It's like the first one, but more ambitious, more out-there and pretty much better. It's occasionally more self indulgent, but sometimes there's a reason for that. It took me like 10 listens to realize the soundscape between two of the tracks was puerto rico, one of the most identifiable field recordings ever on PURPOSE to show where the story takes place. Granted, it's far from a straightforward story.

I do, its a good album, but it is just one tiny part of prog rock that people dwell on and never explore the genre because everyone tells them its the best so they settle for it and say its their favourite too.

>>65455490

Taste is subjective of course and I lean more towards keyboards/fusion, but I'll post a few. I'm not saying people are wrong for liking all this very easily accessible prog but they really should explore the genre a lot more.

The problem is "exploring more" doesn't necessarily mean that they'll like the stuff they explore better. And people posting well-known albums doesn't necessarily mean that they're against exploring. For example, no matter how much I listen to, my top 5 don't really change and they're super well-known in prog circles (Yes, Nektar, Camel, Caravan, Porcupine Tree). I'm sure that makes me a pleb by some standards, but that doesn't mean I don't try other things.

Never because people are so up their own asses.

Leftoverture and Point of Know Return are fantastic I've yet to listen to anything else because I'm satisfied enough

Havn't heard this, will give it a listen. Neon Pearl I only recently discovered and have been liking it for the most part. This blog is worth checking out for obscure prog/psych. I'd recommend listening before downloading though, a lot of it is really average.

If we would have to choose them by the cover art, it would definitely not be one of Yes' releases, for sure.

Is this the LYSF of the 70's?
>>
>>65461059
Kinda, but I feel like as time went on they tried to be a little too "arty" or "high-brow", even for prog. I wish I could tell you why, but I can't shake that feeling of their work post-Discipline. Islands is underrated in their discog, but it's closer to classical than rock in how it's structured. That's also a bit too artsy, but it doesn't pass the threshold based solely on the sleeze of Girls of the Road. Lizard's only good songs are the first and last.
>>
>>65463425
Are you serious? If anything that's true of their work pre-Discipline. Their later work is not high brow or an attempt to be high brow in the slightest, if anything it was them just trying to fit in with the music scenes of the 80s and 90s.
>>
>>65463548
Idk their post-discipline work lacked fun to me.

>>
>>65464026

>>65461059
Kind of. They weren't really a prog band most of the time, but they were indeed one of the best artists that came out of the prog background together with Henry Cow (actually, Henry Cow has more of a Frank Zappa and Soft Machine background, which has nothing to do with KC's background, but whatever).

Some unmentioned bands at this point in time (for all concerned I've just been told I'm replying to this specific comment). Beardfish, Haken and Dream Theater strangely, To-Mera, and, perhaps most importantly, SINKADUS.
