Alberto Balsalm for the feels.
Is there some kind of chord technique thing he uses to make his synth melodies so introspective and emotional?

nah richard hasn't got a clue about theory in that way, just a natural talent

That's irrelevant, any piece and be analyzed.

Certain intervals just have certain emotional resonances.
If you can find the sheet music for it and figure out the scale/chord types he's using it might give you a good idea.

well I mean it's quite possible he unconsciously relies on a specific mode or chord progression rule or whatever else, when he said "technique thing he uses" I assumed he meant y'know intentionally but w/e

just because he's a real intuitive untrained mind doesn't mean what he does can't be described by theory. I mean considering all he does is operate machinery I bet he knows what keys and buttons make which sounds and he knows what he wants to do. a lot of the time what he does is quite advanced. what was my poiint?? oh, well that of course he was 'chord techniques' and knowledge of theory, but it's all implicit and intuitive. I guess I'm getting autistic because i see people acting like theory is something you can just dismiss as not being essential when theory as a descriptive framework for what happens musically is incredible
Windowlicker is pure genius, and pretty much everything on SAW 1 is excellent.
