesto all have time signature shifts, the most notable ones being in Bodies and Tooth Fairy Retribution Manifesto. The usual contention is whether or not to call it post-rock, as it does have a few post-rock touches. Generally it's considered a post-hardcore math rock album.
>>
>>65493331
Fuck this album is fantastic, I agree. OP listen to this one.

>>65495187
yeah that's true you can def see the change in style on the 2nd half. what makes something math rock?

>what makes something math rock?

Generally odd time signatures and multiple shifts of time signatures in one song; it's why a lot of math rock is known for the stop/start or LOUD/quiet motifs.

Celebrate the New Dark Age EP is my favorite. Check it out.

>>65495218
Off the top of my head, constant time signature changes and angular riffs are the two most characteristic superficial traits in the genre.

But there's definitely more to it. It also implies certain approach to composition, which will make the music sound disjointed and/or "geometric". This is why a lot of people describe early Sonic Youth as proto math-rock.

This is another band that is often tagged as proto math, so you get the idea
