It's the 3rd 1st of June.

Listen to your library, show off your backlog, babble about new music, tell us what you have been listening to today and what you will listen to in the following month, just let the good times flow.

Well, night of course you're not gonna enjoy. Tokyo anal dynamite is noise and it depends on what you think of it as a whole, I know some people dislike TAD in particular but like other noise records but I do not know if that's your case.
Anyway Moenai Hai is pretty much Dark Ambient 3/4 tracks, the 2nd is some pretty potent noise, but pretty cool if you're into it. If you're not it'll probably put you off. Overall it's pretty accessible as far as gero goes.
>>65333331
I've heard that Ghedalia and some other Lionel record (not particularly enjoyed) , but I'll look into the third one.

Hey s !!jjK8RvFRaoG, the most experience I have had with experimental jazz were just random tracks that someone linked on fb and it was very dissonant and I was taken back by it. About your comment on noise, I definitely think it's something I could get into, but it would have to be gradually lol.

As for experimental rock, the only experience I have had with it was just The Sound of Animals Fighting - The Ocean and the Sun and even then, it's probably baby-tier experimental if at all. But I enjoyed it.

i'm also down for some jazz album recs as well. I've checked out miles davis, oliver nelson, john coltrane, robert ward, art blakey, and duke ellington. Swing jazz is probably my favorite subgenre but i have only listened to contemporary swing (which I think is called lindy hop?). Not really a fan of electro-swing tho.

Also, pic related is great imo

Well it depends on what records by those artists you liked, as a big way of exploring jazz is by listening to people who play on albums you like already. So if you have heard Kind of Blue and like it, you can branch out to Bill Evans or Cannonball Adderley for example, or if you liked Bitches Brew, Herbie Hancock or John McLaughlin. If you like swing then it's worth to keep digging into Duke and also Count Basie for starters.
Some other important names in jazz you should also check out are: Charles Mingus, Louis Armstrong, Max Roach, Thelonious Monk, Charlie Parker, Andrew Hill and Bill Evans (as mentioned above).

"Interest and enjoyment in alphabetization, data entry, library management"

>>
>>65336474
I would change chosen direction in life to "Though engineering has been my professional pursuit in school" (I assume)

Instead of I love attending live shows, I would change it to "I frequently attend live shows and lend support to local acts." Only because you use "I have always loved" in the next paragraph

It also says under duties
"Filing, alphabetizing, maintaining and cataloging the existing collection"
>>
>>65336793
you could probably sum that up with 'i am very organised and maintain a neatly alphabetised record collection' or something similar? if you have any past experience/qualifications that relate to organisation and stuff outside of your personal collection, you might want to cite those too?
these are just suggestions obvs.
>>
>>65336908
I feel like you could reword it to fit it in a parenthesis or quick little sentence, te entire paragraph shouldn't be just that though.
>>
>>65336908
Ah that makes more sense, I was like no need to go that in depth. Uh, I think the phrasing of exact space in the shelf may be a bit awkward, perhaps say "I maintain a methodically organized collection of about 500 records all alphabetized by artist" Or however you organized them, also record collection of records is redundant.

>>65336983
prior experience with data entry or organization would be nice to mention if you have any. Like I used to work at a bookstore so I could say I take careful consideration into the location of books and merchandise to maximize efficiency for the customers.

What exactly is the job?

My first review!

Oneotrix Point Never - Garden of Delete
12 Songs; 45 Min. 2015.

6.3
Favourite Tracks: Sticky Drama, No Good, Lift, Animals
Least Favourite Tracks: Mutant Standard, Child of Rage, Freaky Eyes, SDFK

Garden of Delete is a somewhat interesting album. It's major flaw is that you can only listen to Sticky Drama and then you've basically heard half of the album. Unfortunately, it's the better half of the album. Songs such as No Good and Animal and are very similar sonically to Sticky Drama, and honestly if you had four track EP that was just Animals, Lift, Sticky Drama, and No Good in that order, you’d have a much better and very very consistent release.

This album also tries the opposite and has some random tracks that honestly just feel like filler. I love my eccojams as much as the next guy but ECCOJAMC1 just does not fit the sound that this album is fighting so hard to keep to the rest of the time, and SDFK is a whopping one minute and twenty seven seconds of ambient that adds an intense drum line.

SDFK is perhaps the best example of how this album falls flat. Usually when people describe ADHD Music, it’s mostly something highly energetic or very catchy (grimemes, etc.). Garden of Delete on the other hand, takes on a much more literal definition of ADHD music. Every minute seems like a different track because it changes in order for it to stay interesting. Some tracks like Ezra, the eight minute long Mutant Standard and Freaky Eyes are extreme victims and feel almost unstable. The frequent switches sound rushed, therefore so does the album.

Garden of Delete sounds like if Arca wasn’t gay. Garden of Delete sounds like if Burial was forbidden from making Future Garage and only allowed to use default FL Studio. Garden of Delete sounds like a vaporwave producer’s attempt to make an album with a meaning deeper than just Summer is Rad, Corporatism is Grody. And that is exactly what it is.

i feel like GoD is a stepping stone album for Daniel. If he is able to clean up this style and mix it with the vibes he had going on R+7, he will likely release another 10/10.

what is UP my guys I got Bromst by Dan Deacon today. It's a nice, bouncy, energetic album that goes at the speed of light and switches stuff up at a moment's notice. My main problem with it is that it's kinda becomes sensory overload and its way too long (over an hour) and some of the tracks have very short attention spans which just makes them sound all over the place. This is basically meant to be a first impression and not a final decision but I'll eventually go back to it a couple more times

>>65337604
is GoD the first OPN album you've heard? I've been a fan of Dan for a few years and I thought it was a great pivot from R+7. Plus if you heard his RSD eps you had a basic idea of where he was going with his sound before GoD

I've been feeling like shit recently so I decided to give some of my favourite albums a couple more listens . I want to write reviews but I don't even know where to start.
Simply put
>dystopian disco
>great narrative line
>turns catchy beats into bleak and sickening manipulative rythms
>makes you want to dance and hate yourself for doing it after you realize how wrong everything is (see Marketing that tricks you into finding the song catchy only to see later on how everything is calculated to manipulate a fictionnal mass that you thus joined by your own accord)
>postmodern fable on humanity losing itself in its own search for a more comfortable life
>rly gud
Maybe I'll write something fo my RYM, I dunno.
But this is good.

This has sick ass hype vibe and absent of everything that I hated from Manapool. Cheerful, bright, and colorful this is a surprisingly a great jam. Also has a solid Dreamcast aesthetic throughout the album that gives me the biggest grin.

R.L. Burnside - First Recordings (2003)
>blues, delta blues, hill country blues

I listened to Burnside's Too Bad Jim a couple years ago, and I wasn't too into it. I relistened to some of it today before checking this out, and it's still just kinda boring, too clean blues music. But it's obvious that the talent (mainly in the guitar work and the singing) was there, and that talent definitely shines on these early recordings. Certainly not the best blues music has to offer, and there's not really anything outstanding here, but still very nice. The guitar playing is especially wonderful. I wanna check out An Ass Pocket of Whiskey soon, mainly to see if he really did sell out /that/ bad.

3.0+

Blondie - Blondie (1976)
>new wave

This is the album that RYM designates as the earliest new wave record, and it definitely kinda exemplifies the characteristics of new wave I don't like, mainly the extreme poppiness. Everything here /should/ work, Harry's voice is wonderful and the instrumental work is cool (THOSE KEYBOARDS), but the songwriting here is just lame. A lot of it is actually shockingly like a discount Sparks at times, and that doesn't fare well because really only Sparks can do Sparks (well, The Quick can do Sparks too). Okay, "Kung Fu Girls" is actually a really cool pastiche of the Sparks style, and "X Offender" is obviously a great song, but other than that the band really isn't on their top songwriting game. Enjoyable, but just fairly MOR. I'll check out Parallel Lines soon, cos that has "Heart of Glass" which is the best thing ever.

>rec'd by Benji
My first foray into death metal, and wew this is exhausting. At just over an hour it's a bit too long, and it took me a couple tries to get through it all. If they had cut this down to 40 minutes I would love it even more. Certainly interesting, but I can only take so much sometimes. Also, the vocals can straight up suck, like on "The Carnal State". The fuck is he doing? Still really nice, I typically don't metal all too often, but maybe that should change?

deciding to update the free form chart with my first explorations into Rodriguez's Post Internet Future list

Bruce Smear- Chlorine
damn this is crazy, almost kinda schizophrenic at how fast paced it moves and shifts between synths and vocal samples, kind of like a vaporwave on speedballs. This comes with it also being fun as hell, super almost dancy, but not quite with how odd it sounds. Like Rod says himself, I feel like I'm drowning in textures in a really wonderful way. The only negative side is that it's density is also somewhat headache inducing, so I have to deduct a bit for that.

3.5/5

813- Body Race
It's like mainstream pop, but bastardized to it's most extreme limits
its also very ""fun"" and also kinda ""annoying"" but this isn't really to similar to Chlorine
it's mostly ok

I think I was a bit too far up my own ass with my reviews yesterday, so I tried to slim them down a bit today.

>Joe Bataan - Subway Joe
Super funky latin music that manages to emphatically and perfectly convey what I imagine to be the spirit of New York City. The first track is so damn good, so each subsequent track feels like a bit of a let down, but a few songs like “Special Girl” and the closer, “Magic Rose” come close.

Interestingly some tracks definitely have a much stronger salsa influence, while others are definitely favor a R&B and (get this) Doo-wop influence. I tend to prefer the R&B-based tracks, and actually not just because they’re in English.

I am definitely head over heals in love with the fuzzy blaring horns featured on every track though, and they alone should be reason enough to give this thing a listen. At least listen to the first track. Seriously.
>7/10

>Attwenger - Sun
Attwenger preside over a very intriguing intersection of various normally disparate genres: balkan brass, alpine folk music, hip hop, punk rock, and even modern classical. Now this sounds like it should be either a recipe for genius or disaster, but somewhat unfortunately it just lands somewhere in between.

There are incredible highs on this album for sure. The opener, “Muamen,” features a fractured drum beat, throat singing, accordion playing, low droning tones, and some very nice-sounding rapping in Austrian. The next track is just as cool, featuring a nearly spoken rap over an extremely minimal drum machine beat, some super subtle drones, and a really cool-sounding electric bass.

Subsequent songs however, much more prominently feature the balkan brass and folk influences, and really border on kitschy, with an extreme overabundance of accordion jams.

The next huge highlight is the last three tracks of the album, where a beautiful sound collage piece welds the third to last track, Mei Bua, to the album closer. A point of interest in itself, Mei Bua is a nearly 11 minute long jam rap featuring none other than Fred Frith on guitar doing some sweet interplay with the accordion, and impressively working well within the context of the swaggering drum beat.

Overall, some very cool ideas on here, but many of the tracks are pretty kitschy and the length certainly holds it back. I enjoyed the few particularly experimental tracks immensely.
>6/10

>Ida Widawati - Udan Mas
I was honestly expecting to love this, seeing all the glowing reviews and ratings on RYM, but I was left feeling distinctly bored and unfulfilled after sitting through the whole thing. Admittedly it was shockingly beautiful at first listen, but I got bored after maybe 10 minutes of the same deal, forget the whole 76 minutes. Also, this might just be my copy, but the mixing could be super wonky at times.

Highlights were the first few tracks, particularly the first two, “Jeruk Manis” and “Jipang Karaton.” By the end I was actually much more enjoying the tracks without the female lead vocalist, although I think she was supposed to be the main draw of many of the tracks.

And last but not least...

>Jeff Mills - Waveform Transmissions Vol. 1
As much as I despise the word “bangers,” if it were to best describe anything, it would be these tracks. Every track is another dark, heavy, industrial, noisy slab of Detroit Techno perfection. This is what you should hear in your head when you think of techno. Nay, this is what you should dream of when you think of techno.

I already recognize a bunch of the tracks here from his classic Tokyo DJ set which I love to death, and it’s great to hear them in all their intricately and abrasively textured glory for the first time.

If you’re looking for a good in to techno, check out this album, particularly the most upbeat track on the album, “Changes of Life,” which utilizes a very catchy little keyboard loop to great effect over a super rubbery bass throb. Also be sure to check out “The Hacker” to see where Death Grips no doubt gets their schtick from. My only gripe is that none of the tracks are very long. The longest track here doesn't even reach the 6 minute mark, and the short track length can kind of squash the development of each song a bit.

Looking forward to Waveform Transmissions Vol. 3.

>Jandek - Not Hunting For Meaning

What is he laughing at?

3 tracks on the CD, last one is 30 minutes long. The total length is perfectly acceptable.

So Sterling not only adds pace to Front Porch Shimmy but an almost “normal” blues riff! Almost is still the key word, but that is a step up! I can even groove to this! The track is about this guy sitting on the front porch and feeling great. He sounds distressed but joyful in a way…

Stay Me Here is a track I could relate at some point of my life, where this guy is satisfied with just staying at home for the rest of his life cause it is comfy. The vocal delivery is pretty funny because Smith takes his howling and makes it even more prolonged and high-pitched. The guitar, once again, seems to have a proper strumming and note pattern.

Closing off this 3 track album is a whale titled Silent Wander (ha). I think I mentioned in one of my spoken word trilogy reviews that he profits from these longer tracks where he just lets all his thoughts stream and this is the case as usual. The guitar playing sounds like it came from the earlier section of this post-worthless recluse era. Just slow strums of his detached strings and quiet howling. There are moments where you can hear a metronome playing in the back. In terms of the content, what starts as a walk away from all the things that bothered him turns into another fruitful discussion on what life is all about. There’s 30 minutes of this.

30 minutes of comfort for me. I still sometimes take a look at things like this from the side and it just seems utterly mad. I mean on the first look all I’m listening to is a detuned guy moaning about simple (and yet so surreal) things to a detuned guitar for half an hour. It hits so close home though and at times this is the only thing I need.

Anyways, it is a short album that has the rep shouting and rambling with 2 different guitar styles. Good album.

Hopefully this is just the red version because I've been trying to get SILY on wax for nearly four years

>>65346560
fuck

what's with all of these anon's tonight?

>>65346556
I'm not worried about the rapping, especially since a lot of the way they use samples emmulate rapping in a way on SILY, but yeah I hope they all bring their A-game.

I've never even heard SILY all the way through (fixing that wednesday) and even I can tell that... you've had 16 years and this is all you've got? Why does it sound like you sampled a whole four records? Why does DOOM still refuse to give out more than a few bars every ~six months? Why Danny Brown? Feels like they only came back to make a pop album and get $$$, which makes me sad
>>
>>65346799
Okay honestly after all the shit I've read about viper the dude is almost too sad to make fun of. It's kind of like a Chris-Chan situation. It's funny for a bit but once you learn they're just mentally in a self-destructive state it stops becoming fun :/

>>65346898
Yeah. Honestly, the hotline song, compressed and 10x shorter was much more satisfying imo.

I mean I'll listen to it, it'd do well at a party, but not the same sort of party SILY apparently is
>>
>>65347067
Make sure the version of SILY you have it the one with all the samples.

Just to be safe get the "Zomba Promo" version, which even has a pretty flawlessly integrated extra track.
>>
>>65346898
:\
Yeah. Personally the amount of features makes me think that this might be a pretty weak album. I feel like artists have to go out of their way to include features and just design songs around the people they're working with. Fucks up the flow of an album.
>>
>>65347131
How can you check if it has all the samples?
>>
>>65347202
"Radio" should start with a skit, which was taken out in the original.

One of the reasons new music has taken so long is because of legal issues with labels, which is also why more than half the band has left.

One of the reasons I've never really gotten SILY on vinyl is because they're all either bad pressings or have about half the pressings. I'd easly drop triple digits of a wax version of the Zomba version, though.

Here's a mega to the Zomba version btw: https://mega.nz/#F!z9VjyA7D!wCQux7M8p3QQ3GLFI9EH0w
>>
>>65347346
just to confirm I have the right one, the Radio skit in "johnny open up!" right?

listened to frankie sinatra as well
i mean danny brown and doom are great and so are the avalanches
but this isn't great, it's just enjoyable
new avalanches record destined to be this year's compton?
>>
>>65347346
>>65347202
The amount of samples and what was taken out differs across its different international versions, but the Zomba one is pretty universally accepted as the best since none of it was taken out + it has the extra track which is just as good as the rest of the album.

>>65347390
yep! Some versions just skip that and go right into "RADIO"

see YouTube version, which is sadly the one most people have heard (around 6:38, also the transition isn't as smooth from song to song due to samples being removed) https://youtu.be/gRM1S6Jno8A?t=6m38s
>>
>>65347131
¿¿What's the extra track??
>>
>>65347522
In the Zomba Promo version it's the third track "With My Baby." Honestly makes the album a lot smother. I'd suggest listening to it all the way through to then either here >>65347346 or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJ-Hwc_m2Fc
>>
>>65347651
Even subtle, seemingly unimportant changes only exist in this version, for example the "springtime" sample at the 11 second mark. Makes me wonder if there are even more subtle differences between the two. I need to listen to both versions back to back and see what else I've missed.

When there's samples from over 3500 albums, there has to be thousands of subtle changes I haven't even noticed.
>>
>>65347651
This track is dope. I think I actually found it on youtube a while back. I'll have to listen to the Zomba version.
>>
>>65347723
Oh shit you're right.
Alright, you've convinced me to scrap my copy and get the Zomba Promo
>>
>>65347865
:D

There's definitely a few more individual samples in there I can't remember off the top of my head, and I'm not quite sure if there's any more than that, but that's what I love about SILY. There's new surprises literally every time I listen to it.

I get why people don't like it at all, but I'm glad I like it as much as I do, because it's a really fun album to come back to every now and again.
>>
Morning, /daily/. I'm listening to Steely Dan's The Royal Scam for my calendar now. Enjoying the stuff so far.

Avalanches again then finishing Ween early demos when I get bored of that.

I am spending the day of working overtime productively by listening to Jandek play piano for 9 hours while generating reports. I got to get into the vibe of the album before I get to reviewing it.
>>
>>65348211
I am not going to listen to the new Avalanches single yet desu. I don't wanna spoil the album for myself ya know.
>>65348277
>Jandek play piano for 9 hours
I don't know if I could handle that. Maybe I should just try listening to Ready for the House before I get to any other Jandek.

rhapsody in blue (best fantasia short), may listen to the version of SILY fish linked after i get the next tourney match done

No idea. Maybe to spice some of his covers up? I can imagine having a couple of photos with amazing scenarios in mind that don't work out until you actually edit them.

Steely Dan - The Royal Scam

Before I start, I'd like to look back to the days when I just started out with this trip and began posting yacht & soft rock generals. Ah, those were good times. However, I was never actually that deep into the genre and have sadly not listened to every Steely Dan album. This is my 2nd Steely Dan album (first one is the GOAT Aja) and it was a very good one.

As expected, this was solid, dense yacht rock. Funky, bluesy and jazzy stuff. What's not to like? While I wouldn't call this as polished or well made as Aja but it's fine stuff.

Now I would like to evaluate some of the tracks that stood out for me. The first track "Kid Charlemagne" is in my opinion the best track on the album. It's an excellent opener that showcases some wonderful songwriting and funkiness from the Dan boys. The parts of this track with vocal harmonization were just incredible moments. DID YOU FEEEEEEL LIKE JESUS? Brilliance.

The second track "The Caves of Altamira" is not as good as the first but it is still a very well made track. It's less funky and more on the jazz side (albeit a little bit smooth) which is still alright with me. Once again the vocal harmonization here is delicious stuff.

Now I'll jump a bit to the fifth track "The Fez". Very funky track. Good piano, more great harmonization, those keyboards. Spicy.

Again, I'll jump and talk about the seventh track "Haitian Divorce". This track surprised me a bit. Maybe I'm just stupid but it sounded like they were fusing in a bit of a reggae influence here among other genres which was very interesting. Also, sick vibraphones and once again harmonization (this doesn't even need to be said anymore).

The rest of the album, was definitely good but I didn't like it as much as these few tracks. Overall, very good stuff.

To sum things up:
Le good jazze funke wew. Nice harmonies btw. 4/5.

I'm trying to understand /mu/'s obsession with Animal Collective. STGSTV is pretty good, but this is just awful.
It's like musical wankery (which I can usual like), with no substance or direction whatsoever.
>>
Definitely a weird question, but I remember an album being posted a lot here, but only the artwork. It was a hand-drawn lightning bolt going through a rainbow, I think? Any idea what that one is?
>>
>>65350359
Tbh I think their early shit is way overrated on mu. ST through CHz is where it's at. Grounded but interesting experimental pop. I think one of the reasons they're popular here is because they've done some decent pop, unusual indie, and experimental wankery, so as someone's tastes change they can continue listening to AnCo.

>>65350366
No idea. This image was the first thing that came to mind. Maybe the Katamari Damacy soundtrack? Or something by Lightning Bolt? Velocity: Design: Comfort? Sorry I couldn't be more helpful :P
>>
>>65350536
No worries -- I'm kicking myself for not remembering. I'm weird in the sense that often times the album art will be what convinces me to listen. Should have jotted it down.
>>
>>65350536
I guess I'll continue to listen to their discography then. I've always like the track My Girls, so I'm not closed off to the idea of liking them.
>>
>>65350366
Shit, I think I know which one that is, but can't remember its name or anything
I'll skim through my library when I get home in the evening
