generic, sure. wasn't trying to be super experimental or abstract or anything. it's just an RnB song.
>>
>>65437635
the singing is just bad man
take some voice lessons or something
autotune can't fix everything
>>
>>65438175
No, I can agree. Especially the reverb on them. The reverb should kind of melt back into the whole atmosphere of the track but yours just hangs out awkwardly.
>>
>>65438065
Can't argue with that

Also question for everyone:

Since i'm drowning in PSUs and i found some of my gear can run on usb power do you have any suggestions for a multi usb psu? Talking about synths and pedals, not controllers. I'm asking cause usb can provide 5V while most of my gear needs 9V,so how can they run with such voltage?

I'm not THAT bad of a singer. And auto-tune was used extremely minimally and mainly for texture.

Btw where else you guys go to when need new content to read? I used the wikia but I think I need more.

One last question, more like a favor. Can someone break it down for me what happened
With these "I mind" and "Pussy' that James says?

How that's achievable? I really don't know what happened but I love it

Sorrry for the youtube link
>>
>>65438970
'Pussy' has a crossfaded loop point set at the tail end of the word, forwards<->backwards<->forwards<->backwards (easy to do in kontakt or manually in your audio editor), but before that, it had some degree of autotune related pitch correction, giving it a vaguely robotic sound.

I agree, sure, the guy can work on his delivery a bit, and fine tune his recording methodology, but it really wasn't bad. Especially compared to most stuff in that genre.
>>
>>65438295

Any component that needs 9v from a 5v supply could have a boost converter (DC-to-DC) within the unit to step up the voltage, but it's more likely that units that can take a 5v supply from USB only need that voltage to begin with, and the 9v from the PSU gets stepped down using a buck converter instead.

being a good musician and music making are 2 different things.

any infant with an ipad can make music

I'm okay with that
>>
>>65461304
Any infant with a 909 could make a drum beat.
Any infant with a glockenspiel can make a melody.

Making good music requires actual skill and effort, it doesn't matter what you use to make it.

Also there's now hardware designed for total retards to make crap music (hi Novation Circuit!).

what /prod/ thinks about using ready loops is it okay or are you doing a mistake by not doing the drum patterns/drops whatever yourself? thought about going there just to save time

Sure, use them if you think its the right sound for the job. But you risk sounding like some other asshole.

Have fun not learning how to do anything. I used loops for a while but most of the time the result was pretty shit

I NEED A FUCKING CROSSFADER

Help?
>>
I wanna make music for video games, what Midi controller/DAW do i need?
>>
>>65464254
what kind of video game?
If a retro-style 8bit indie game, a tracker like famitracker should do you fine.
If anything else, FL Studio is a good entry level DAW for composition.
For Midi, if you'd prefer one, any keyboard, I personally use a DX-7.

Complicated music.

Someone on /g/ recommended Alesis VI61. Is that one good?
>>
btw I don't play the piano, is it possible to learn without paying ridiculous fees to someone?
>>
>>65464814
That should be fine.
To learn, first learn the placement of the keys, then just practice scales.
Lean music theory and apply.
Do you play any other instruments?

No. I remember making a song in GarageBand for some school project by just putting in whatever "felt good" and a lot of my classmates liked it. That's basically my only experience with music.

Glad to hear it's probable to learn alone.
>>
>>65464254
just get Ableton and you won't regret it when you're good

Hmmm, shit bud. Its going to be a little harder for you. Through high school I played the flute, so I learned the basics of music from there, which allowed me to learn piano by myself easier. So you are really starting from the ground-up.

If you have the money for the Alesis, and can stand practicing regularly and studying scales, then go ahead.

So, with that all in mind, if you have money to blow, get the Alesis and Ableton. If you don't then FL Studio is a good choice.

Best of luck mate.

I wouldn't dismiss the recorder just because it's popular for beginners. It was a major orchestral instrument before it was replaced by the clarinet.

Sup boys. I'm going through all my samples and audio files just trying to make sense of my shit. My sample folder is about 12 gigs deep in unorganized chaos as of now.

My question to you all is, how do you organize your audio folder?

Do you do it by instrument, genre, or simply by the packs the samples came in? I am in desperate need of some spring cleaning and would like to know what works for /prod/ before I fuck myself over.

Use whatever controller you're comfortable with and buy the Komplete ultimate bundle. I have it and it has basically everything you need.
>>
>>65465207
I don't have all that large of a collection but I would do it by the type of sample that it was (drums, stems, pre-rendered wipes, and such) and then inside those further organize by specific instrument and genre, then finally if any groups from the same pack are still together, then group them into their packs that they came in
>>
>>65465586
Yeh I think it makes sense to do by sample type too. What really sucks is I have lots of tracked vinyl to chop up and go thru as well so this is gonna take a while. Thank you for the input
>>
I'm trying to convert an audio file to midi in reaper using reatune but it isn't really working:
I've followed every instruction from: http://wiki.cockos.com/wiki/index.php/ReaTune

but the midi track will only play the input being sent to it but won't record it even though it is armed to record

Does anyone have any help?
>>
>>65464990
It works and I'm comfortable in it, and PT11 made working with virtual instruments a lot nicer. Just upgraded to 12 and enjoying the new features.
>>

Thoughts on this? Only put a few hours in but liking my tone at this stage, just not sure if I want to add more layers to it or not. Probably going to change the bass.
I'm building it as a hip-hop/rap instrumental so I'm trying to be careful about making it too over the top
I organize as pic related, then in those folders they're grouped as source or brand (samplephonics etc) then from there in the packs they came in.

I use FL studio for the piano roll and how easy it is to use VST's with it. Is ableton just as good for that?
>>
>>65466512
bumping for this, been curious about it.
>>
>>65466512
FL Studio has god tier VST support, since it has a bridge plugin you can use 32 bit plugins from 64 bit FL and vice versa.
Ableton doesn't, so you can only use 32 bit plugins in 32 bit Ableton and 64 bit plugins in 64 bit Ableton.
>>
>>65466512
>https://clyp.it/hxf5xexh
It takes a while getting used to it and learning all the hotkeys to make it fast. IMO the Ableton piano roll is not really built for setting notes with your mouse like the FL one, except for beats maybe.
>>
>>65466180

so for the first time I'm about to work w/ a female vocalist on my bleep tunes (think a la laurel halo's quarantine, more or less, I hope) nothing too technical, just to see if I can incorporate some of her voice in my music

can you guys give me any pointers for working w/ vocals ie your basic fx setup chain? I am very familiar with ableton and I know some n00b tier stuff about vocals (de-essing, emm, I guess thats it) ofc I will be experimenting but any tips would be appreciated

Do you play piano?

Not relevant at all, just wondering.

About your track, I don't like the synth sound. It sounds too...80s cheesy if you know what I mean? Maybe try some layering?

I would start with that. Then maybe add some soft ambient drone. Then work on the drums. I like Tycho too so I know where you're trying to go.

I just started producing myself so I'm not an expert by any means.

8/10 best clyp I've heard today

It's got that old school hip hop beat vibe goin.

Maybe throw a chorus in there involving a different part of the sax sample?

Overall I like it. There was enough to keep my attention but it wasn't overwhelming.

Cool build. Change the snare drum pattern after the first few measures to keep it interesting.
