Why do people love this again?

I've tried listening to this twice, couldn't get into it.

Please explain to me why I am a pleb and what I am missing.
>>
It's good.
What music do you normally listen to?
>>
it just requires a lot of patience to listen to
but the build ups lead to very beautiful emotionaly touching pieces
its worth the wait
>>
A few reasons it's great:
1. It's noticeably more structured than other rock music, giving a real sense of purpose to every moment. There's always movement going on.
2. The spoken word really adds to the atmosphere of the music.
3. All in all it's really pretty symphonic rock music which you don't find a lot.

It's honestly not that great. Post-rock as a genre was created and peaked with Talk Talk.
>>
>>65373237
17:30 til the end of storm is maybe the most beautiful piece of any post rock album I've heard
>>
>>65373468
Talk Talk isn't that great kid.
They're pretty mediocre really.
>>
It requires a lot of patience but in my opinion it's well worth it. It's absolutely gorgeous, and is powerful to me in a way that is difficult to put into words.
>>
It's not good, don't worry about it.
>>
Personally, I have been brought to tears by this album. Like others have already said, it requires patience, and obviously if it's not your thing then you shouldn't waste your time. I like to go for a night drive and listen to the whole album, it has an eerie way of consuming me
>>
when i inevitably commit suicide its going to be to this album

They're better than GYBE

ok
>>
>>65373916
No they aren't, their pieces are significantly less structured, less conceptual. It's just boring mumbling over quiet music.
>>
>>65373939
Why does something being structured make it better? One could argue LYSFTH is too structured- build, crescendo, interlude- with an overuse of strings to create emotions.

The first track is p underwhelming but sleep, static and storm are perfect tracks.

The main riffs continue throughout the piece but changes with the movements, paces faster or slower and is made forceful

The first track is storm you retart
>>
Have you tried listening to it?

that's not even a typo, we legitimately can't understand what you were trying to say. Your two statements contradict each other.

Jokes on you I intentionally called you a retart

lol typical teenager argument
>well here are some thoughtful points for what makes this music good
>nuh uh

Not many people have the attention span to sit through and listen to the album. If you don't feel like dedicating the 1.5 hours to it then I guess you'd probably think it's bad.
>>
>>65374600
I don't remember seeing any thoughtful points.

If you don't like the first 6 minutes from when the snare drum comes in to when it all ends with the ambient sound then you won't get the rest.
Personally I just find all the building and layering very moving emotionally, very powerful
>>
>>65374707

>almost completely instrumental
>doesn't present itself as anything more than "doctrine of effections" emotional cresendos
>pretentious
the only thing pretentious about GYBE is the listeners expectations
>>
>>65374722
Why do you have some sort of fixation with assigning me an age?

I just don't think the album is very good. "Structure" and "movement" are just wishy-washy descriptors you can apply to nearly anything. The spoken word pieces are pretentious, and the album isn't even symphonic rock.

It's just an immensely beautiful and bittersweet record. The builds, releases, transitions, textures, and timbres are close to perfection, and all the samples and field recordings are haunting. The Coney Island interview at the start of Sleep, as well as the horns on that song, brings me close or fully to tears every time.

If you are having trouble getting into it, I recommend listening to it in bed when you're going to sleep, but pay attention to the music.
>>
>See, they don't sleep anymore on the beach.

The speech in Static fucking kills me everytime.
