Except no. While many artists using recognizable samples is totally fine and cool, the avalanches have a precedent of using samples that you've never heard before. So while SILY is all samples, none of them make you go "oh haha that song", which goes a long way towards painting a more unknown adventure. It's like breaking the fourth wall in their case to use highly recognizable stuff.
But you're correct that obscurity doesn't equal quality. It just happens to amount to a different overall experience, however.
