Friendly reminder: the kiddies who post in /gg/ threads have nearly ***zero*** experience concerning guitar. Playing, repair, new player recommendations, etc. The average age in these threads is around early 20s: green as shit grass.

If you have an actual question this is probably one of the most uninformed & least knowledgeable places you could ever expect a proper answer to come from.

Be weary of any advice given here as it's amateur & perfunctory at best.

Have a nice day.

Two things i dont get are why are there two tone switches and what does that switch do?
>>
>>65323243
Only if you get a real Gibson tonedildo.

Epiphone Les Paul Standard PlusTop Pro or Ibanez FR365? Looking for something with the best build quality
>>
>>65324797
I'd get the Ibanez.
>>
How do I store a guitar properly? My first guitar just sits in a stand at the moment, but since I don't play it very much I thought of storing it in its case. Should I take the strings of or will this warp the neck? New strings then pack it away?

Also how much would you demand when selling a near mint guitar? Bought an Ibanez a few months ago but thinking about selling it. 450 Euros was the original price, I thought of 400-450 Euros, case included.
>>
>>65324899
You can just have it sit on a stand; in large bands they just put them on a rack that goes in a large flight case until they need to be used.
>>
>>65324999

what If I need the space? I went on a massive GAS spree and now I own 4 guitars. I want to sell one, store one away (maybe to give it to someone worthy later on) and just use 2 guitars for my own playing.

>>
>>65324797
They're completely different, the LP is 24.75" with a rounder radius while the FR is 25.5" with a flatter radius.
I'd get the Ibanez since I prefer the neck and they have a single coil in the neck instead of a second humbucker, which imo is not that great.
>>
>>65325126
Succ :D
>>
>>65325028
Having them in their cases should be alright for storage provided no moisture gets in
>>
>>65324547

guys i need help! i have a 27 inch scale length 8 string tuned to drop E (EBEADGBe) but the lower low E string is too flabby and quiet. what string gauge should i get for it? current is a .64
>>
>>65325659
If you're tuning to E, you need something really heavy, basses use .100 even though they have a longer scale lenght (but they have more tension on the strings).
I wouldn't go under .80, that gives you 14.7lbs of tension, which is a 2 lbs less than a .46 string tuned to E on a 25.5" scale lenght.
>>
>>65325794
.46 tuned to a regular E, not a bass's E by the way.
>>
>>65325794
is .80 14.7? what would you recomend personally?
>>
>>65325835
According to the string tension calculator in the op, yes, .80 is 14.7lbs of tension, it might not be exactly that depending on which string brand you're using (.46 for d'addario prosteels is apparently 16.22 and not 17.5 for exemple). But yes, .80 should be fine.
I can't recommend anything based on what I've played, because I don't own 8 strings, but I've heard people recommending buying a pack of 6 strings and two single bass strings.
There's no absolute, if you think .80 is too much, go down, if you think it's not enough, go up.
>>
>>65325877
thanks friend! now i go to the guitar store
>>
>>65321853
I like it. Except the volvo hubcap. I have an old chevy poverty hubcap. I think it would be more appropriate.
>>
>>65325659
A 90 gauge will give you 17.4lbs. Whether that'll fit through your bridge and tuner is another question.

JUST
>>
>>65324547

You paid $275 for that? Dude, they're $200 new.
>>
>>65325460
depends. if it's just truss rod, stright height, and pickup height then it shouldn't cost more than $20-$30. if the guy has to start sanding and filing nut sluts/nut height, fixing electronics, and stuff like that on top of a typical setup i'd say $50-$75 is a fair price

i wouldn't trust guitar center with my shittiest guitar

I have an acoustic b100 combo and it has a jack for an extension speaker. But the manual says that the extension runs in series with the internal speaker so wouldn't connecting an extra cab make my rig quieter?

Please help

Threadly reminder to all Canada friends

On June 11th, long & mcquade is offering a free full setup with a purchase of any set of strings.
It's a $65+ value, one per customer.

Check out their site to see what it includes because it's a fucking ridiculous offer.
>>
Anyone else think that cubes sound absolutely terrible for the price?
>>
>>65328299
They're pretty cheap so no.

The clean channels alright
>>
>>65328041
On the contrary, these look really nice to me compared to seymour duncan. The potting is not excessive, the molded holes for the mounting screws themselves are very neat, and the bobbins are neatly shaped(on the top). Importantly, there's plenty of space for the pickup wires and no excess solder. The screws themselves are high quality, and look very corrosion resistant. In other words they're shiny as fuck.
>>
>>65328108
Looks like it would take a long time to lower the bridge enough, maybe just shim the neck, could be a lot faster.
>>
>>65328299
Nah, they are good for the price.

not all employers are as stupid as you think
>>
>>65331248
Talking from experience with basses, virtually all decent active basses have an active passive switch, with passive being true bypass and turning the treble control into a traditional tone knob. Active basses are awesome and most of them basically sound like a passive one with everything flat and they even adjust the volume of the preamp to be the same as the passive mode while the EQ is flat. Also, an active bass doesn't replace your amp EQ, it just compliments it or makes it easy to switch on the fly. I love them and properly done they have 0 disadvantages. I wish guitarists had similar options that don't cost ridiculous amounts of money because they're boutique stuff.
>>
>>65331395
If they actually do find out the consequences can be pretty bad depending on where you live. Just be aware what the penalties for fraud are in your area if you want to do something like this.

Also, can we stop the off topic blogging? Nobody wants to hear about anon's job hunt.
>>
>>65331248
You're going to modulate your signal down the line anyway, and you could always put a bypass switch. "Character" is a myth anyway, with enough work you can always dial in the tone you want, or a tone almost exactly as close.

No. You're adding more speaker surface area so you'll be louder. Just make sure you're matching watts/ohms or you can blow your extension cab. I have the B450 MkII and it's lit.

Doesn't have such a wide variety of tones. A Strat would be more suitable if you want to play a variety of genres.

That's fine for solo practice, but like I said; it depends on what you want from a new amp. Do you want to gig with it or just use it as a practice amp?

>>
>>65333652
Teles are pretty right wing not for cucks like you, an SG is a better fit for you

Also I doubt youd like not having a humbucker
>>
>>65333383
I dunno about the micro cubes spevifically but if you can't get a good tone out of a cube you need to try harder.

Anyways, if you want a versatile guitar, you can't buy into the "a great tone you can use anywhere" meme. You need a variety of tones. Get a guitar with more than one kind of pickup. Or, just get something with humbuckers and throw a p-rail in there. You get the idea. More options is best.
