I'm a rock fan trying to get into hip hop. What are the essential beginners albums to get me started? And once I listen to those, who else should I listen to
Deltron 3030
Eyedea & Abilities
Fugees
The Roots
All of the first wave of Wu Tang solo albums and Grave Diggaz

The essential hip hop album
My personal taste :
> Good
old :
A tribe called quest (GOAT)
Mos Def
Gang Starr
The Roots
new :
Kendrick Lamar
Kanye (but awful lyrics)
Dälek
>Bad
old :
2 Pac
Dr Dre
Public Enemy
Notorious BIG
De la Soul
new :
pretty much everything you can hear about on the radio, on p4k and here (what you don't hear about can be good sometimes)
>A Tribe Called Quest - The Low End Theory
>GZA - Liquid Swords
>The Notorious BIG - Ready To Die
>Outkast - ATLiens
>Eminem - The Marshall Mathers LP
>Madvillain - Madvillainy
>Kendrick Lamar - Section.80
>Danny Brown - XXX
are all very accessible to most audiences, very authentic and true to what makes hip hop so well liked.
If you ever get into the genre a little more, check out the work of El-P, Flying Lotus, Mac Dre, Kanye West, DJ Shadow, Nas, etc.

lmao
"pretty much everything you hear on the radio, p4k, and here"
also i disagree with dalek being good and dr dre and de la soul being bad, like what
other than that its all good
>>65442144
MMLP is the most accessible rap album of all time, why else do you think it sold so well (other than eminem being white trash)?
>>65442549
Eminem had a really strong pop culture presence back then, he was like the biggest most interesting popular artist in the world. Horrorcore was never a particularly marketable subgenre.
