Well, by definition wanting to be trans is considered a mental illness under the term gender dysphoria, and by extention body disphoria as well, for those who choose to undergo crossdressing, hormones and whatnot.
People seem to get caught up and offended by the fact that it's called a mental illness. People compare it to more extreme shit like autism, or in this case wanting to kill yourself or wanting to be a traffic cone, but these are more extreme forms of mental illness and really cannot be compared to gender dysphoria.
I think some transgender people do undergo a lot of talk therapy, and a lot of the time it doesn't do anything. I believe that anyone who wants to go through extreme gender reassignment surgeries they first need doctor notes from therapists, to ensure that they indeed have a case of gejder dysphoria that cannot be cured by therapy. From what I understand is that being called a female and crossdressings are forms of surpressing the gender dysphoria, surpressing any form of hate for one selfs male features. Vice versa for FtM of course.
In my personal opinion, this should really be something to be accecpted in people who seriously feel to be transgender, as there is currently no medication to cure gender dysphoria, and therapy has very inconsistant results from person to person.
