It's a piece of clay that is on display in an art gallery that lies in the void of existence. And the match represents the struggle between artist and anonymous materials -- an ambiguous clay mold, and a match that, once lit, will burn until only a hole remains.
This illustrates the futility of creation, and the fact that all artistic endeavors are ephemeral, but yet they change the landscape of our ever-transient present -- this is the artist's statement about the fact that the PROCESS is the only reality, and the end-result will never truly come to fruition.

at first, it bothered me that the shadow of the match doesn't... match the drop shadow of the clay thing, but maybe thats because its supposed to highlight the unreality of the object.
it might be a play off platos statement that art is just a inferior representation of the real word..
it is a painting of an installation.. an artwork of an artwork. in the same way that the whole album is just a collection of other songs by other artists, processed to highlight the imperfections of the medium it plays of, and looped in a sort of curating act, a collage of sorts -- as if an artist were to cut out different details from other artworks and present them as new artworks. Maybe the match werent there in the first place? maybe the artist just "sampled" it from another artwork, merging the two objects presented in different rooms with different light sources, creating a new imaginary object.
Like the memories of the altzheimer patients in the studies the album is inspired by; the musical pieces, and the unreal artwork is just a disjointed jumble of incoherent memories forming a slowly decaying identity in a decaying body.
