I listened to some of this album expecting something akin to early Stereolab (they're both post rock right?) but what I've listened to doesn't really seem that great so far. Is there something I'm not getting out of it or something similar to it?

They are good at using repetition and layering in their music to drown out the listener and put them in a sort of a trance. So be patient with Swans and try to listen to them distraction free

Stereolab's way too poppy to be post-rock. Something like this requires patience/attention while Stereolab doesn't really require much of either.

Ya but TRNBWA/Mars Audiac Quintet are better than To Be Kind. Why are the vocals on the first tracks emotionless? as in even seeming to lack apathy?

Stereolab is most definitely post rock
The issue here is post rock is such a fucking wide term that you really have no idea what you're getting into without a comparrison to another post-rock band

I just don't see how people could fail to find emotion in Gira's voice unless they had a condition that limited their emotional understanding of others.
Comparing Swans to Stereolab is like comparing apples to quinces. Go listen to Filth: https://youtu.be/RFR_eBXK3p0

I've never been able to "get" swans either. SFTB was the only album I REALLY enjoyed, but even then theres songs like yum yab killers and a bunch of forgettable drone tracks near the end
